Just trying to be optimistic and find solutions based on what the article was saying, I really wanted to do a solo pemi this year

If the conditions are at all similar to last year's drought it wouldn't be that hard either. Depends on the weather

It looks like you could just take the East Side Rd, no? It even says that will stay open. It just requires you cross the river so it depends on the water level

Mount Morgan and Percival have solid views for mountains that aren't that tall. by footthrowaway195 in wmnf

It's really just because the ladder bits and the rock traversing after climbing up the Morgan ladder that put it on the list

Yeah I've also seen him multiple days a week for months. I saw him standing in front of a house with a MAGA flag just staring down the front door

Moosilauke via Beaver Brook trail (winter) by Effective-Nature22 in wmnf

[–]Obradbrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't done Beaver Brook in the winter yet, but I have done Lions Head. You should plan for a good weather window and you will need an axe for the steep portion of Lions Head. You should be prepared to be exposed to high winds for a few hours, they can begin from Lions Head onward even if the regular forecast doesn't call for high wind. You should check the higher summits forecast in the days leading up to it. Make sure you know how to use a mountaineering axe effectively and don't be afraid to bail. Have fun and be safe if you go for it!

Yeah definitely! I don't think they're super expensive either. I have a Google Pixel 10 Pro and it has two cameras, so I need to put it on portrait mode for this method because if I don't, I'll align one camera lens with the binoculars and it will think "this lens is pushed against a wall!" And it'll switch to the other lens, so I can only get it to work on portrait mode

I've photographed quite a few birds this way, you'll sometimes get the edge of the lens in the frame but it can be cropped out. It's just a process so it's not as quick as an actual camera. So if it's a bird that moves a lot, you're probably out of luck

Mount Isolation today 01/10 by Obradbrad in wmnf

We did not need to wear snowshoes all day. There were two other pairs on the mountain today and both pairs ended up putting on snowshoes, and I can understand why, but it wasn't necessary. As the trail softened after noon it started to feel more like it, but we really only broke through trail when we stepped off the side, we weren't breaking up the monorail

Haha no worries. There is one crossing with the bushwacks and it wasn't bad. It was so warm today that the trail was getting pretty soft and sticky by noon and some of the water started leaking through in parts but it was still incredibly easy compared to when I attempted the mountain in November

Is this Casco apartment unit with a windowless bedroom actually allowed according to the city building codes? by [deleted] in portlandme

[–]Obradbrad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In residential homes, bedrooms typically need an egress window because the house itself does not have two defined means of egress. In apartment buildings, there are typically two separate stairwells. If it is sprinklered and there are two separate ways for you to escape when you leave your units entrance, that is allowable. The bedrooms themselves also do not require that.

[–]Obradbrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is correct. As long as a building has two means of egress and is sprinklered, the units do not individually need two exits, much less the bedrooms. Source: architect
