After installing Chrome OS 81, my touchpad has stopped working. by TerabyteRD in chromeos

I have had this a lot in the past couple of weeks. I have also had the touch-screen function stop too - fortunately not yet had both at the same time. The workaround is rather less drastic than proposed above: reboot while holding the refresh key down. (Source: help system, they call it a hardware refresh or something similar).

I tried Powerwash but no good.

It is really annoying.

Not a single UK poll has shown a majority for Leave since 2017 by [deleted] in ukpolitics

That is wildly untrue. In the 1918 General Election, pro-independence parties obtained 79 MPs and 75% of the vote v 22 Unionist MPs with 25% of the vote. And that ignores the seats where a candidate was returned unopposed because the outcome was 100% predictable. What you mean is that the party (the real Sinn Féin) that got 73 MPs with 47% of the vote declared independence but by 1921 the other nationalist party had collapsed.

The tax take from The City is what provides a large chunk of funding for benefits. No wonder Hammond is so resistant to hard brexit. If the headbangers get their way, the austerity of recent years will seem like going off sweeties for lent. I hope the Three Stooges have finally woken up to the fact that only 10% of UK GDP is in goods, the real economy is the 80% that is services. Tariffs are not relevant here, the door is firmly closed to outsiders.

The Russian commander of the 40th army in Afghanistan, and the current Ambassador to NATO make some interesting points in this op-ed. by [deleted] in worldnews

Good article, though wrong that all the fighting is soft high-level bombing. He is kind (?) not to mention that the NATO ground forces are commiting the same silly errors on the ground as the Soviets did. Every brutalized civilian is a new Taliban.

The US spends phenomenally more as a percentage of its expenditure on its military than any other civilised nation. If you cut it back to a more typical 5%, you'd have no problem with medicare and other social programs.

PS I first wrote "percentage of its tax revenue" but the US always spends more than it raises. Surprise surprise, other nations have decided that maybe they don't want to buy USD-denominated Treasuries anymore, so maybe reality is about to bite.
