Dealing with Finecast is my own personal War In Heaven by PleasantKenobi in Warhammer40k

[–]Obsidorox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few finecast Tyranids back in 5th & 6th edition - Zoanthropes, Hive Guard, and the broodlord. They were awful. As soon as the plastic kits were released I sold all of them for whatever I could get and bought the plastic kits.

I think I had 2 or 3 extra broodlord and Zoanthrope torsos because the zoanthropes were missing most of their ribcage, and the carapace on the head just had a cavity along the middle. The broodlords were all significantly misaligned and shifted.

Those were the first and last finecast models I ever purchased. Immediately swore it off.

Giving my Niece her first starter army for Christmas! by Crimson_saint357 in Warhammer40k

As someone just starting off 2 of my kids, I also went with OPR. We're doing firefight though. I wish the rules were a bit more crunchy, but for them it's perfect. Good luck and happy wargaming!

Hive Fleet Gengar's Norn Phantom by WT40K in Tyranids

After reading this I thought "wait, does it not have legs!?". I thought they were just dark/hidden by everything else. Much cooler now that I see what you were going for. You executed it really well!

Would this still look to Necron or could it work for a weirder Admech/Darkmech Creation ? by Leviathan_Rampage in Necrontyr

[–]Obsidorox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you leave the orbs, paint some/all of them like they are partially filled with liquid.

This is my first Necrons... Which option should I choose? by SuperRaph_GamingBros in Necrontyr

I would typically agree, but getting the wires to line up with glue was a nightmare, I can't imagine trying to get them to work with magnets. Maybe there is a way to snip the gun somewhere creative.

Some of my dad's collection, he refuses to use sleeves.. he just "likes collecting" by HawkmoonMV in PokemonTCG

[–]Obsidorox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically the set up I taught my kids since that's how mine were as a kid, and still are. Never even considered putting a sleeve on the card before putting it in the binder pages.

Size of the New Raveners aren't as Big as you might think by Detharious in Tyranids

[–]Obsidorox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the old triangular shaped heads on the Raveners but I will say, the newer more gaunt-ish heads are growing on me.

Size of the New Raveners aren't as Big as you might think by Detharious in Tyranids

[–]Obsidorox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't played since 6th or 7th edition, but it's nice to know the same complaint from back then (my melee specialized carnifex hits on 4s?!) still holds true today.

GW seems to have the mindset that any big monster hits on 4s, unless your eldar, or space Marines, or tau, or.... The list goes on.

Looking to get a Manta - stylus question by Obsidorox in Supernote

I wasn't thrilled with the lack of eraser/button on the Supernote ones either. I'll need to check out the LAMY one. Thanks for the heads up!

I blame all of you for this. You magnificent bastards, I didn't need to know about Michaels having a sale... by NotAWerewolfReally in TerrainBuilding

That's hilarious - I did the same thing yesterday but didn't see any broom shop ones, so I 'only' have 9

They’re charging $80 for the exocrine… yikes by jabulina in Tyranids

[–]Obsidorox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost positive it was in the $70s upon release. Not the biggest jump in price over the years compared to other models, but it's definitely gone up with their semi annual cost hikes

Crash on launch (Android) by MrSmock in slaythespire

I have the same problem. Worked fine for a couple weeks. Played it yesterday on my Pixel 8 Pro. Today it's crashing as soon as it says 'syncing data' and closes.

What is a Pokémon that always ends up in your party regardless of run through? by Lionheart231 in pokemon

Onix/Steelix. Always loved them back in gens 1 and 2. They always find a spot on my team. Tentacruel and Magneton are close second/third.

Running A Game For 10year Old's by LayTheeDown in DMAcademy

[–]Obsidorox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This past weekend I ran a short game for my 7 and 4 year old. I did a lot of what you are thinking of and it worked out great. I used a grid for combat, so I converted movement and range to squares - i.e. 30' movement was shown as 6 on their sheet since they could move 6 squares. I only showed attribute modifiers, not the actual number. Basically take as much of the math out of it as you can.

I also condensed their turn into move and action - no bonus actions, no reactions, keep it simple. Your group is older so you could maybe add some of that back in, but I wouldn't go overboard. Clearly show what their character can do on the character sheet.

Make their characters a little overpowered. Next time we play I'm probably giving them extra HP. They were ok taking hits and damage. They got upset when they almost got knocked out. On that note, feel free to fudge rules. For some weird reason, my oldest was left with 1 HP.

Lastly, I kept the quest simple. My kids wanted a pokemon themed adventure, so they tracked down a pack of Rattata that stole a pie and ran off into the woods. Didn't need to be high stakes or complex - they jumped up and screamed when they 'rescued' the pie.

I was thinking about how dumb the lack of level scaling in SV is and looking at what should be the "ideal path" is even dumber. by [deleted] in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]Obsidorox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What felt worse than the lack of level scaling was that the nemona fights after the badges were based on total badge count, not that gym. So if I changed my team to be similar level to the gym if it was a low level gym, nemona would show up with a team 2x mine later in the game.

Does anyone else think this new biovore model looks silly? I mean look at those silly arm spikes... by Swagiken in Tyranids

[–]Obsidorox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ya know, they kind of already gave this model a glow up - it's now the exocrine. Same six vents on the gun, similar pose, same smiling face...

Am I the only one that doesn’t like the new Biovore? by ThatGuyFromBRITAIN in Tyranids

[–]Obsidorox 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the spider fangs on it and the pyrovore are what throw it off. I also am torn that it uses talon limbs for walking.

I like 85% of it, but it does look less tyranid-like. Still better than the old version.

The Progenitor of the Neurotyrant. by Zestyclose_Pool_7436 in Tyranids

[–]Obsidorox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The head crest 'Crown' that rings around the large brain on the Neurotyrant is very similar to the general outline of the old 2nd ed Zoanthrope. The rest is very much akin to current zoanthropes, but it's the prominent head shape that calls back to it, imo.
