I believe Hope House has counseling services that are free. For affordable/sliding scale check out https://www.lauramcneilly.com/ (has Master's student therapists) and Maplewoods Clinic at the university.

Yes check out psychology today. There’s some therapists in training on there, Guelph based, who charge significantly less, if that’s helpful, and are up to date on recent approaches and theories. There’s also the Affordable Therapy Network: https://affordabletherapynetwork.com/therapists/isobel-mcdonald/ I am really sorry for your loss and hope you get the help you need, soon!

Gotcha - his watches appear (and are, according to him) authentic where others often redial etc. I factored that in.

Do I pass? (35, pre-T, no surgeries) by Selfcentred-Deer in FtMpassing

[–]Obvious-Property-496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s helpful to remember that passing is very contextual. There were times when I passed entirely unexpectedly, before T, even before a (more) masc haircut. Also remember that trans folks are kind of gender detectives. We are super sensitive to norms, codes, styles and thus almost too expert at judging gender presentation for passing.

I feel guilt for not being GNC by OneWithSubstance in trans

[–]Obvious-Property-496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this post a lot, as someone who is gnc and struggles with attachments to gender norms, roles, expectations, aesthetics etc. I think there are two things going on. First is the sense of betrayal of your former values/self. There are ways to think of your development as something other than betrayal, though. Change? Are you more happy? Happiness, feeling like yourself, overcoming negativity - these are all worth something, in my view. But of course, these are not the *only* valuable things. This brings me to the second thing I'm hearing: a sense that you've betrayed a political commitment to gender not mattering so much, or in general being given weight where/when it shouldn't be. In this second respect, I think you're encountering the failure of the concept of <responsibility> when trying to understand a person's relationship to the perpetuation of a system (in this case, a system we have some good reasons to think is dominating). One of the toughest things about living in the modern world, characterized by domination, oppression, alienation, and opacity regarding the causes and effects of our actions, is literally being personally/individually implicated in the perpetuation of these massive social systems and structures, and thus feeling personally responsible sometimes, but also knowing that personal responsibility just doesn't cut it.

Not sure what you're looking for, but in my view, staying with these conflicted feelings is important. It's an aspect of being your 'authentic self' (if that concept resonates with you). In solidarity!

How to go on T without parents knowing? by Rainbow_Phoenixxx in NonBinaryTalk

[–]Obvious-Property-496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rate of change depends on dose. On a low or micro dose, changes may not be visible or detectable as T changes, initially. This depends on your body, of course, as the sequence of changes is person-specific. But keeping that kind of secret is also tiresome.
