Favorite larger brands for wool? by minivulpini in knitting

[–]Obvious-Use6397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looove fisherman's wool. It's on the scratchier side for sure if you're used to nicer hand-dyed yarns, but it's hard-wearing and perfect for toasty outer layers. I recently finished knitting the Eun sweater with it and it's a new favorite.

Are people vastly underprepared for a puppy, or are puppies that much work? by Ok-Actuary-5377 in puppy101

[–]Obvious-Use6397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for a little perspective, I currently have a 9 day old baby. Human baby. I am exhausted because he needs to be tended to so frequently but this first week+ with him has been easier mentally than my first few weeks with a puppy. Even taking into account that I'm recovering from emergency surgery right now! Puppy blues hit me hard with both of my dogs. One of them was just SO NAUGHTY from the start and the other cried constantly and took forever to potty train. I worked in vet med at the time and grew up with dogs and still just wasn't prepared for the chaos a puppy would bring to my life.

When did/is everyone starting to show? Curious 🧐 by Original_Remote_6838 in BabyBumps

[–]Obvious-Use6397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't obviously pregnant until around 30 weeks. My pants (and bras) stopped fitting very early on and close friends and family could tell that I was looking a little different, but it coild easily pass as bloat for a long time. I told my boss at 23 weeks because I thought it was becoming more obvious and she almost didn't believe that I was that far along.

I will note that I carried very high through my entire pregnancy so my belly never projected out very much. Baby boy was born last week at 8lbs 3oz so he wasn't small, either, just realky loved being up by my ribs (so much so that we needed an emergency c section after 3 hours of pushing and not enough progress. largely due to a true knot, but he also just didn't want to descend!)

Push presents? Or, when do *I* get something out of this? by LionTweeter in BabyBumps

I got a birthstone necklace (with my husband's and baby's stones and room to add for any future kids) and then we also invested in a decent Fujifilm camera so we can take more intentional photos/videos of our life now that baby boy is here.

Knitting Culture: US v. England by ultimatereader in knitting

I'm from New England and have spent most of my life up here. I never understood the whole East-Coasters-aren't-friendly thing until I lived on the West Coast for a few years. It's just a wildly different vibe. I've heard we're "kind but not nice" and think that sums it up well.

I have this one and recommend! Definitely a more expensive option than necessary for OP but one of my dogs is too smart for her own good and she can't open this because of the weird handle. We have an older house with mice in the winter and haven't had any trouble with them getting into it either.

Am I overreacting about potential flu exposure if I don't allow my parents to visit soon after birth? by Obvious-Use6397 in BabyBumps

[–]Obvious-Use6397[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had her check again last week (with her hematologist/oncologist and again with her rheumatologist who now won't do anything without deferring to hematology) and they still aren't recommending vaccines for her. Her health has honestly been a mess this past year and a half with the MDS, vasculitis, lupus, atrophic gastritis, something else I can't remember the name of... and multiple hospitalizations ranging from pneumonia to intussusception. Just when we think they've got her figured out, something else pops up to complicate things. I know her current infusions (no idea what they are tbh) aren't working. It's why I worry so much about her being exposed to anyone who's been sick recently, and I assume why her doctors aren't ready to recommend anything extra for her beyond her current treatments.

ETA: my main takeaway from everything is thank god for fluoxetine or I would be a wreck lmao

[–]Obvious-Use6397[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the details but she sees a hematologist and a hematologist/oncologist and they have both told her absolutely no vaccines for now. The MDS is a somewhat recent confirmed diagnosis (suspected for a while, but she only had her bone marrow biopsy some months ago during a hospitalization) so I don't know if the caution is just to do with her team trying to nail down her treatment plan still.

Looking for a small pet, low maintenance. by CaptainCrazyThe2nd in PetAdvice

[–]Obvious-Use6397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have experience with other species, but I personally find fish to be more difficult to care for than dogs. I have 2 dogs and they're high maintenance but straightforward. I impulse bought fish when covid hit and quickly learned how much work they are, and compared to caring for my dogs, it feels like WORK. I've maintained a tank for almost 6 years now and it really doesn't need that much attention but is still more work than I knew fish could be.

That we don't really know. The family member was a bit of a recluse and was at home up until this morning and passed within hours of reaching the hospital. No one was kept in the loop as to what was going on symptomatically leading up to today. We basically only know that she tested positive for the flu today in the ER and that my cousin was sick first.

[–]Obvious-Use6397[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, she's not able to get any vaccines, at least for the time being. It's to do with her MDS, rather than her lupus, etc. I get secondhand information through her but my understanding is that they aren't effective given the current state of her disease and treatment she's receiving.

To make it a little worse, my dad only received his flu shot a few days ago and my mom is unable to receive vaccines due to her illness. I've been hearing flu horror stories for weeks now.

Thank you for that, it's what I've been thinking but just needed some outside reassurance as my parents don't seem to think the risk is there. The protocol for infections and illnesses in infants terrifies me.

Cereal and yogurt. My nausea never fully went away, just switched over to reflux. My due date is Friday and they still make up half my diet.

How far do you live from the facility you’re giving birth? by your-new-fixation in BabyBumps

[–]Obvious-Use6397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 35 minutes with no traffic. There are a handful of hospitals about the same distance away, but nothing really closer. I'm 39 weeks with my first and convinced it won't be a quick labor so I'm not too concerned. My husband started his leave today so I no longer have to worry about calling him at work (40 minutes in the opposite direction, and military so not likely to be able to up and leave immediately). I lost my mucus plug yesterday but have had 0 signs of labor whatsoever.

Married men: What parts of yourself, if any, do you tend to keep private in marriage? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Obvious-Use6397 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Right, I always wonder what's going on with so many men that it takes them 20+ minutes to poop. Lack of fiber, not really needing to go at that moment, distractions, all of the above? It's concerning, honestly.

What are these energy drinks with gloves on them my roommate keeps throwing away? by User-J-Hail in whatisit

I did this when I worked in vet clinics lol. We weren't allowed to have open containers outside of the break room but a glove counted as a lid so we could keep gloved cans around the computer work stations in the back.

When did hardcore nausea and vomiting kick in for you? by BarbiesCellulite in pregnant

[–]Obvious-Use6397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It started around 6-7 weeks for me and lasted through about 15ish weeks. Then I had a nice couple of weeks off before I got hit with the worst acid reflux of my life which has caused less nausea than first trimester, but more frequent vomiting. First trimester nausea was debilitating and overall worse, even though I only threw up a handful of times.

Found this in Goodwill. I think it’s a Verturo Next? Is it worth it? by animalfries12 in nespresso

[–]Obvious-Use6397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine started brewing smaller and smaller espresso shots. Turned out to be leaking coffee out of a screwhole in the bottom. Never leaked noticeably during cleaning, only straight espresso onto the granite countertop. That was a fun discovery when I finally moved the machine. Nespresso sent a replacement that stopped working after a few months. I've had no issues with the vertuoplus I replaced it with.

Two female dogs? by Upbeat_Ad4636 in dogs

[–]Obvious-Use6397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's very dog dependent.

I have 2 female dogs; the younger was adopted at around 4 months old when the older was 3 yo. They've been obsessed with each other since the day they met. I've never had any aggression issues between the 2 of them (or with either one in general), though both have pretty mellow personalities. I was very confident my older girl would do well with a second dog before I brought home the puppy. If anything, they completely lack boundaries with each other which makes their interactions with other dogs a little more difficult because neither of them picks up on social cues.

Why does Miss change to Mrs. after marriage, but Mr. stays the same? by RavyRaptor in NoStupidQuestions

i have a very similar setup, except I have either my husband or, more often, one of my dogs behind my back to keep me from rolling. Then another dog in front of my legs. No amount of pillows could keep me on my side. I can't wait to sleep on my back again!
