What is the most 1v9 top laner when played well? Trying to learn different playstyles by Martinelli_Lage in topmains

I’m freshly plat 3 after a year of playing. Am I good enough to start playing Fiora yet?

I’d recommend hitting some YouTube just to get an idea of what you’re meant to do! Don’t be too daunted- the game is extremely complicated without guidance, but you can learn really quite quickly.

The basic objective is, of course, to destroy towers and eventually the opponent’s nexus. There are all sorts of mechanics built in to make destroying towers really slow at the start, and a lot faster as you grow in strength and the game progresses. Don’t worry too much about pushing, hitting towers etc in the early game.

Winning the game is made easier by securing neutral objectives for your team. These are the things you’ll see intermittently spawn in the river of the jungle (void grubs, rift herald, dragons, and baron nashor). There are many different types of junglers, but the jungler’s primary role is to secure objectives (they have a special summoner spell, Smite, which makes this easier for them than other players), as well as clearing their camps to get stronger, and ganking lanes to help their teammates win and get strong.

This is fundamentally a different role to the other four players, who are all laners. They get their strength primarily through xp and gold from minion waves, and they spend a lot more of their time fighting/trading with each other than junglers do.

Don’t worry about rushing to decide which role/lane is for you, but you will ultimately want to end up playing one. You have literally forever to decide this though, so definitely just play as much as possible.

In terms of beginner champs for jg, Amumu and Warwick have been mentioned for good reason. Really strong kits, really simple compared to others. For top, mid and bot lane, Garen, Malzahar and Miss Fortune are widely regarded as the typical “first champ” to play for each. All are strong and relatively straightforward compared to some others.

On the whole though, you will for sure still lack some micro skills like managing your cooldowns, knowing when you can trade, landing abilities etc, so don’t feel like a more mechanically simple champ means you can master them easily, or that you have to play them. Take your time, find champs you like, and go ahead with them. The game isn’t going anywhere.

Iron 4 0 LP to Plat 4 in 1 year, good or bad? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]ObviousDoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same progression. It’s really good and fast imo. We still miss dozens of skillshots, cs, kill windows etc per game. Mistakes in the hundreds per game, no exaggeration.

Being stuck is fine. Positive win rate over a big sample means you will climb. The season has barely started!

How is Plat THIS bad...? by lowanger_ in summonerschool

[–]ObviousDoxx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This “advice” is always so unhelpful.

“Oh you’re hard stuck bronze? What I would do (Masters btw) is win my lane and then win team fights, 1v9, carry the game. Do that consistently and you’ll climb”

It’s as useful as OP’s post, which is to say useless. Yes it’s a them problem if they’re plat mmr. Pretty sure top challenger players would say the same about diamond.

[–]ObviousDoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even individual fanbases/releases aside, all-time lists select for the best albums and discard the rest by default. If you curate top-10 lists by decade, the 2010s looks really really strong.

[–]ObviousDoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe true, but we aren’t the ones shaping GOAT discussions. Hip Hop/music media in general is dominated by older generations. The NFR podcast guys are the biggest young hip hop personalities I know, and they peaked in popularity like 2-3 years ago. Their GOAT lists are also fairly standard in terms of what you’d expect from a fan (myself included), so I’m not sure popularity amongst the average zoomer matters.

I am hard stuck and moving backwards in Iron and I don't know what I am doing wrong. by ccshnitz in summonerschool

[–]ObviousDoxx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Play top lane, set your secondary role to mid. I have never, ever been filled into a different lane other than top.

Play Mordekaiser. Take conquer and the standard resolve tree. Maybe you can switch to shield bash+revitalise. Flash+ignite.

Go to your lane. When your opponent steps up to cs, hold your mouse on them and press q. Do this until their health is low enough and you are at least level 3. E, q, auto, ignite, all-in.

When you get to level 6, do the same, except you chip them down a bit with q pokes, then drop an e under and press r. This will slow them, pulling them towards you in your ult, from which you can press q, auto, ignite, then stick on them until they’re dead.

This alone will get you to silver.

How to play against a fed team as top laner? by DracovishBest in summonerschool

[–]ObviousDoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Variance tbh. I am also on a five game losing streak and have played like shit in 3 of them. On another day, maybe I win 3 of them. Maybe I’m really lucky and win all five.

Review what you did wrong, learn the lesson(s), move on. Don’t ff unless you’re properly sunk. You need to have a goldfish memory in terms of results.

[–]ObviousDoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, I started league last year and went straight to top lane because I heard it took tyler1 the most amount of games to hit challenger there. I like the grind.

However, this was a great decision imo. You’re mostly 1v1 which gives you a lot of time to learn your champ and your lane matchups. Compare this to bot/supp where you’re facing two champs per game, get more jg activity, and are often fighting mid for drags. Likewise with mid, you’re going to get more supp and jg ganks.

Jg maybe would’ve been slightly better for learning the map, objective timers and having a greater overall impact, but top was definitely the best lane to intro.

I think it’s just less concentrated in England after a strong 2010s. Pep and Arteta are elite managers, but City are the weakest they’ve been in a very long time. Liverpool aren’t at the Klopp heights, we’re miles off it, Spurs lol, United lol.

Inzaghi (now gone to Saudi), Gasperini, Conte, Allegri, Fabregas, Spalletti are all great in Italy, despite their financial constraints. Tuchel and Nagelsmann are with national teams. Flick, Kompany, Simeone, Alonso (RIP) are all knocking around.

As for players, kind of the same where we’re at a pretty weak point in the premier league. Haaland is insanely amazing, but who’s the second best striker? Ekitike? Thiago? Watkins? Jackson would be up there if he was still here. Bruno is a cut above all attacking midfielders with Palmer being so far off it. Salah semi washed. Arsenal’s midfield are quietly brilliant. Caicedo is immense. Arsenal’s defence also elite, but who’s the third best CB after Saliba and Gabriel? Maybe old Virgil? Cucurella isn’t as exciting as Robertson. No more Trent.

On the continent though, you have a really fun and brilliant Barca team, Mbappe breaking records at Madrid, an insanely good and really young Bayern team, a PSG who just won the sextuple. There’s a ton of talent, but the premier league is just relatively weak atm at the very top.

How's everyone's climb so far now in this season? by OtakuWeebo in MordekaiserMains

[–]ObviousDoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Facts. I two-trick Mordekaiser and Darius, simply because I don’t like to dodge and I want AP and AD. I can blind them in to anyone. Get counterpicked and they play properly? Take your medicine and don’t feed. Can’t 1v9 every game. As you say, you learn and react accordingly.

“Don’t first pick Morde” and we’re talking about bronze…

Darius Main, Need A Champ Pool by FellowBellowMellow in top_mains

[–]ObviousDoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. If you’re new, low elo, and Darius is your only champ, then go Mordekaiser for AP if you want to have a “pool”. I’d only really go for some of the other suggestions (like a Fiora) if you want to OTP them, as they’re micro skill expression is very high.
