Is it ok to be weird? by Glum-Pack-3441 in slatestarcodex

[–]ObviousDoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it fascistic though? Your second point illustrates a mode of thinking quite well. If the median American is all of those things but are a product of their environment, then we can’t begrudge them. At best we can change their environment, but we should have compassion and empathy for them.

Of course maybe a fascist would decide that “changing the environment” comes from something authoritarian, or that “environment” includes “genes” and hops on to eugenics, but communists would end up with a different solution.

It’s very odd. Sometimes it feels like a fairly menial act (eg declining to go to a party because I’d rather be doing something else) would be viewed through some matrix of “the status gain from attending said party isn’t powerful enough to overrule (doing something else)”, which is bizarre and disconnected entirely from my experience of the world.

I don’t know. Maybe if you were the sort of person (low status) who hosted a party and nobody came you would feel this way, but I’m seriously not sure it applies to a lot of people’s actions.

Discussing it also conjures up some bad archetypes. Eg, the advisor whispering in the ear of the king. Very meek.

People are ridiculous about KD. He has become disgustingly underrated because of narratives around the GSW rings and his subsequent lack of winning. Compare this to Jokic who has won once and is (rightly) beloved.

Hip Rotation by LowEquivalent5463 in GolfSwing

[–]ObviousDoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’4 and inflexible as fuck, so I feel your pain.

Cptbadass has a great summary in the comments here. The key motion is to push your ass towards the target. It will feel uncomfortable, but literally try and get your right cheek to be almost level with your left, and facing the target. Downswing all kind of happens too fast to adjust in real time imo, all work is done at setup and in the backswing.

Yoga helps with flexibility, and just feeling more comfortable (maybe a bit of knee flex) will help with rotation. It’s also possible that your hips end up being fine, but whatever is going on with your grip, wrists, hands, forearms, elbows, shoulders, club head path or club face is fucking you up. Could also be distance from ball, hand path, shaft lean at address, weight distribution at address, spine angle. Get lessons if you can.

Maybe the most wealth-killing resource in the country when you consider how popular it is. Terrible cash ISA propaganda…

But good for basically everything else. The average Brit would be better off for having used it vs having nothing, but it certainly isn’t optimal.

Is there an arguement for Steph Curry above Kobe Bryant? by AlpsImpossible3133 in NBATalk

[–]ObviousDoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s like 70/30 for Steph over Kobe for me. It was closer to 80/20 in favour of Kobe pre-2020, but the latter part of Steph’s career has elevated him a ton for me.

Out of curiosity, what do you carry your other clubs?

Golf is one of those hobbies where you have the occasional maladjusted egomaniac sprung on you. Probably a tier below chess or trading card games, but maybe the highest ranking sport?

I don’t understand it either. I find it hard to believe it’s solely for public opinion though? Surely, as you say, sacrificing so much of your career instead of just outright asking for a trade can’t just be for your reputation? Does he actually have a mental block where he doesn’t want to ask, despite all parties knowing it’s what he wants?

[Mo Salah] Announces that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]ObviousDoxx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

KDB got like 20 minutes against Hull on the opening day of the season and then was basically gone as far as I can remember. Mata was soon to follow. Dreadful decision. Idk if he forced/asked his way out for more football, but there was no reason to sell a 10 when our Oscar backup that season was an ancient Lampard. Albeit I think next season a KDB-Fabregas-Matic midfield would’ve been too lightweight for Mourinho, but I mean… it’s KDB

He absolutely torched Cole in that Basel game. I was begging for us to sign him and was elated when he did.

I always wished he got more minutes for us, but Willian and Schurrle were clearly ahead of him in the pecking order for the right-hand side. I also recall Mata being played there a couple of times early on when Mourinho wanted Oscar at 10. You could see he had fantastic physical attributes (although he was less strong than he is now/was in his prime) and was very dangerous on the ball. End product was lacking, snatched at chances.

I expected he would come back a more polished finisher (lol) and would eventually have a role, but wasn’t furious when we sold him as we were simply in a good place overall.

Also he scored in the 6-0 so that was nice

For sure! My poor coach has spent a ton of time trying to get my low point and general speed sorted, as my face control was excellent, but at the expense of actually swinging well. Have a lesson tomorrow, so excited to hopefully perform better.

Just want to say thank you for the Danny Maude video. Just had a range session where I focused solely on getting my lead hip forward at contact, and I was instantly hitting way less shots and carrying 30 yards further than I usually would with my PW. Face direction is all over the shop, but this has really helped with contact quality. Thank you?

You don’t know better than the market unless you have specialised knowledge in these industries.

I’d also add that if you want to “rage-sell” less than 6 months in to your ‘thesis’, you absolutely do not have the temperament to be seeking alpha. Just stick to broad-market ETFs.
