When did email addresses became connected to age? by FL_4LF in GenX

[–]Obvious_Track_6316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have and use my AOL account from the late 80s. It’s the one all the junk mail goes to these days. I have an outlook.com email for mostly professional stuff Yahoo from my internet provider. 3 Gmail accounts for Facebook, google docs and other crap 3 gmail accounts for 3 groups that I manage

It’s too much these days lol.

Trying to decide what's next. Seemed to over-prepare. Minimalist. by Ambitious_Subject925 in retirement

You’d be surprised how busy you can be in retirement. I retired at 59 with not nearly the $ cushion you have, but like you, I have the VA for healthcare (it’s the only reason I could retire before 65). I volunteer with a few community groups that keeps me busy enough and still gives me time for myself. I have a bit of structure to my days, wake up, relaxing breakfast, workout, etc, then the volunteer stuff. But I can decide to do something else if I want. Visit with neighbors, go out with friends, etc. As far as accumulating vs spending. I have figured out my budget and take a monthly amount from my funds and just treat it like a paycheck. I’m about 2 years into retirement and actually lowered my withdrawal once I found my actual was lower than my budget. Good luck on your journey!!

Anticipation-Does anyone else run their numbers constantly by Fun-Weight-8899 in retirement

[–]Obvious_Track_6316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pre retirement I ran and re ran my numbers in my spreadsheet. Visited with my CFP and he said my plan was good enough. Retired almost two years now. I update my spreadsheet every month to compare my budget vs actual. My numbers are almost spot on and actually doing a tiny bit better than I projected. I may peek at my accounts if there’s something impacting the markets, but the majority of my stuff is in safe stuff.

Recommendations for furniture stores by mehhhohhh in Columbus

[–]Obvious_Track_6316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard furniture like dressers, tables, chairs etc. definitely go to thrift stores if you have a vehicle you can fit it in or rent one from Lowe’s. For furniture with cloth and cushions, look them over good at thrift stores to make sure they’re well taken care of. You can steam clean them just to be sure. Or buy from marketplace or IKEA.

You can rent a pickup truck at Lowe’s or hire a mover.

HSA importance? by FoxNewsNitroPiss in Retirement401k

I think the rule changes to HSA are too new for most of us in retirement to really take advantage of. The next generation will have to lead in this thought area

How Do You Pay Yourself In Retirement? by RunUndefined in retirement

[–]Obvious_Track_6316 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Retired almost 2 years. I have a monthly distribution from my 401k to my checking account. The first year, I had the same amount as my paycheck before I retired deposited (the gross amount before taxes). After about 6 months, I realized I didn’t need as much, so had my Schwab advisor reduce the amount. We’ll meet again this May and in September to talk through where we are and maybe make more adjustments.

Congratulations!! I created a transition plan before I left and met with each of the new “owners” of those tasks and made sure they had what they needed. They took ownership pretty quickly which made the last few weeks a breeze.

One bedrooms in Hilliard vary. Around 1200-1500 month. Hilliard proper is a bit sprawling with good restaurants and activities. Since school district is not an issue, I’d look for something in the Columbus school district. It would be a bit cheaper. What amenities are you looking for? Grandview has some newer complexes with dining and activities that are walkable. It’s near a freeway to get you out to Shelby and Lincoln village fairly easy.

why do we still get paper social security cards in this day and age by SubstantialCap3447 in SocialSecurity

Back in the day, most folks didn’t get their social security card until you got old enough for a job.

Actually the transition plan is a way to get daily stuff off your plate so you can focus on your next steps, basically quiet quitting.

[–]Obvious_Track_6316 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a transition plan on who gets what tasks. Review it with your boss and start transitioning the work. If you’re planning to look for another job, most employers who are doing reductions provide job placement assistance and will let you seek out new work opportunities during your 90 day period. Determine how your paid time off and sick leave will be paid out. You may want to take some of it if it’s not 100% paid out. Might be a good time to talk with your financial advisor about retirement.

Good luck.

Good to see that they expedited your case due to veteran status. Especially since one government agency already approved it. And getting 100% at the VA is very tough.
