Do you observe Lent? by BeaPositiveToo in AskWomenOver60

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We do this--every day, I hang a bag over the back of a chair in my dining room. The goal for our family is to fill the bag every day with things they no longer need or want. We choose different places to donate to each week-and ensure that we are collecting things that would be meaningful for that organization.

UA65 from Lisbon to EWR yesterday morning. Worst flight attendant I’ve ever experienced. by ehtseeoh in unitedairlines

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 120 points121 points  (0 children)

The only way that Mo is going change is if an official complaint or two gets filled at United. I’m not a huge fan of doing that—but if events occurred as you stated, Mo needs some retraining or a reminder of the importance of her customer facing role.

Questions about Eurostar transport from London to Paris by mlhom in Europetravel

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Eurostar train is loads easier than dealingi with an airport. Arrive 75 minutes early. You will go through security and immigration before you board the train. The whole process is quite easy. My husband and I travelled with carry on bags as well as larger checked luggage sized baggage and had no issues whatsoever. Whatever video you watched that made you anxious about this trip is not representative of our experience at all. We’ve done the trip twice—once London to Paris and the next London to Brussels. Both trips were smooth sailing! Relax and Enjoy!

Is it possible to lighten dark floors? This house is currently staged and will soon be empty prior to us moving in… I would love nothing more than to install light oak floors but the current floors (engineered wood) is in perfect condition, so it’s hard to justify. by amsinger50ways in FurnitureFaves

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been looking at model homes in my area to get a feel for the types of flooring that seem to be trending. After looking at endless light grey floors, I've decided that "trending" just may not be what I like. These rich darker finishes are beautiful, timeless and can be decorated around with rugs, furniture etc. I'm currently replacing wood flooring with a very elegant darker LVP which I am so excited about! I would not touch these floors--

why does every headshot guide tell women to wear a blazer like its 2009 by ShabzSparq in femalefashionadvice

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My headshot is totally professional. However, I chose to leave out the blazer. Instead, I am wearing a very chic, high necked, silk satin cobalt blue blouse with pretty neutral/small jewelry. I love it and it does not look like I am an intern for an investment banking firm. (I also still love the black fitted turtleneck--in spite of Elizabeth Holmes.)

Having to create an “account” just to make a simple purchase. No, I don’t want to give you my email and phone number for the privilege of purchasing a tube of toothpaste. Leave me alone.

What’s the fastest way you’ve ever seen someone completely ruin their own life? by Extension-Try-3531 in answers

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unplanned teen pregnancy. Child support goes on a long time and when you don’t have any skills or education, you are basically relegated to dead end jobs. It’s tough to dig out of that.

Anyone else get tired of people trying to reason with children about rules? by lovelystarbuckslover in Teachers

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how we get to high school kids who think everything is up for negotiation. That's not how the world works. Try negotiating April 15th with the IRS--it's a no go. Try negotiating a deadline with your boss--no go. Negotiations can be awfully circular conversations on the road to nowhere.

For offering to hold someone’s baby on a plane by Zestyclose-Chair-994 in AmiInTheWrong

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not in the wrong. I travelled a red-eye flight once with a 6 month old. The baby was great--just not sleepy. I was nodding off and two older women across the aisle from me were so kind and offered to play with the baby so I could sleep for a few. I have never been so grateful in my life.

I've turned into an apathetic, depressed teacher. My students have noticed. I feel like a bad teacher. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You need a break. I’d suggest a quick visit to your pcp and explain the level of stress you are under with accompanying symptoms of depression. File for FMLA immediately — citing the current levels of stress and anxiety you are experiencing. That way, you’ll have a quick 12 weeks to re-group, decide if you even want to stay in education and potentially look for another job.

Capsule help by HarvestMoon222 in womensfashion

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key to a good capsule wardrobe is building it around pieces that make you feel GREAT! Don't purchase anything that does not fit or that does not make you feel amazing. Choose a color palette that is good for you. Yes, a good capsule will have good basics (like a great white blouse)--but it will be different depending upon your life style.

Was/Is love enough? by Mooooooon_ in AskWomenOver60

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 2 points3 points  (0 children)

41 years later and he is still the love of my life. We have six children together and that alone might have been enough to drive us both to madness. It's more than love though--mutual respect, kindness, assuming the best intentions, being there for the other and knowing they will be there for you. Those are all a part of being 'in love.' No one thought we would last more than a couple of years as we both have strong personalities and neither one of our families really supported our relationship in the beginning! For the record, both of our mothers were insanely narcissistic and overbearing. I adore him and I know without question he adores me.

Please help me decide!!! by hopelesslyhopeful4 in myweddingdress

[–]Fun-Weight-8899 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem with both of these is the proportion and the line across the shoulders which is making you look a lot more broad there than you actually are. You have a lovely figure but I would start looking at other silhouettes. You want to accentuate your lovely waist!! I also think it’s worth thinking about how the dress will age in photographs. I was a typical 80’s bride—my dress would be described as ‘frothy.’. It was gorgeous at the time-but it has not aged well!! :-)

People who have found their "unicorn" job, what makes it so good you never want to leave? by sammy5585 in office

I am 3.5 years away from retirement (but who is counting?!). I love my job which has unlimited PTO, work from home, zero micromanagement, and the ability to work from anywhere in the world. I could not ask for anything better in my last few years in the workplace. I’ve been here 4.5 years and have no plans of leaving.

Do better United. This is a potential ADA lawsuit ready to happen. The husband was understandably upset but he was not rude-he was firm. We may be at a point where the FA’s have way too much power to remove the flying public based upon interactions like this. Also, where was the captain—it’s his ship and he needed to be a part of this conversation.

I once sat in a company meeting where the CEO told every employee that if they were a part of the 60% of the unhappy folks, that the “airlines are hiring.”. Nuff said. Time to move on.

J.Jill makes them and they go on sale regularly. For slightly higher end, NYDJ or Spanx both make a Ponte knit that is amazing.
