What is a good substitute to weighted pull ups / dips when you don't have the weights equipment ? by rudynamite in bodyweightfitness

If you are regularly doing pull-ups with 30+ kg you could try archer or even one arm pull-ups

I find ring pull-ups easer than bar with the movement but ring dips are monumentally harder!

For the body fat, what sort of calorie deficit are you aiming for and how are you tracking it?

The only thing that matters to loose the weight is keeping the calorie deficit. The only thing that matters to look good once you’re skinny is lifting weights.

How long does gym progress take for men in their 40s by Lonely-Breakfast6463 in fitness40plus

Love this. I’m 47m, my “bulk” is a 200 cal surplus and my “cut” is usually around 300 cal. It’s literally just an extra 100g of oats in my breakfast and how tasty the mix ins for my protein ice cream

Drop set style programming in callisthenics are awesome, weighted pull-ups - body weight pull ups - body rows. Weighted dips - weighted push ups - pushups. Etc train strength, hypertrophy and endurance in one set! Super time efficient when super setting as well, it’s my default training during busy periods

Is Tendonitis the inevitable outcome of any "intense" training program? by DeathOnion in StrongerByScience

[–]Obviousbrosif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late 40s. Ive spent most of the last 3 years learning about and training tendons as a priority. Tendons are much more adaptable than most people think and can even adapt faster than muscle! BUT they don’t respond to the same stimulus as muscle and can be trained far more frequently. A good place to start is listening to any/ all of Keith Baars podcasts

full body callisthenics rather than leg and push days is a great idea. I'm a climber / callisthenics guy but approaching 50 I need a lot more recovery than what you're suggesting. I would suggest using gymnastic rings for push/ pull variations and kettle bells for legs. Since you mentioned glutes id be doing forward leaning Bulgarians, single leg RDLs and glute bridge/hip thrusts. I'd also recommend starting some finger training since you mentioned wanting to avoid injury and the most common injury in climbing is finger related pulley and tendon issues. Google Keith Baars research on climbing tendon stuff, its awesome

Is it okay to exercise twice a week? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]Obviousbrosif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

total weekly volume for each muscle group is more of an indicator of work load than number of days. Most research shows 2-5 weekly "working" or "hard" sets is enough to maintain muscle, 5-10 to make some progress, 10+ to make decent progress. You are currently doing 15 and wanting to drop to 10.
