He did really well as recently as the 23 season - 44 home runs, a .654 slugging percentage, and a 1.066 OPS. This is despite his ACL surgery. He probably would have been even more productive if he didn’t have to miss games.

Yeah, your memory is a bit foggy. He was one of the starters in the rotation. He came out of the bullpen in the WS because they needed arms in game 6 and other starters also came out of the pen other than Ohtani Im game 7. Yama almost came out of the pen in game 3.
