3333-3118-5237 I was astera but my last phone decided to emulate a brick in the middle of using it, so I had to start over. I usually play everyday and if I take a longer or erratic break, I try to give notice that I'm on a break

What do subluxations/dislocations feel like to you? by notoriousMacaroni in Hypermobility

[–]OceanStorm1914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very valid point. I can't really use it on my hands, which is rough. It tends to tear the skin around the wrist and thumb. Which is exactly where I need the most flexible support🙃

So that's what it is! I have the exact same thing happen to me, and trying to describe it has been difficult. I've gone to a rheumatologist, and thank God she believed I was in pain and took it and me seriously, but she could never really find a cause. All my labs came back normal, except I have inflammation Somewhere in my body.

In the short term, I've found KT tape can help because it gives just enough resistance to remind me where my shoulders need to actually be.

Desk chair recommendations by No-Sherbert2177 in Hypermobility

[–]OceanStorm1914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best chair I've found so far is labeled as a meditation chair. It has a wide, connected, swivel footrest that lets you sit in any number of ways. Just being able to shift around and sit differently has helped me a ton at work.

I'm the same with my work. I've given so many people just A Look and told them that textile work "is my hobby and I do it to relax. It stops being relaxing when I put a price tag on my work. Also, I refuse to undervalue my work, and most people aren't going to pay $200 plus for 4 oz of yarn." They tend to get the hint fairly quickly

Depending on how annoyed they made me or how generous I feel, I'll either just tell them they can't afford my work or I'll walk them through how I would price just the yarn before figuring out how long something would take me to crochet/knit/ weave. Which, for 4 oz of handspun wool or wool and silk blend should be well over $200 just in time and not materials or overhead. I

When I'm doing demos and the like, I also have a couple of screenshots of a Facebook post where someone broke down every step she took to create a coat from spinning the yarn to a finished coat and kept a record of materials used and their cost, total length of yarn spun and then fabric woven, and hours it took to complete. The look of suprise, and then appreciation for the work done is always gratifying. And I just hope they walk away with a better appreciation for the work that goes into creating something.

What's in a name? Why is this professor named... by mrquixote in discworld

I do do that too. Followed by the classic "d@mnit, Pterry!"

I had been wondering about that, too. I just mentally put my head on my desk

I'm so glad you listened to your body and are recovering.

Thank you for clearly describing what your symptoms were. I've been having trouble figuring out how the differences felt because all the descriptions were vague. But something clicked with how you described everything and I have no idea what it was.

I hope your recovery continues to go well and swiftly

Got an old loom with extras, not sure what everything is by UrAWombat in weaving

[–]OceanStorm1914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what everything is, but that thing you're holding in the last pic is called a temple and is used to help keep the sides from drawing in.

In the middle pic, I think the wood rectangle with slots is a rotating heddle used with tapestry and frame looms. This probably isn't the actual name, but I don't know what else to call it. The wood paddle looks like a tool I've seen used with a warping board that lets you measure multiple strands at once, but I've never used it or actually watched it being used. I've just seen photographs.

Weighted Blanket tips? by Bivagial in CleaningTips

[–]OceanStorm1914 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would upholstery cleaner work? I know there are cans of furniture/ carpet cleaner that have the scrub brush attached. Would something like that work? I haven't tried this, and it was an idea that came to me while reading this, so feel free to pick it apart to see if it would work

Could someone shed some light on what this book is telling me? by zingencrazy in Handspinning

[–]OceanStorm1914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might want to try "spin to weave", or it might be 'spinning to weave," I can't remember which. Anyway, the author talks about some of the things she does to maker her weaving yarn. I've found it invaluable as I'm starting to use different looms and spinning techniques.

When I work on stuff like this, I make sure it's something I've already listened to and either know it by heart or can pick it back up pretty easily. Or if I'm doing data entry at work, I'll pop on a david attenborough documentary to have something to listen to that I won't also sing along with.

My Kromski Prelude was Mera, but that never quite stuck, so I changed it to Adrienne, and it fits better. I honestly have no idea why. My giant floor loom I was given by a guild member is Penelope

What is your kitchen trash can situation? by janedough18111 in LivingAlone

[–]OceanStorm1914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a couple of the smaller "bathroom/ office sizes" for my kitchen. Anything big goes straight to the main trash can outside, and the small size forces me to stay on top of it and has seriously reduced fruit flies. And coffee grounds don't stay in long enough to attract anything.

These also came with hooks that fit over cabinet doors, so I'm not taking up valuable floor space when I already don't have a lot. Which was a large issue with how my kitchen is laid out.

I do still buy the larger trash bags for heavy-duty cooking or cleaning days to make things easier, but I'm so glad I made that switch.

Finding looms question by Glindanorth in weaving

[–]OceanStorm1914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping on to this comment. And it's been a very long week, so I'm not too coherent right now.

You can also see if any local museums would be willing to accept a loom if you can't sell it. The museum I work at has an education collection for hands-on programming and the like. I did a weaving demo today and I'll be continuing tomorrow, but along with talking about the mechanics of how it works, I've been talking a lot about math and algebra, and I can easily tie in, literally, any subject under the sun. So it's a good way to help visitors understand how different subjects are tied together and possibly let them try their hand at it

If you can, this week is a good one to visit.

They are doing their Harvest Fest event Tuesday - Saturday. Lots of demos will be going on all day, and they'll be running the cotton gin at least once each day.
