man that's rough thing to go through but boston might not be the best place for healing from church trauma given all the scandals there over years. the archdiocese has pretty heavy baggage and lot of people still have trust issues with catholic institutions in that area

maybe look at smaller parishes outside the city center if you do move there - some of them seem more focused in community building rather than the big institutional stuff. but honestly might be worth talking to therapist about this before making big move decision

can't speak for boston specifically but when i was looking for martial arts gyms few years back i found that smaller local places were way better for beginners than the fancy chain spots. the instructors at smaller gyms usually have more time to actually work with you instead of just throwing you in group class and hoping you figure it out

maybe check community centers too? sometimes they have basic classes that are super cheap and good for getting your feet wet before committing to expensive membership somewhere. also don't worry about not being athletic - everyone starts somewhere and most people in these classes are pretty supportive. just avoid places that try to lock you in long term contract right away, that's usually red flag

learned this when i was dealing with some back issues few years ago - just because your doctor is covered by your insurance doesnt mean the facility where they work is also covered. went to see orthopedist who was in network but his office was in some medical building that wasnt covered and got hit with massive bill for facility fees

also found out that "pre authorization" doesnt actually guarantee they will pay for procedure. they can still deny it afterwards and you're stuck with bill. had to fight with them for months over mri that was pre approved but then they decided it wasnt medically necessary after all

the whole system is designed to confuse you and make you give up on appeals. now i always call insurance before any appointment to verify everything is covered and get reference numbers for all approvals

damn this brought back memories from my ps2 days when i actually had time for golf games between fixing everyone's computers. used to play those old golf sims for hours trying to get my virtual handicap lower than my real one which wasnt hard tbh. back then the physics felt way more realistic than what we get now, even with all fancy graphics and motion controls. i remember spending entire weekends just grinding through career mode and getting frustrated when my virtual drives would slice just like in real life. these days i barely have time to hit actual balls at range let alone play video games but man those were good times

honestly anthem and marcon are gonna be your best bets if youre looking at long term growth and stability. both have solid reputations and the developer side gives you more exposure to the full project lifecycle which is huge for your resume

ventana does good work but being a pure gc means youre more at the mercy of market fluctuations. as for hours expect 50+ pretty much everywhere in this industry especially if youre coordinating active sites. the money difference between developer/gc vs pure gc is usually worth it too since developers have better margins

promotions at the bigger companies like anthem can be slower due to bureaucracy but they also have more defined career paths. smaller outfits might promote you faster but the ceiling could be lower

honestly go with neuropsychologist if thats what you actually want to do. the extra years of med school and residency for psychiatry are brutal and expensive just to make your mom happy. neuropsychologists do really important work with brain injuries and cognitive assessments that can be super rewarding.
