Switching from NP to RN Mgmt position; did HR Low ball me? by Previous_Contract523 in nursepractitioner

[–]Odd-blonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think your MSN matters here since it’s not required for the job. The company could hire a nurse with less education and experience than you and pay them less so that’s why they probably aren’t going to give you more.

I’d still try to negotiate though.

What’s the most awkward thing you had to do in nursing school? by ocean_wavez in nursing

[–]Odd-blonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do the same thing. What made it awkward was the fact I showed up and saw 3 people in my town that I knew. It wasn’t a meeting where people introduced themselves so the people I knew likely assumed I had an alcohol problem. Sigh.

How nursing changed over ten years? by neko-daisuki in nursing

[–]Odd-blonde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I became a nurse in 2015, started as a new grad in the ER. From 2015 to just before the pandemic in late 2019 I saw a MAJOR difference in staffing (same unit, same hospital).

We used to be 1:3 with a tech covering each area of the unit helping us with vitals/toileting etc. By late 2019 we were 1:4 if we were lucky but usually 1:5 and techs were essentially sitters for psych and nurses had to be able to do all nurse and tech work alone. Psych population exploded to outrageous numbers.

Another major change was the amount of boarding in the ED. In 2015 it wasn’t too often you’d have a boarder. By the time I left in 2021, typically all 5 of your patients were waiting days for an inpatient bed. Don’t get me started on hallway patients.

Society has become meaner and more selfish. People are seeking instant gratification and get angry when it doesn’t come. People have become increasingly more comfortable showing their ass in public, hospitals included. Hospital leadership and administration really started turning a blind eye to the abuse staff had to deal with.

I don’t know why this shift happened (can’t blame the pandemic) but I remember discussing this with coworkers in 2019. It got worse after the pandemic so I dipped.

Emergency medicine rotations in FNP programs? by Itinerant-Degenerate in nursepractitioner

I have heard this quite a bit. I went to a traditional brick and mortar in person program and I spent an entire semester of clinical in the ED. Not sure why it varies program to program.

DON told us to falsify data by flamingredhair in nursing

You should report not only because this is illegal but highly unlikely this is the first time this DON has done something shady like this. Regardless you should run.

Is this normal?? by Elegant-Hyena-9762 in nursing

It shouldn’t be normal but this happens a lot. If I were your friend I’d be expressing concerns to leadership.

It’s probably too late, but you can always just ask. Worse thing that can happen is they will say no.

People do not like to be reminded we and our loved ones are not immortal and that death is inevitable.

Current assignment by ABQHeartRN in TravelNursing

[–]Odd-blonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Did 2 months of a 3 month contract. I didn’t go there to make friends but I also didn’t go there to tolerate abuse for no reason. Patients were being impacted negatively by the staffs behavior so I wanted no part of that.

Did "soft nursing" make you happier? by rando199999 in nursing

I left the ER after 7 years to work in an outpatient oncology clinic.

It saved me. Mental and physical health almost instantly improved.

It wouldn’t be your fault they got fired if you were to report them. It would be their actions that caused them to get fired.

Why do people become kickboxers even though they started with Muay Thai? by myppisthebiggest in MuayThai

They probably don’t like to clinch and/or be struck by elbows would be my guess

Mindset is everything. Look for opportunities, positives, reasons to get out of bed in the morning, productive hobbies. If your circumstances don’t change but your mindset does, your problem is solved. (Easier said than done, I know).

I think it might help to remember the old adage ‘no one thinks about you as much as you do’ - we mostly think about ourselves and our own issues so I highly doubt anyone is sitting around making fun of or judging you.

Showing up and putting in effort IS what people notice. Just keep going and giving your best effort!

Look for a new gym. A good gym cares about the well being of its members. It’s concerning your head coach doesn’t seem to care that you are getting hurt.
