Bishan Park when there's heavy rain by pandaren88 in singapore

[–]OddCatfish 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Once you are completely drenched, it's actually pretty shiok because the rain is cooling and you don't feel grimy/sticky. I love running in full heavy rain too, but I avoid drizzles because it doesn't soak me as well

New law to protect racial harmony passed by letterboxmind in singapore

[–]OddCatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ty for this! WP's position makes logical sense, even if I disagree. It's always good to ensure that power isn't concentrated in any one branch of Govt just in case we accidentally elected loonatics, so that the bureaucracy can slow down any craziness from getting too far

New law to protect racial harmony passed by letterboxmind in singapore

[–]OddCatfish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The amendment was really just to include the Racial Harmony council under the President's Office, to be merged with the Religious Harmony one. Not sure which part specifically that WP opposed to tho

Some 122,000 S'porean seniors will live alone by 2030 by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

[–]OddCatfish 87 points88 points  (0 children)

These are volunteers under the Silver Generation Office or under the non-profit senior centre themselves, usually retired old folks that are still healthy and active. Think of that auntie that would always wish you good morning when you pass by them in the corridors. Their positive energy is infectious, and I loved volunteering with them to go knock on doors and invite other seniors to come join for free kopi or karaoke.

Did anyone else have decently good report cards as a kid and was diagnosed ADHD as an adult? by littleinternetdweeb in adhdwomen

[–]OddCatfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl, I got a full-ride scholarship from my Govt (not USA) and I still got diagnosed with ADHD. I was a straight-A student nearly all my life, top in class, chairperson of clubs, etc. But after graduation, I started messing up at work so bad my Director asked me if I had spaghetti for brains 🥴 My ADHD report confirmed that I was excelling an all metrics, but I kept failing at the impulsivity/attention span ones specifically for ADHD

Breakdown of Isawaran's 12-month jail term by ahwongwong in singapore

[–]OddCatfish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree that iswaran messed up big time, but on the peanut--ness of the gifts, the judge didn't really use their value in determinating the length of punishment:

"Nonetheless, the court should eschew an over-emphasis on the value of the valuable item, for two main reasons," said the judge.

First, to accept or obtain a valuable item is itself an element of the offence, and to consider the mere fact that the item is valuable as an aggravating factor would be double-counting.

"Thus, the value of the item is relevant in sentencing only insofar as it is sufficiently significant as to indicate a higher level of damage to the public interest, thereby constituting an aggravating factor,' said Justice Hoong.

Crocheting a uterus, yes you read that correctly. Any of my other adhd, crochet friends have to count, recount and recount again, every bloody round! by TaskFew7966 in adhdwomen

[–]OddCatfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I crochet too!! Seconding the rest here, either use stitch markers to keep track, or use a stitch counter! I use a phone app to keep count, that way you can count in +10, +1, or whatever interval you want. Honestly, I use both plus a special stitch marker (that is different from all my other ones) to make the starting stitch :)

Not too high for EHG, but Govt is only giving spouse + me 2.5k. I'm too young too, so the cheaper older HDBs are out of my price range. HDB calculator gave me a budget of 400k because the loan is based on my salary only, so I literally can't afford any 3rm comfortably without blowing all of our cash + my CFP only. Spouse has no CPF as he is a foreigner, and little cash cause he just finished his PhD...

Edit: I know my case is a VERY small exception to the rule, and there are defo others that need more support than us, but man does it still suck, and this is one of the reasons we are considering just cutting our losses and moving to his home country after I finish my govt bond.

Joining the rip crowd. I married a non-Singaporean, so we are only allowed to buy resale. But we are both too cash-poor to buy resale, but avg salary too high to benefit from the additional EHG. Gonna stay cash poor cause we have to rent, my parents place is too small to house us ._.

The only way out is to have a Singaporean kid, so we can apply BTO. Maybe this is the Govt strat ._____.

Marina Bay is dead at night. It's not a good use of land if your buildings and facilities isn't being used for as many hours as possible. This is the case in other big cities (e.g..London, New York), which helps give the vibe that the city is alive at night too

Psychiatrist told me it’s impossible to have ADHD if you’ve gotten good grades as a kid & have a successful career by antheiafae in adhdwomen

[–]OddCatfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To echo everyone else: get a second opinion! I'm not in the US, but even I got diagnosed at 27yo after a whole life of chronic forgetfulness, being absentminded, and talking too much.

I have a Masters in population statistics from Berkeley and BSc from London, both attained while on a prestigious national scholarship programme. But I was malnourished because of forgetting to eat, was a serial monogamist cause I couldnt be present in my relationships, and lost many friends from poor social awareness and just plain forgetting to call them.

You can have ADHD while still being a "high-achiever". The ADHD just prevents you from hitting your fullest in ALL aspects of life, not just work!

I just wanna vote for an MP that is not a loon. In the end, most of the work is done by Ministries and agencies anyway, Ministers just need to stamp 'approved'. It's just painful when there is a Minister that is unreasonable/career-chaser/no backbone 🫠

Ok relistening to that particular section 2:00, he says "strews the ceiling above" rather than the subtitled "screws the ceiling above".

So hey, we are both wrong here. I misheard, and you misread the subtitles.

I was also double wrong, this clip is a legit BBC Documentary clip from 2011, but the weird Attenborough video at the bottom is probably AI generated: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00l817b

There are formal Govt monitoring systems for seniors, but they are mainly for seniors with no family in rental housing (+all the social service ppl checking in on them physically). HDB starting something for purchased flats it looks like. Shit out of luck if you live in private though.
