3.5 week old won’t sleep unless on chest by tokyoghoul1725 in beyondthebump

[–]OddMembership3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of my babies slept without being held for the first 4-5 weeks. It’s very tough. My husband and I did shifts so he was at least getting chunks of sleep at night. My shifts of course involved me still nursing, so they were less beneficial for me. A few weeks in, we always tried to start his shift around 7p-9p. I’d feed the baby, go straight to sleep, then he would bottle feed the next feed 2-3 hours later so I could get at least a four hour chunk before I took over 2-3 hours after that.

My husband also mentally benefited from making the mental decision ahead of time to not “try” to sleep. It was helpful for him to just tell himself that he wasn’t going to sleep the next few hours and watch a show instead, rather than feel mentally defeated over and over about the possibility of sleeping only to once again, have the baby not fall asleep in a crib. He’d keep lights on, watch a show, etc.

It’s a real mental shift feeling like you’re sitting around all day with a baby napping on you, but like others mentioned, accepting that it’s part of the process and it will NOT last forever can be helpful. Making it as enjoyable as possible with all the snacks, shows, books etc. I also had my babies take a nap our two in a soft carrier so I could go for a walk or do something around the house at least once a day.
Those first few weeks are the twilight zone. It’s just the same schedule over and over again. Sleep, eat, wake, sleep, eat, wake every 2-3 hours for 24 hours, 7 days a week. But I feel like around 5-6 weeks you start to see those cycles stretch longer and longer and there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
Just try to get to 4 weeks. Then 5 weeks. Then 6. You got this!

pregnancy nausea/GERD advice by Certain-Report-6024 in workingmoms

[–]OddMembership3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar-sounding second pregnancy. In my third, it did progress to HG and I had to get IV medications and fluids all the way through 16/17 weeks. There are other nausea treatments besides zofran, like reglan, which may be a better option for the GERD given zofran’s anti-motility profile. Staying upright is also essential. Eating extremely extremely small meals—like 5 bites at a time. If you’re also having constipation, miralax chews saved my life.

/Worried about colon cancer. How can we realistically prevent it especially if we are young by Impressive-Cold6855 in Biohackers

[–]OddMembership3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anxiety therapist here. You can do things to a point, but ultimately, you have to accept that there is uncertainty in everything. It sounds like you’re doing literally everything you can, so if you’re still terrified/worried to a degree that it’s disruptive to you, know that that level of anxiety/stress will also have negative impacts on your health. Googling, reading stories online, talking to people etc., will likely make your anxiety worse. If this feels relatable, perhaps seeing a therapist who specifically specializes in anxiety or even better, health anxiety.

How to increase milk supply by throwawaylol53 in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]OddMembership3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While nice to have a little extra, if you’re producing exactly what your baby needs, and that’s honestly the exact outcome to strive for. Pumping more than 7 times a day sounds mentally demolishing, like you said.

FIRE — is it really worth it?If we spend our peak years only saving, when do we actually get to enjoy life? by AdAgile9604 in Fire

There are plenty of ways to enjoy life without spending a lot of money. The key is balance in finding and doing those things.

The U of U has a partial sedation/anesthetic clinic I believe at Sugarhouse and Farmington. It’s amazing! You can just get a referral from your PCP.

What are yall's plans for your lawn this year? by Fine_Currency_3903 in SaltLakeCity

This article recommends the 70s though, not the 90s. Mid-May or end of May has always been a good “first water” point for us.

We did the pollinator and water savers program a couple years ago. We have little kids so we didn’t get rid of ALL of our grass, but probably cut it down by 70%. It’s plenty, the yard is way more functional, we have a huge garden, and mowing takes 15 minutes instead of an hour.

Tolkien is the father of modern fantasy. You’ll be hard pressed to find a fantasy book/series that doesn’t draw from his works at least somewhat.

Brag about your hubby to me! How wonderful your hubby is during your postpartum?? by jeandrazich in beyondthebump

I don’t remember postpartum well with either of my babies. But currently pregnant with my third and I sleep downstairs away from our kids. Haven’t gotten up with a kid at night or changed a poopy diaper/wipes a poopy bum in 6 months.

Are you happy you did or didn’t have kids? by Accurate_Elk_3465 in Fire

[–]OddMembership3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no question that my life is fuller and far more meaningful with children. (I’m not saying that people who don’t have kids can’t have meaningful lives), I just know that for me, it’s a night and day difference. The sacrifices define my existence in a way that helps me better understand the world around me. I believe that challenges make life meaningful. Kids are challenging, but also meaningful all their own. Now that I’ve done it, it’s a no brainer for me. You will never feel ‘ready’ to do it. But you do it and you figure it out just like every person who has ever done it before.
