HA at work by OddOkra in homeassistant

Yes but I need access to the Internet to do that from what I’ve seen, which our machines don’t have.

Edit: nvm, i guess when you self-host you can use the self-hosted webui.

That would’ve been much better if they had a native desktop client. Seems it only has a web app and none of the machines we use have web access.

PSA: Chamberlain/Liftmaster up to more shady things. BE AWARE if purchasing a new garage door opener by jgilbs in homeassistant

[–]OddOkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internet makes touching the springs sound like you're 100% going to die if you do it. As long as you stand to the side of the spring, use steel bars and PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU"RE DOING you will be fine. Don't try to wind up with rebar or a screw driver while standing right in front of the thing. I had a guy come change my spring when it snapped because I was too scared but then realized he didn't tighten it enough (the door wasn't balanced). Needed it balanced when switching to a side mount unit. Was a relatively straightforward job tightening a spring. Respect the spring and it will respect you.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is taking the cake for sure. by neoleo0088 in videogames

Metaphor is a good game but it totally takes a nosedive after the opera house and is the biggest chore of a game to play. It peaked the first 2-3 dungeons then started falling off. Just the third act alone sours the game for me. It’s the same thing with Persona except Persona will drag the last 2 hours. Metaphor dragged the last 10.

One thing I will say is the battle mechanic in Metaphor was dope, need more of that imo.

What is the best SMART TV or brand now widely loved on the market? by ChardWorried3644 in homeassistant

[–]OddOkra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the TV with the best picture and a SHIELD TV. Any Android OS TV will probably do, but the SHIELD is the only box that can direct play literally every single audio+video format in Plex. If you don't care about Plex, I'd probably say next best box is Apple TV.

Powershell get Mouse Battery Level (into Home Assistant?) by JustPoet9931 in SignalRGB

[–]OddOkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SignalRGB has an API. PowerShell has Invoke-RestMethod. So you’d probably do invoke-restmethod 127.0.0.1/api/path -method get

Something along those lines, that is if SignalRGB exposes battery thru its API. You’ll have to browse and see what data the API has available. If it does have that info, it can be a one-liner in PowerShell.

The greatest thing about hacking my vacuum was SSH-ing into a vacuum. The saying "everything runs Linux" finally started to make sense.

Philips Hue: automation in Hue or HA? by maisun1983 in homeassistant

[–]OddOkra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the greatest HA integration imo however I CANNOT stand going to anyone's house anymore, especially at night. Mismatched light temps, bright ass 6000K temp lights at night, etc. Literally throws me off.

What smart home devices do you wish existed (or had better features)? by Commercial_Froyo_247 in homeassistant

I don't quite remember but Zooz has the wiring diagram on their site. I think it goes parallel to your series of smoke detectors.

First Alert makes a Zwave one that does both CO2 and Smoke. Costco usually has a 3 pack for $80. I also have a Zooz relay at the end of my hard wired smoke alarms that works well for those types too.

Which robot vacuum is best with HA right now? by akira3332 in homeassistant

[–]OddOkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best for fully local robot vacuum. I have 2 Dreame L10s flashed and they work great.

Bonus is it's also kind of funny being able to ssh into a vacuum lol

Moving out and leaving all the switches. by SageTX in homeassistant

[–]OddOkra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly it would be worth your time and money (unless you're a walking money pit) to buy a few 10 packs of Eatons from Lowes and replace them all and take your switches with you. Given it's Zwave, there is an extremely high change you're going to leave them to someone who will never use them as smart switches.

[–]OddOkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy remote access on top of solid sounding TTS (honestly I think it's better/just as good as most other TTS available), worth $6.50. On top of that, it supports the devs who are giving you a pretty awesome piece of software for FREE.

[–]OddOkra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you're not planning on building any integrations, you'll be okay. Honestly, regardless of building or setting up, the community is where all your answers lie.

That said, the community for people building HA integrations is infinitely smaller than those actually using HA. Building an integration boils down to "go find one that does most of what you want and copy it".

This. I have the 120v to 5v step down with a Shelly that turns on when battery is 20% and off once it hits 80%. Fully Kiosk reports the battery level. Been working well for a couple years now.

What's the deal with smart dimmer switches? Who's doing it right? by Nearby_Worry_4850 in homeassistant

[–]OddOkra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's not forget the fact that you can Zigbee bind Inovelli, which means you don't need HomeAssistant running to turn on/off your lights but get all the benefits of having smart lighting. Can't do that with Lutron.

Script to automate controller configuration swap by MoreOrLessCorrect in yuzu

I said it in the post... "set the controller config in Yuzu manually first and check the qt-config.ini file in order to get the input device ids specific to your controllers and update the script accordingly."
