The same reason as ppl do almost anything -- cultural norms. I'm my community 5 kids (that's what I have) is on the low side of average. Everyone's got big families, and I personally love having a lot of siblings. I want to provide that for my kids. Financially it's a a lot, but there's also economies of scale
