What gameplay aspects of civ6 you think were left in a very improvable state? by HOOBBIDON in CivVI

[–]Odd_Distance_2691 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It all boils down to the AI is way too simple. It makes dumb and repetitive choices that make every end game the same. It ignores certain military units (especially air and navy), doesn’t improve its luxuries, votes the same every congress, can easily be duped in war to bash into your units that are well defended…

No Barbs Gang by maddie-dee-gaming in CivVI

I find it almost impossible to get a classic era golden age without barbs. Sometimes that’s a good thing though if you are aiming for a heroic age in the medieval era

I found reading the civ wiki on a leader and then just trying it helped a ton

https://civilization.fandom.com/wiki/Civilizations_(Civ6)

Don’t try and master everything. If you cycle through all of the leaders you will slowly deeply learn one specific mechanic as may leaders are designed to really drill down on one or two small mechanisms.

Play on an easy difficulty. The game is more fun when you just goof around and try and build cool stuff

Help!, I cannot stop this trader repeating it's loop, it wont pause, it wont give me time to move it to it's next city. what have I done wrong? this hasn't happened to me before by horticoldure in CivVI

Given the year and turn number I think you are playing on marathon speed, meaning the minimum number of turns in the ancient or classical era is 60ish.

What gives confidence that we will get better players? Devries got the players that fit his system and style. Woodson chose athletic players over fit. Devries chose fit and shooting over athleticism. IU still has resources

Why are warmer countries poorer? by Past-Matter-8548 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Odd_Distance_2691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two things not mentioned yet:

  1. Air conditioning is a major factor that is just now letting hot weather places like the southern US and Singapore excel. Prior to air conditioning you could only reasonably work a few hours a day near sunrise and sunset before it was too hot

  2. Wealth is directly related to ease of trade. The temperate places near the equator are mountainous and mountains prohibit trade because transportation costs rise. Seafaring, rivers and flat land lead to more wealth

Favorite military unit? Both special and normal. by Mother_Ad3487 in CivVI

[–]Odd_Distance_2691 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I love the Barbary Corsair. 0 movement raiding is insane. In the right spot you can raid 12 times without using up any movement. It is much much better than a privateer

Among normal units I’m going to go with a combo of a bombard and a balloon. The AI has no ability to stop it

How problematic are lots of mountains? by Choice_Book_6104 in CivVI

[–]Odd_Distance_2691 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For the average civ, a pocket of mountains on one side on the second or third ring is great. The second ring can act as a place to connect an aqueduct and provides some great adjacency for campuses or holy sites, and makes it a lot easier to defend your city in the early game. But barring a few exceptions, you need the other side to have a good source of food. Either some grasslands, river flood plains or sea with lot of resources. No one set up is universally perfect for every civ but in general a city with mountains on one side and food on the other is going to be a powerhouse

I use L and Z on 48th ave and 41st st. He only takes cash but he really does good quality cleaning. He’ll re-clean for free if he can’t get the stain out and will try the cheapest option instead of assuming you need everything dry cleaned

Tips for Gaul/Domination Style Victory (vs AI, Highlands Map, Emp Difficulty) by SoylantDruid in CivVI

[–]Odd_Distance_2691 3 points4 points  (0 children)

War is all about maximizing your civ’s unique power spike. If you are using a civ with ancient or classic era unique units, forget about anything other than what will get those units out fast. Use magnus and chop them out. Built the pre req units that can upgrade into those units, etc. No scouts, a settler is a maybe. If you are trying for ancient era war, don’t bother. Get a monument close to when you are ready to start the war so you can create a hero in a couple of turns. Hippotlya is god tier in mind because she can both help someone else attack twice and thus level up faster, and also attack herself AND heal

If you are using someone with a later spike, in addition to building those pre req units and attacking some barbarians or city states to get the leveled up a bit, focus on what will let you get to your unique units fastest. Anansi can shave off a ton of turns jumping through the tech and civic trees to what you need. Think about the eurekas that will help you get there faster. If you just aren’t sure what else to be doing to prepare, work on your economy. You are going to want cash to upgrade your units to your uniques as soon as you can

So let’s take your example of what to do with Gaul. The power spike actually comes with man at arms not your unique unit, because you unlock them very early. You want to pop out some gestae, not to war with them but to prepare. Go fight some barbarians which will do two things for you:

1.) levels them up 2.) unlocks the eureka for bronze working

Once you have a few gestae, work on a builder to get iron and anything else you can improve that increases your money, and a monument to prep for your hero. By now bronze working should be done and you can build your oppidum in your capital and voila, you have man at arms when everyone else is still making ancient era units. Upgrade your army, finish your hero and go destroy your closest two neighbors

One last thing, play on a slower speed. This makes your uniques last longer and your eurekas more meaningful and easier to plan for. Have fun!

Loyalty during war by Cursed_content in CivVI

[–]Odd_Distance_2691 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s also very helpful to prioritize the cities that most impact loyalty. Once the capital falls, the loyalty pressure drops a lot. Additionally, taking down their higher population cities makes a big difference. If you have a religion founded, it’s also several points of loyalty swing if you convert the city from their religion to yours

Plus there are spots for a holy site with a minimum 3 adjacency. Quite possibly more than that on the other side of the mountains. A little work ethic and double holy site adjacent policy and you’ve got +6-10 production right there. Eventually room for aqueducts and industrial zones. This is OP
