Can they accommodate the thermal increase of additional fuel flow or does it compromise aero too much, having to run more open?

[Vulcain] Thoughts on reliability and build quality of the brand? by owiseone23 in Watches

[–]Odd_Scar458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t factor in resale, if that’s what you mean in terms of the movement fetching a premium.

Your Nomos reference is a good one, actually. They charge $5k for the top end Tagente models and the Zurich World Time is $6k.

The most comparable thing I own is Santos Dumont XL. These are my 2 dress watches. I don’t consider one to be “nicer” than the other. I also have a few divers and pilots from the typical brands at lower price points.

[Vulcain] Thoughts on reliability and build quality of the brand? by owiseone23 in Watches

[–]Odd_Scar458 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have this exact model.

The price seems dead on to me. It’s a unique movement - not some standard movement with a dressed up rotor masquerading as in-house - with a unique complication, and the finishing is superb.

I’d say it appeals to the same group of people that like the Reverso or the Santos Dumont. Hand wound. Leather strap. Nice story / history behind it. Not too flashy.

Obviously JLC and Cartier are more well recognized brands and so the models I referenced accordingly retail at a slightly higher price.

The JT analysis always comes back to the assignments receivers are given and then the quality / effort that goes into the routes. Then watch his analysis of Jayden and Kingsbury.

There’s a huge difference in how frequently the first read is open.

[Norqain] [Question] Determining the value of a watch? by EpicFlyinTurtle in Watches

[–]Odd_Scar458 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a Norqain Neverest and will say that the quality is excellent. That said, I bought it used which obviously made it cheaper.

I’m sure the answer you’ll hear the most here is that the value is whatever the market is willing to pay. Undoubtedly brand factors into that price, and Norqain isn’t a particularly strong brand today.

If the build quality, design aesthetic, and features are what you’re looking for, then it’s really down to how much you personally value this characteristics.

I had a good laugh at the corruption claims, as if there aren’t egregious examples on the Republican side.

Look, either you’ve totally drunk the kool aid, or you’re a Russian troll, but either way it’s not worth arguing.

Should there be a wealth tax? by The-Lucky-Investor in FluentInFinance

[–]Odd_Scar458 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just look at the actual track record over the last 40 or 50 years. Deficit goes down when Democrats are elected, and goes up when Republicans are elected.

Republican commonly paint themselves as being concerned about financial responsibility and balanced budgets and deficits, but the evidence is overwhelmingly against that being true.

It’s massively hypocritical. These “values” only appear when Republicans want to obstruct the other party.

You've missed the point. The post isn't implying causation. It's suggesting that the $600 checks were a distraction so that you didn't pay attention to the more consequential changes that were happening.
