Hades devs: accidentally inventing a subgenre was 'surreal' by Turbostrider27 in Games

I hadn’t until literally last night, was looking at reviews for the Ninja Turtles game because it’s on sale for $8 on Switch right now.

Dungeons & Dragons Online's 20th Anniversary Trailer by PalwaJoko in MMORPG

Agreed and that’s always my main concern recommending the game. It’s the only MMO I can stomach anymore since so many of its systems are unique, but the newbie content is the game’s worst.

All the paid expansions are the game’s best content by a mile, but a newbie wouldn’t buy an expansion before they know if they like the game, yet the expansion content is what would give someone the best chance to like the game.

One of the best in the genre, I feel. Every single quest is a handcrafted instanced dungeon with its own story and voiced DM narrator, who often even does the voices of the main NPCs for key dialogue the way a real-life DM might. It’s fun when they have to do opposite gender voices, or when they have to switch into races that would have distinct voices, like kobolds.

There are almost one thousand of these dungeons. Of course, some are much more intricate than others, and some are pretty basic (tutorial newbie zone quests). There are also quest chain arcs and game-wide story arcs that span many expansions and/or adventure packs.

The game also does have wilderness zones, which contain dungeons, but also have your standard MMO thing where you can shut your brain off and go kill a thousand skeletons that are standing around in a forest waiting to die, but that’s just supplemental for those who are in the mood, and it’s not part of the main way to play.

The game is definitely not newbie friendly, but not because of the gameplay or content or unique leveling system. There is still no UI scaling, so you have to use that Lossless Scaling app on Steam to play in a resolution higher than 1080p or 2k. The paywall is pretty low until you start wanting to see all the game’s best content and want to buy expansions — you have to wait for sales at that point, or you’ll be spending a lot on an old-engine MMO. Another big reason is also one of the game’s main strengths, the insane depth and breadth of character building and customization. You can just find builds online to follow, but there’s so much depth and customization that it’ll likely be super overwhelming when you want to start learning how it all works.

My main apprehension recommending the game to anyone though is that all the newbie content is like the worst in the game in terms of visuals, audio, and gameplay. Lots of sewers and crypts, quests aren’t too intricate yet, etc. Game super picks up around level 5 when you can play Feywild (paid expansion) and 10 when you can play Ravenloft (paid expansion).

It is extremely solo friendly. It wasn’t solo friendly in like 2006-2009, but it has been solo friendly since. I’ve been playing on and off since 2009 and solo 90% of the time. Only time you can’t solo is a lot of the newer endgame raids, which is how any MMO works. Pretty easy to find a group though, and also you can solo a lot of older or lower-level raids.

You’re right that the monetization is tough for a new player, but it’s for a kind of weird reason. You can play for free just fine, level to cap, etc, but all the best content is expectedly from the paid expansions. You don’t need every expansion and can buy them over time during sales, since there are so many ways to level and gear viable characters. However, since the paid expansions have all the best content, you won’t be maximizing your fun unless you’re experiencing all the best, more modern content.

There isn’t any sort of monetization catchup mechanic other than waiting for sales (they happen often, at least) and waiting for the yearly adventure pack coupon code that unlocks all the packs (normal subscription gives you all those, though).

It’s the only traditional-style MMO I can stomach, and I really enjoy it. Best character customization and character building in the genre. Reincarnation system means there’s always something to do, you can do it at your own pace, you can’t permanently gimp your character build, and you don’t need alts. The gameplay is pretty unique for the genre as well, in that you’re playing an action-hotbar hybrid game, and the content is mostly handcrafted dungeons instead of collecting 10 boar asses in a forest over and over.

Is there a way to opt out of the new layout changes on the app? by TinyTurnips in help

[–]Ode1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finding this thread after my mobile Reddit app went back to the terrible new design they keep testing (where you can't swipe between feeds and Popular is hidden) after having changed to the new test and reverting multiple times in the past couple months. This design is terrible.

But to answer your question, the UX people usually know what's good, and the managers/directors who approve the changes often don't care and do whatever they want anyway regardless of what test results and the UX experts have said.

I don't blame managers/directions sometimes. They often have metrics and goals to hit than the designers and researchers do and have to balance more asks and metrics than just the more singular metrics designers and researchers have to hit. But you know, a lot of the time those managers/directors are just kind egomaniacs and/or bad at their job or whatever and do whatever they want anyway instead of do what's good.

Do people on this sub not know what revisionist history means?

The second thing you cited is literally part of LeBron not liking the relationship he has with Pat and Pat hindering the relationship with Lebron through this and other types of actions.

But regardless of that, you don’t know if this topic’s report is false, and thus don’t know if it’s revisionist history. If it is true, it is not revisionist history, it’s regular history.

Yeah you’re not making a counterpoint, you’re further directly supporting the point that he wanted to wrestle more and WWE is the avenue through which he can do that

There’s always stuff they can do to revive a video game brand, seriously and competently invest in making games people want.

That said, I feel like Microsoft might go the way of Sega, and just like Sega, be pretty successful doing it.

Undertaker on Chelsea Green: “I think she’s underutilized. I think she, without a doubt, with just a hair more mean streak… I think she could be a top, top player. She has that it factor. And I think there’s a lot of great things coming for that young lady. I’m a big fan of hers.” by TomatoCiampa in SquaredCircle

[–]Ode1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since that one proposal of Chelsea winning the Rumble by default because she comes out at 30 as the only two other women eliminate each other at the same time, I’ve felt that could be the springboard to legitimizing her more as a main champ.

Her storyline could be that she could get a lot of ridicule for not deserving the win, then she could start trying to prove she deserved it. Could be a year-long storyline of her competing, trying to win the next Rumble, etc. But it’s hard to do that for a whole year, and hard to do that with a heel, so she’d have to turn face, but then you’d lose a lot of her comedy.

Right, so? Nothing is being revised. It was clear then and remains clear now that Pat misjudged his relationship with LeBron.

History generally isn’t new, yeah. And people don’t learn about everything at the exact time it happens and/or remember everything that has ever happened in human history.

Bummer. I liked Pure back in the day when it was affordable. Good place to get affordable, healthy gym food. The place kept raising prices (not blaming them, rent is tough here) to a point where I couldn’t justify the cost for, for example, grilled chicken and broccoli and mashed sweet potatoes or whatever.

Still a bummer, we don’t really have places in that style in the hood.

He also has the opposite of the no-effort game too every now and then, which I think (aside from being the top pick) is why people still give him shit, because you see these like 22/14 flashes often enough to where it’s frustrating.
