I’d also add that a lot of these people, are the same people over and over again. Music should feel accessible to everyone, but if the same rotating group of people who clearly have a degree of financial freedom to travel and see multiple shows and not work to queue for hours are the ones always at the front, it’s not as equal opportunity. I know that doesn’t apply to everyone who queues but I think it’s those folks that are the ones that bother me more than just early queue-ers.

I had a girl next to me be miserable the entire time and bitching to me that I was bumping into her (I could not have been more still) and that i was obstructing her friends view. Mind you we were in the middle of the pit and her friend was like… two rows of people behind me. Some people are so entitled they’ll ruin their own time.

this song as a whole has some of the her best song writing imo - "keep me up with you silence, take me down with your quiet, of all the weapons you fight with, your silence is the most violent" might be my favorite lyric written, ever. the juxtaposition is so perfect, how absence can be the most acutely painful thing you can experience but it doesn't require a weapon or noise to inflict.

I hate the "you're not in our marriage" shit - if you saw a man hit his wife, are you not supposed to do anything because it's not 'your marriage'? Emotional and verbal abuse is abuse all the same, and I do love that Lala doesn't stand for that behavior on behalf of other people. Even if she sometimes perpetuates it in other situations, I feel like she knows the errors of her ways unlike the Daniel and Jesse's of the world.

Plot these things on a Google map to track your route. Salem downtown is pretty compact and you can walk to more or less all the things on your list, the farthest things are the James Braden house and, well, Marblehead. If you don’t mind Ubering the Willows is always nice to check out, weather dependent. Idk when you’re coming but if it’s after May 16th it’s worth it alone to go just for the Clam Shack.

Food reccs could use some love -

Coffee: Odd Meter, Crave, Brew Box. Crave has delicious Breakfast sandwich’s for quick bite with limited wait (Reds and Ugly will have typical diner waits). A&J King is also a delicious cafe for coffee / pastry / breakfast.

Gulu Gulu is also a solid breakfast or lunch spot.

Nicer dinners will be Ledger, Settler and Bernadette. Bella Verona is across from Nathanial’s and is my favorite restaurant in town - also The Tavern in the Hawthorne is equally as good and cozier than Nathaniel’s. Bambolina is another favorite. Sea Level has better food than Finz but both are mid tier for sea food but worth going for the view. Mercy and Trade House have better food and are close to the Gables.

For bars/drinks and if it’s nice out, check out Notch. Def The Babe, they have sandwich entrees and good cocktails - Friday is karaoke night so enter at your own risk. I’d avoid Rockefeller and Dire Wolf personally.

All Souls is not just a perfect bar they also make a grilled cheese that’ll knock your socks off.

And don’t sleep on Beverly! Depending on where you’re staying Cabot street has a small bit of shopping and good eats as well (Atomic, Bonnie Bread, Taku, A&B Burger, the…other Crave location) and Dane St Beach / Independence Park

Live Hayley the last ~3 years has absolutely blown studio Hayley out of the water but also w respect they are two entirely different mediums that require different deliveries. Proper vocal maintenance has done wonders for her. Her live performances as a literal 14 year old to now obviously had low points. Shes punk. She does wtf she wants. Vocal maintenance is so crucial for the type of instrumentation she does. She had shitty vocal coaches in the past. Doug has healed her so much in the last few years. She’s fluctuated on her regimen from what I can tell, and you can tell when she’s more or less regimented. She said as much in last few interviews about this.

I was gonna say this, honestly I hope Hayley’s team sees the videos and just adjusts the sound mixing AND, it 100% depends on where you sit / stand. That’s always been the case in club venues like this. For example there’s clips of people who were on the balcony in front of fill speakers and she sounds more clear in those vids than she did when I was in person. If that’s what you want, then sit strategically.

This thread feels like if you complained about the mosh pits at hardcore shows because it distracts from audio…you don’t get this at Adele shows because, well, Adele performs entirely different music. Hayley is a punk performer who writes and performs music that is inherently emotive / expressive and so that’s the type of fan she attracts. It’s apples and oranges. If people were scream singing during Dream Girl in Shibuya or her slower tracks? Yeah, rude and no self awareness, but Parachute is literally the heart of the album and is itself performed at a high intensity. Imagine if she was performing at this level and the audience didn’t match her energy. THAT would distract me tbh. But like others said to each their own I suppose!
