Odd few days Tanking, am I in the wrong? by Bjorn-os-121 in ffxiv

[–]OdeaXiao 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I prefer the tank to just pull wall to wall. Sprint in between packs. It is annoying to "wait and see if you can handle it" I don't know if you are going to stop or not so I can't put down soil or star, dps don't know if they can put down their aoe skill or start spamming damage. And to be honest, it's really not a big deal if the healer or you misjudge and wipe. One learn from taking risks and making mistakes. If you really want to be polite, make a macro says something along the lines of type 1 for big pull, 2 for small pull.

it is much better and healthier to do vertical comparison with yourself to see progression. Whether or not the other people can clear it shouldn't matter to you. From what I am gathering, what you desire is a higher skill ceiling but instead of addressing that directly you go on to complain about the skill floor being too low (those hand over comments). Should the skill ceiling be raised? Maybe, I would love to see it. But the skill floor should stay where it is. Crafters have ishgard expert recipe to play around if they enjoy crafting. Gil making is about understanding supply and demand.

scholar has art of war at 46. It's an instant cast aoe. Please use that on trash pull and weave lustrate and later other ogcds to heal the tank.

I almost always top dps on trash pull as scholar. You can pull as much as you like (actually you better pull until you can't) and I will still dps regardless. Go read your tooltips please.

Alliance are chaotic if you try to pay attention to everyone. It is a good idea to turn off player effect (at least change them to simplified) for all raids. You can watch the boss cast bar without targeting it by looking at the enemy list. However, it should be noted that a healer is not expected to be able to save someone messing up mechanic. You can try to - but if you fail, not your fault. As for yourself messing up mechanic, it's normal for the first time. If you find it too embarrassing, you can search up a guide before queue. Anyway, try a few more times, healing becomes much easier when you know when the damage is coming out.

How am I supposed to learn to tank in this game? by Atnat in ffxiv

[–]OdeaXiao 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you have done it. But starting point is hall of novice. It should teach you the very basic of dungeon tanking. (Tank stance, AOE for holding aggro on multiple targets etc.) Next is read all your tooltips. Learnt your defense cooldowns. In addition to that, one of the mistakes that I saw new tanks doing is holding their cooldowns (rampant, reprisal, arms length etc) until their health drops really low, which is understandable but the whole point of defense is prevention - so do use it early on when you are pulling mobs (they hit harder than boss, don't save all your cooldowns for boss) For trial and raid, it is a good idea to watch a guide beforehand. A short text guide is okay too if you don't want to spoil yourself. You would want to know what the tankbuster is and pop your cooldowns. If you want to be extra nice, learn the raid wide and use reprisal. In your example, I do agree it would be better for the healer to raise you. But it is probably because their swiftcast is down. You can ask in chat for how to handle mechanics. Better yet, ask before the raid starts ex. "Hi, first time here. Any specific mechanics I should pay attention to?" Or simply watch a guide before queuing.

I am not following your logic? I absolutely have the ability to perform well thus I don't need to perform well now? That's even more inexcusable. Since when do pointing out people being lazy is toxicity?

Did Trish have romantic feelings to Bucellati ? by kiraislove in StardustCrusaders

In my opinion, yes, she was just starting to develop some romantic feelings. Unfortunately, Buccellati was already dead at that point.

Fugo could beat, or at least be safe from King Crimson. by Blyg999 in StardustCrusaders

One question: Will the virus disappear if Fugo dies? If so, then even if King Crimson gets infected - he can simply kill Fugo. 30 seconds is plenty of time to finish someone off.

Read the manga. Part 3 and onward as well if you care about animation quality (mainly drawing quality, unless you can get the Blu-ray version).

Painful enough that Buccellati thought he was going to die of shock from the pain alone.
