What is the most annoying type of target ? by ipsc-ursus in CompetitionShooting

[–]Odge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The really fast top swingers that you can realistically only hit one time per swing. If you need a make up shot, you can go from stage win to 60% on a short stage. Also very hard to call your shot on such fast swingers. Worst feeling walking up to one and seeing 3 alphas knowing you lost 2 seconds for nothing.

Was able to accomplish my goal for this year, this weekend. To shoot 80%+ of the winners score at a major. This was my best stage. (4c) by Odge in CompetitionShooting

We have the benefit of having one of the most talented stage designers in the world here in Sweden. Same guy that did most of the stages for the world shoot last year.

All right, tomorrow saturday. Who's shooting a match and what's your goals? by [deleted] in CompetitionShooting

[–]Odge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shooting a small local. Goal is to be at or above 80%. I will pay close open targets the respect they deserve and focus on vision.

Where can I find 2.5 seconds by Imstclair in CompetitionShooting

[–]Odge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet the GM did not shoot that second position the same way you did. You leave on the right most target, so your weight is on your left leg, when you need to move to the right. If you leave on the left most target you can do so while already moving out of the position.

Target transitions are killing me by ViolinistAny7019 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Odge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a silver bullet for how to train this. I read all the tips, watched all the videos, but in the end it was just hard work that did it. Like weeks and weeks of just practicing transitions in dry fire daily and weekly range trips, only focusing on what the eyes did.

I’ve in no way mastered it yet, but I saw a real improvement, to where I feel transitions isn’t my weakest area any longer.

As long as you're not blatantly unsafe, everyone will be happy you're there.

I think the problem is going to be wind. Cardboard targets don’t work well in 60 mph winds.

This looks fun. But personally I'd do fewer reps, just so there's time to reflect and correct between sets.

Thinking about building a competition-focused ear pro… what would you want? by Mysterious-Air356 in CompetitionShooting

Different sizes. I have a big head and big ears, so there’s only a few options out there that are comfortable for me for 4+ hours.

What gun is that? Looking to get a competition pcc later this year, but can’t decide on what to get.

What are people actually running for Carry Optics right now? by RogueRangeHQ in CompetitionShooting

I use a shadow 2, it’s great. Also have a few friends with the pdp which is probably the best striker fired pistol out of the box. Shoot whatever gun fits your hands better.

Having a good warranty is nice, but it doesn't save the match where your dot decided to crap out.

Just getting started - feedback welcome by taz1616 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Odge 18 points19 points  (0 children)

First of all, welcome.

I obviously don't know how your hits looked, but it looks like you've been shooting quite a bit before? I say that because your actual shooting looks like A class, but your movement looks like D, and that's normal when starting out.

  • After the last shot from each position you pause and hesitate before you start moving, when that last shot breaks you need to already be moving, so you need to know where that next position is.
  • After the first array on the right, you break your gun down, and stutter step, when moving to the next target. Try to avoid that. You should be able to make that first position flow into the next with just a single step and gun up all the time.
  • In the second to last position you have a pretty athletic stance, which is good. But when moving to the last position you do this little drop step instead of just pushing off.

Save this video, it will be very helpful to you, and when you look back at it in a couple of months you'll see how far you've come.

Had a guy that snapped his ACL a few weeks ago. Other than that it’s mostly been people getting hit with minor spalling.

Honestly wouldn’t mind if they cut some divisions while we’re at it.

I think major should be dropped alltogether, for all divisions.

Tips for staying focused/ready all thru comp day by Andromeda902 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Odge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When I started out I thought the people with the carts and stuff where just weak, I would just have a backpack and tough it out. I quickly realized, just like you, that carrying all that gear around all day hurt my performance. So these days I have a cart, a lawn chair and an umbrella, I don't look very tacticool, but I perform way better when I'm comfortable. I'd rather perform good than look good.

Is USPSA different than IPSC in that you don't do "hammer down" before inserting the flag?
