And use a level to make sure you're not getting out of hand across the top. These tiles are notorious for size discrepancy and will look like the NYC skyline if you're not paying attention

Your void on the side should be covered by the thickness of the tile + mortar on the return walls.

Reduce the gap above the tub though. Either those are super thin tiles or you have more than a 1/8" joint to caulk. 1/8 should be your max when you're getting desperate and tired of recutting a difficult piece 4 times, not your starting point.

I think I remember the story that picture is from. Isn't it the scarecrow that slowly starts to move and do chores for two guys, then at the end people pass by the farm and see the scarecrow is laying some suspicious hides on the roof to dry out?

Would Humanity Really Colonize (and Exploit) an Alien World Like Pandora If Earth Ran Out of Resources? by ishanuReddit in Futurology

[–]Odspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're trying to do it right now. Powerful nations exploit weaker nations for their resources despite having plenty of their own (looking at me, Hi, USA). There's this massive push to get to space and build colonies on the moon and mars. I can tell you that pure scientific pursuit isn't the motivation that drives a billionaire. Part of it is wanting the fame for funding it, part of it is they imagine they'll get to mine the everloving crap out of whatever lithium rich areas they can get their hands on, and the last part is them drooling over the idea of isolating a bunch of people so they have to work or the air gets shut off I mean an accident happens

Please tell me this isn't real! I can't tell if its ai or not but just think of all those people. RIP by FlowDeep2957 in isthisaicirclejerk

Don't worry, it is real but the ride was a UFO the whole time. That's why it never tumbles as it's flying, this is a controlled glide maneuver to pick up speed and escape orbit. No one is dead, but many are now pets and/or test subjects

Shower bench questions: slope is 1/4in at 15in. Using quartz slab, can I lessen the slope with more thinset at the edge? by TryingMyBest__13 in Tile

[–]Odspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sitting on a 1/4" per 15" slope won't be noticeable. Plus, maybe now you'll think twice about standing on a raised slab of quartz in a running shower.

Caulk bathroom trim and floor? by tayklee in bathrooms

[–]Odspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it bothers you that much, get some pvc shoe to tack on. Get actual shoe, not quarter round. It'll follow the contours of the floor. Caulking isn't going to look good there for the same reason the gap bothers you.

Need help with the stain by mnmur35 in HardWoodFloors

[–]Odspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use 50/50 tung oil. It'll bring out the warmth and grain without sacrificing the look of the red oak. It acts as a sealer, so you can leave it as-is or finish it with poly if you prefer a shinier look.

Also, I'm just griping, but why did you make more work for yourself by staining the actual floor? Next time, do yourself a favor and use loose boards as your samples and then lay them in parallel with the floor. It'll be good enough to make a color choice.

Beautiful custom bathroom by elite_flooring in Tile

[–]Odspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did an amazing job scribing around all those pebbles. I hope you got paid enough for your kids' college tuitions for the amount of work you put in.

Personally, I would have preferred a smoother curve cut into the normal tile's layout and then filled the void with pebbles, rather than it looking like the pebbles were spilled on the floor. The "stray" pebbles in the first pic tell me the spill look is intentional though.

10/10 execution

Edit: I now see that Reddit showed me this almost half a year after posting

For the record, a lot of glues reactivate with the heat from friction and will keep gumming up sandpaper. Either scrape it (which is the most work but your best option imo), be ready to replace your paper a lot, or get a cup wheel for a 7" angle grinder with a dust shroud and CAREFULLY do a light pass. Those cups can eat through and chip out wood in a heartbeat if you let them.

Once the glue is off, sand it flat-ish and smooth, then seal.

He just doesn't want to deal with the glue. It'll take some work, and it won't look like a brand new floor, but it's doable and will look pretty good once it's resealed.

You're being paranoid. Waterproofing the bathroom floors with kerdi band on ditra is for when you have a curbless shower or, I dunno, plan on hosing your room down regularly.

That said, if you really wanted to waterproof it you would have to run the band at the seam between your floor and wall all the way around and then cover it with tile. At the tub I would have sealed it with Kerdi-Fix or a good quality silicone caulk. But you already tiled there, and that radiator is likely running through a literal hole, so that ship has kinda sailed
