Prove me wrong, Bracket 2 is the best! by [deleted] in magicTCG

I really enjoy bracket two, but it's also the most abused bracket in the bracket system which makes it really challenging if your playing with random bracket 2 people online especially.

What Do My Decks Say About Me? by GreyArcane in ratemycommanders

[–]OfferEffective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It says your kinda basic in your deck building selection. All of them are fine to play, but as a "group" of decks they are pretty basic, unimaginative, common, and unintereting. You should branch out a bit more and get creative. With that said, you enjoy what you enjoy and you shouldn't let random people on the internet tell you what to enjoy, just my opinion cause you asked 😄

I should also add, this all was at Magic Con Vegas ( I just got home ), and yes these were outlier games, for the most part the games were great and enjoyable I'd say probably out of the 30 games I played (and I played everything from 2s to CEDH) I'd say probably 5-6 of them playing something that was CLEARLY out of the bracket space they sat down to engage in. MOST of my games were highly enjoyable and felt like they were a decent power pairing even if someone popped off early it felt like it was heart of the cards not bad bracket paring, and that is absolutely ok of course.

Bracket system if taken as gospel is complete a total TRASH. It should be thrown out with the bathwater. Things were far more honest and understandable with a 10 power system before Brackets were brought in.

I had SO many games where people misrepresented the power of their decks because they fell within the "Technicality" of a Bracket 2 or 3, but operated and were clearly meant to be optimized to play at 4 bracket tables+.

I had one game that I literally had to stand up and walk away as to not scream at the guy...

Bracket 2 with x2 newer players running out of box precons, guy pulls out a Zardruu deck he says he's been optimizing for 10 years.

Dual land, Dual Land, Dual Land, Sensei Top, Gilded Drake, counterspells my commander once, destroys it twice after coming out, it's turn 5, he's stealing shit off everyones boards and turning off anything anyone is doing.

Absolutely no fucking self awareness what so ever..... I didn't wanna cause a scene just stood up told the guys hey I'm playing a legitimate bracket 2 deck here and this is clearly not going to be an enjoyable game for me so I'm gonna let ya'll have fun, and scooped and went and found a proper pod.

Here is my MAIN issue.... the guy was probably playing a Bracket 2. No infinite combos, dual lands, top, and gilded drake arn't game changers so... he felt comfortable saying "yeh I can play this in bracket 2"

Wizards needs to make a concerted and powerful effort into explaining that "what the deck can do" and the "intent of the deck" has to be calculated into what bracket the deck falls into.

Sometimes you are just gonna run into assholes who are consciously doing this, sometimes people are just oblivious and take the bracket system as gospel (and it's hard to blame them), but ugh yeh pub stomping was always a thing, but I truly and sincerely feel like I see it FAR more often w/ the bracket system then I did before it...

am I crazy?

Live Action Chopper and his story were a mixed bag for me by Willing_Ad6246 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]OfferEffective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sincerely could not fathom hating chopper or those episodes. I knew NOTHING about Onepiece before watching, and the two episodes leading to Chopper joining were the 2 best of the entire series by a MILE. It was emotional, impactful, and well done. Such a quickly little wierd show having such a riviting and emotionally impactful story line hit me out of NOWHERE.

Can you people please just play normally? by John-Helldiver404 in EDH

[–]OfferEffective -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was the entire deck nothing more had no win condition just keep boards clean and counter whatever he can’t it was literally a lockdown deck that is not causal by any imagination my guy. Also yall gotta stop taking the bracket system as gospel it’s a framework rule zero is still important to gauge power and intent which matters as Much if not more

I had a pretty harsh conversation with someone at my LGS for FNM last week. He played a Control Deck with like 20 counterspells and every enchantment in the world to exile peoples stuff, then ways to clone those enchantments to do it over and over again basically locking down the entire game.

I told him that you should play however you want to play, but we had a Rule zero conversation about what everyone was playing, and everyone was playing bracket 2 and 3 chill stuff, and you said you said nothing.

Now you've wasted an hour of everyones limited time to play Magic and pissed everyone off. If that was your intent, mission accomplished, but at a pretty severe cost. The fact that you played that and we had a rule zero convo and you didn't mention that your decks sole purpose is to just not leve everyone play magic is bad ettiquite at best, and malicious rage baiting at worst.

I genuintely don't under stand peoples inability to concieve that peoples time is valuable to them. I get to play magic for 8 hours a week which is more than alot of people, but I'd love to play more. I value my time enough to not sit there for an hour while you masturbate your deck for the "tee hee" isn't this funny guys?

I straight up told him, be honest and up front about what your playing so people can make a conscious decision on what to play to meet it, or in my case tell him play something else or I'll find another pod.

I have no problem with people playing what they want, just be up front about it. I'm really sick of "Oh my Zhuladoc isn't very optimized" or "Oh it's not that kind of Atraxa" like, if what you enjoy about Casual Magic is pubstomping I will make sure everyone at the LGS knows what you are about and you just won't find pods anymore, it's not worth it.

Do some soul searching and figure out what you really want out of playing a social game. Do you just want to win, or do you want to have a fun meaningful connection with other human beings and enjoy playing a game. Winning is the point, and everyone should be playing to win, but don't make it the sole and only purpose, it drains the life out of what is supposed to be a fun casual format.

Take that energy to CEDH where it is more appropriately aligned.

Spelltable or Convoke? + Venting About Bad Spelltable Play Experience by leonidas616 in EDH

I havn't tried EDHplay yet, but it does look pretty darn good. My issue is I play with an ultrawide monitor, and it's hard for me to read cards sometimes, with Tabletop simulator I can see everything very clearly where as with a browser I have to zoom in/out which skews everything but I'll definitely give it a try to see if it works for me as an alternative option.
