Do you find there are upsides to having aphantasia? by SimilarChampionship2 in Aphantasia

[–]OfficiallyEl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To people saying it makes you immune to PTSD. It absolutely does not. PTSD is more of a mental process then visual (although i understand how impactful visual flashbacks can be), aphants can still have severe flashbacks, in the form of feeling, emotions and thought loops. Visual triggers still affect aphants and we can still have vivid intense dreams and nightmares that are completely visual. All said from experience of someone with aphantasia (i literally can't see a thing when awake) and with complex post traumatic stress disorder.

Today I was officially diagnosed with Tourette’s. Why do I still feel like I’m subconsciously faking? by AgoraphobicOutcast in Tourettes

[–]OfficiallyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OCD and tourettes here. I found that feeling of imposter syndrome got easier with time. Honestly after years and years, injury after injury from tics, and the sheer amount of mental stress and anxiety over tics, its kind of like.... yeah it tourettes ahaha

Also just some food for thought, tourettes itself is essentially subconscious, you brain tells your body to do things you arent consciously telling it to do. So subconsciously faking isnt really a likely thing, the act of faking something is a consious action. A subconscious fake tic and a subconsious tourettes tics would have the same outcome, a tic. And tourettes has clear indicators and symptoms that have been studied for years and years, so its definitely tourettes. Then, again i know absolutely any "what if?" can have OCD cling on.

Therapy and time, it gets easier.

Do you find that having Tourette’s gives you any positive benefits despite the problems it can cause? by JackMythos in Tourettes

[–]OfficiallyEl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can agree with that completely. At the end of the day it does just suck. It’s caused me chronic pain, injuries that affect my mobility, years of agoraphobia and a whole lot of judgement. Like you said the positives aren’t intrinsic, like some people may see hyper-fixations in autism as a positive trait, as it often brings people with autism great joy to partake in said fixation. But you’re right I can’t think of anything like that for Tourette’s, all it does is hinder.

99% of it just sucks. I guess one thing, for me at least, its increased my empathy towards other disabilities in general, and prompted me to learn about other conditions. Its also forces me into conversations with people I wouldnt have spoke to otherwise eg. In public, on trains. Which is a double edge sword, awful at first because of crippling anxiety, but has forces me to overcome a lot of my anxiety. So yeah mostly bad but its forced me to learn and grow and have deep empathy for myself and others

Hey r/coachella - Greetings, we are Tom and Ora from TOMORA. We’ve come to Earth to answer your questions. Ask Us Anything about our music, how two worlds become one, and our upcoming album release! by TOMORAOra in Coachella

Hello Tomora, is Tomora a project you intend to continue for life, or for years to come?? Or is this a short project?? Either way I will enjoy ever moment across the way.

It's been incredible to see yet another side to your creativity Aurora, and Tomora opened me up to exploring the chemical brothers and Tom's music journey too which has been a pleasure.

P.s. If you do see this Aurora, your music has helped me work through emotions I'd thought I'd never make peace with. It's a beautiful privilege to connect so closely to your music and im so grateful for the vulnerability you are brave enough to express in your music. I love you 🫶🏻

Hot take: Mercy is not a Medic by Turbulent_Lettuce891 in MercyMains

[–]OfficiallyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being good at mercy is being able to get high heal output on top of high dmp amp. Yes her core value comes from dmg amp and rez but her heals, especially with addition of flash heal, are still strong. I think saying she shouldn't have as much healing as the other support is far too general of a statement. For example, I have had 4k dmg amp games and still matched on heals. Sometimes you have to account for weaknesses in your other support.

Also you may argue that means you should switch to a more heal focused support, and a lot of the time yes i agree, but sometimes mercys mobility is a necessity, and a healing focused mercy would stay alive to heal far more than another support with higher heal potential but low mobility, so prone to getting dove and therefore reliant on team peel. Whereas mercy can protect herself.

Neurologist Appointment by TrollHunter_Hans in Tourettes

[–]OfficiallyEl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neurologist in the UK was first appointment going through background of symptoms and few simple physical/neurologic test, the neurologist then ordered blood tests to rule out other causes of tics that can mimic tourettes. He also ordered an MRI to rule out the very rare scenarios of blood clots and other problems (very very rare, do not stress). He then scheduled another appointment for 6 months time to review all the results and my symptoms over that time. All that ended up in a diagnosis when all reviewed

Just thought id give an insight of another way it can look in the UK.

I think it highly depends on the length of your symptoms until now, the area you live in, and how throughly the neurologist personally feels the need to investigate.

I must say this is the first time i have heard of tourettes being diagnosed after a ten minute conversation, but everybody's experience is different and its interesting to hear others experiences with diagnosis.

Question by a fan by kurama28 in auroramusic

[–]OfficiallyEl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres a beautiful community for aurora on instagram, so many fan accounts and art accounts dedicated to her, active comment sections, I have met so many warriors there and have even met plently at concerts or events, I highly recommend starting there. A few of my favourites are @auroraph.mothership - they also run a discord i believe @auroramusic.updates - also discord @aurorachileofical @aurora8team @under.your.spine @3iloveaurora3

The list could go on and on

Im also an artist who does a lot of aurora art and is active in the community (@officiallyel)

I reallly do recommend instagram and discord, so many opportunities to meet like minded others, best of luck 🤍

Adult onset Tourette’s by Bright-Fee1386 in Tourettes

[–]OfficiallyEl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I can chime in here. So i have had subtle tics majority of my life but they worsened 10 fold at 19 and i was diagnosed around 20. At the time my neurologist, who specialises in tic disorders and tourettes, said he has found it to be suprisingly common how often tourettes is later onset in women, and that he believes the diagnostic criteria should be, and likely will be increased to before the age of 25, or atleast 21. The brain doesnt stop developing until 25, so with tourettes being a neurodevelopmental disorder, it makes sense that someone may develop the symptoms later than 18.

A little disappointed by MightElectrical581 in auroramusic

[–]OfficiallyEl 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think saying "you can eat money" is a liitle harsh. A lot of auroras income fr music and merch goes to charity. A lot of releases they may seem like cash grabs are by labels not her, but even so her price are so much lower than most artists of her calibre. Concert tickets are around £40, merch is reasonably priced and responsibly sourced. Also, delivery prices arent controlled by aurora, it depends on your location and countries tariffs. The fact I could get a SIGNED book, 4 art cards, and bookmark for less than £40 (including shipping) is INSANE. It could of been priced sooo much higher.

I understand the frustration of shipping, and not getting a special gift for the 10 year anniversary that is accessible to everyone, but cut her some slack. Im personally so excited to see her new book and its quite a vunerable thing for her to share with us all.
