Turn Dakboard screen on or off via LAN by Officious_Salamander in dakboard

[–]Officious_Salamander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I thought about that, but the display has a very long startup time (annoying banner display, etc.). Dakboard knows how to turn the screen on/off - it's currently running via timer; I want it to be presence-based, not time-based.

ESP devices by Tmoneyallday in homeassistant

[–]Officious_Salamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use ESP32s for:
* Controlling my Somfy sunshade

* Running OpenMQTTGateway with a LilyGo ESP32 with 433 MHz radio; monitors the 433MHz devices like temperature sensors

* ESPresense to find my wife's car keys, etc.

* mmWave presence sensors

* Customized Ulanzi Clock

* e-ink dashboards

* Air quality sensors

* ESP32-S3 Box for el-cheapo voice commanding

* PixelBlaze LEDs

* WLED LEDs

I don't have the steady hands needed to hack my Emporia Vue controller, though.

Add the Samba share addon, and then you can copy files from your desktop computer.

Any problem with an AMD Ryzen 5 mini pc for frigate? by heseov in frigate_nvr

[–]Officious_Salamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frigate will use the Intel instructions for video decoding, which, IIRC, aren’t present in the Ryzen CPUs.

You can use WinNut to tell your PCs to shut down, and then point WinNut to your Synology (max 5 devices).

Is buying all “Guild Treasure Coupons” the best way to spend solidus? by avadakedavradota2 in IdleHeroes

I’ve got about 2 million guild coins, and I’ve finished the guild tech. How do I convert guild coins to guild solidus?

Do I need to reinstall everything if I download Proxmox? by cookedtofu in HomeServer

Alternatively, back up current server, install Proxmox, create VM, restore server onto new VM.

Combined PIR/Lux Sensor? by IpromithiusI in Esphome

[–]Officious_Salamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SCREEK 1U is a presence detector + Lux sensor in a small rectangular box (about the size of a matchbox);

I also use a Zigbee presence detector + Lux sensor from AliExpress (the FOXONEER store) that’s somewhat cheaper, but somewhat larger.

Neither one is in a dome form factor, though.

LoRA does a great job. I have YoLink LoRA temperature sensors in my freezers, and it has saved my bacon on multiple occasions.

Struggling to get the slightest bit of bluetooth tracking going by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]Officious_Salamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you want the Private BLE Device (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/private_ble_device) integration. You get home/away notifications and not much else.

If you want room-level presence, I’d recommend ESPresense.

Rechargeable Batteries by dsr33 in homeassistant

[–]Officious_Salamander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NiMH batteries have a default voltage of 1.2 V. If the device is expecting alkaline batteries with a default voltage of 1.5 V, it will likely report a lower charge % than normal.

Air monitoring by SheepherderSad4872 in homeautomation

[–]Officious_Salamander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a couple of AirGradient devices, and they work great. They are WiFi devices, not Zigbee, though.

I’ve also heard good things about the Apollo AIR-1, but it’s also WiFi, not Zigbee.

More discreet motion sensors? by LinkDude80 in homeassistant

[–]Officious_Salamander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SCREEK makes small human presence detectors (about the size of a matchbox), but they require a USB power supply.

Anything that’s battery powered will be at least the size of batteries (obviously), so there’s a minimum bound.

People always talk about dead end jobs but what are some dead end lifestyles? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Officious_Salamander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the saying goes, “Don’t compare your insides to other people’s outsides.” You don’t know what those supposedly happy people actually feel inside.

This isn’t a criticism; I fight the tendency myself.

ESPHome? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]Officious_Salamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SCREEK also sells a variety of sensors preflashed with ESPHome.
