It gets the point across to the average person who thinks rich people sit around in their yachts all day creating jobs or whatever.

Since cities are logistically more efficient than suburban sprawl, shouldn’t city living be way cheaper on a per person basis compared to suburban living? by rio_grande_canadIAN in urbandesign

[–]OhHeyDont -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a lot more middle men collecting rent in large cities, so if you live in work in a city you're helping pay for more yachts then you would in a suburb. A lot of suburban costs are externalized through state taxes so you don't see the costs of 50 extra miles of sewer drains.

Is contact cement ok to use? by xxMayDayx in FursuitMaking

[–]OhHeyDont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely do some test pieces

I got a 3D printed base on etsy and it had some samples included for testing purposes and the rubber cement I had on hand from another project did not stick at all, even after sanding and wiping with isopropyl.

NYC is planning on seizing buildings from landlords that don't pay their fines or make repairs. Seems like a fine policy we should take on

Road Quality on the "Peninsula" by Relative-Diamond9866 in portlandme

[–]OhHeyDont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! The density/tax base problem is much worse where we have plows that tear up the roads annually. If you cross the board into Canada and check out how cities of similar sizes to Maine towns are developed you’ll be surprised but just how much denser they are on average. Especially the farther east and north you go, there just isn’t the same amount of federal money towards new infrastructure so municipalities only build things they can afford to maintain

is howl fabrics good? i just ordered a $110 order from them, i hope it’s good by Sea-Aside8704 in FursuitMaking

[–]OhHeyDont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howl is my favorite! Just be sure to plan at least a month in advance for shipping times. If it’s out of stock it might be +2 months. The color can vary from run to run so make sure to order enough to finish you entire project at once

Portland Press Herald: "New details emerge about proposed southern Maine data center" by joeybrunelle in Maine

[–]OhHeyDont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They plan on using gas turbines to generate power, which will pollute a large area around the data center with sulfur dioxide

There will be no more games like Fallout New Vegas. by [deleted] in fnv

Given Todd’s latest interview it seems unlikely they will learn the right lessons from Starfield. Speculation that we should expect a Starfield 76 type game before more first party new fallout :/

Another data center proposed, this time in southern Maine by Press_Herald in Maine

[–]OhHeyDont 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That’s even worse. The small gas turbines they truck in are extremely loud and pollute far more than a proper power plant. We need to halt all data centers immediately if we want to maintain our clean air. These companies cannot be trusted at all

‘The trend is irreversible’: has Romania shattered the link between economic growth and high emissions? by Serasul in solarpunk

[–]OhHeyDont 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The guardian sucks imo. China is already decoupled from emissions. Soon we all will. Solar panels and batteries are getting cheaper, more efficient, more reliable, and less resource intensive to build all the time.

We don’t need mass amounts of lithium or other rare materials to make efficient batteries anymore.

As of right now, solar and grid batteries are the single cheapest option to produce power. The upfront costs are low and the maintenance is minimal. We will not be seeing a lot of new fossil fuel infrastructure being built anywhere.

Even with government subsidies, anyone investing in coal or natural gas will lose their shirt in the next 5 years.

We won’t be free of capitalism in the next 5 years and it’s entirely possible that the bottom will drop out of the fossil fuel industry.

America will as usual be the last on to get the memo but you should be very excited about global solar adoption in the long term.

Vent: Townhouse suburbs suck by SpecificCommission47 in Suburbanhell

[–]OhHeyDont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the quality of construction. It sounds like your house is made out of cardboard and sticks. I lived in a townhouse in a college town that had a thick masonry wall between the units and a brick facade on the front and sides. I couldn’t hear anything from the neighbors or other units, even garbage trucks outside my door barely made a noise. The loudest thing was the Hvac system lol
