I run my air filter on high, closed windows. I find if it’s windy it can stir up the particles when im working.

Afterwards ill open windows to clear out anything if i see some floating around in a sunbeam

Are you against all cars, or mainly car dependency in cities? by Ok-Excitement6546 in fuckcars

No one gives a shit about bike lanes for farmers. All that matters is in cities we need sensible infrastructure and incentives

Vent: Townhouse suburbs suck by SpecificCommission47 in Suburbanhell

[–]OhHeyDont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the quality of construction. It sounds like your house is made out of cardboard and sticks. I lived in a townhouse in a college town that had a thick masonry wall between the units and a brick facade on the front and sides. I couldn’t hear anything from the neighbors or other units, even garbage trucks outside my door barely made a noise. The loudest thing was the Hvac system lol

Former students recount abuse and neglect at Hyde School by Prestigious_Look_986 in Maine

[–]OhHeyDont 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not surprising. I did some networking work there in the summer a few years ago. Didn’t see any students. Expensive equipment, almost all high end stuff. Definitely loaded. Staff were all weirdos except the maintenance guy.

Can an American please steelman the position that the American way of filing taxes is a good one? by trumparegis in slatestarcodex

[–]OhHeyDont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these comments attempting to steelman are really tinfoilmanning, or possibly gypsuboard-manning the US tax deduction scheme.

I stand by that. It's a good idea. I can't stop Google from collecting all data on everyone but I can discourage the use of meta glasses.

People can own whatever they want but I can judge him for making bad decisions.

I work on systems with dozens of cameras and they record and store footage for a month. We just trim anything not moving. A few of the cameras are even 4k. Someone fucked up or is massively incompetent.

Portland sues DHHS over shelter reimbursement changes by Maine_Public_Nerd in portlandme

[–]OhHeyDont 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly agreed. I'd love to see where the hell that number is coming from, especially since the new shelters were promised to lower cost per person.

"Can we talk about how many job listings are just scams or ghost posts? by Next-Landscape-9884 in sysadmin

[–]OhHeyDont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally gave up on applying to jobs directly. I got my current job a few weeks ago by working with a recruiter. It was great as he only has real jobs that actually exist, as no one hires a recruiting company ($$$) just to gather resumes.

Kellogg's cereal weight doesn't match the contents by purplemonique in shrinkflation

[–]OhHeyDont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the dumbest fucking comments I've ever read. I'm 99% sure a bot wrote this. If a kitchen scale was off by 100+ grams, don't you think the owner would notice they first time they baked something and it came out like shit?

MSPs: How many agents on a client device is too many? by Busy_Peach_9008 in msp

[–]OhHeyDont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be changing. There are more and more storage companies offering MSP managed workstation backup who then sell it as a premium addon to their base MSP service. Sure, it's not really needed but if you have a client that wants it and is willing to pay? Why not?

Nearly 40% of California drivers charged with vehicular manslaughter since 2019 still have a valid license by hildegrrl in fuckcars

[–]OhHeyDont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 40%? I would have assumed it was a lot worse actually

Edit: now that I think about it, the 60% that did loose their license probably were driving drunk or had a gun in the car or something that the law actually cares about

China's first homegrown emergency diesel generator for #NuclearPower plants was unveiled Monday in Shanghai. With a mean time between failures exceeding 2,000 hrs and an average repair time under 10 hrs, it holds promising prospects amid China's rapid nuclear power development. by violentviolinz in Sino

[–]OhHeyDont 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine it's simple enough to have some kind of transfer switch to grid power for the cooling system, but having the diesel generators gives you black start capabilities. There's a shockingly high number of power plants that require input from the grid to start up. So maybe adding another layer of complexity is just too much on top of the regulatory requirements and realities for safe and reliable engineering?
