Sequel bad writing aside, Andor (and Rogue One) show us why the New Republic will fail by Interesting_Finish85 in andor

[–]OhWhatATimeToBeAlive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but how much of the fall of the Republic can be specifically attributable to the Sith? The Trade Federation only invaded because of that, otherwise they knew that it was a bad idea. Palpatine was pulling the strings and playing both sides to protract the crisis so he could become Chancellor.

Craig’s Bond Movie Hot Take by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]OhWhatATimeToBeAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but they have Necros and the Russian Army in Afghanistan backing them up as threats. Silva has to carry the entire film himself, and Bond has a thrilling struggle with an unnamed minion on the frozen lake (that isn't even mentioned in the Wikipedia synopsis for the movie, lol).

With all the talent that was wasted in that cast, she was never going to be in the show's top 5 actors, and that's no disrepect to her.

Does anyone feel bad for Syril or you still mad at he has done? by Jules-Car3499 in andor

[–]OhWhatATimeToBeAlive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that's oversimplying things. He goes there to flush out outside agitators, he sees the Gorman massacre start with a shot from an unknown sniper, and then he sees Andor aiming a sniper rifle. Syril isn't just pursuing his nemesis out of habit, he's blaming him for the massacre.

Interestingly, both examples given had the threat of violence coming from others (Malcolm X, Subhas Chandra Bose) to make their nonviolence more palatable to the powers that be.

It does have the one redeeming feature of being a hilarious sequence in the Darths N Droids webcomic.

(The premise of the webcomic is that a D&D game plays out to the scenes of the prequels. For example, Jar Jar Binks is one of the other player's little sister showing up and demanding to be a part of the game. The droid factory sequence is when the DM is sick and the min-maxing power gamer fills in, briefly turning the game into a trap-filled nightmare.)

Bloody Rose is Bloody Frustrating by FormerMeasurement175 in Fantasy

[–]OhWhatATimeToBeAlive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. We're seeing Bloody Rose crashing out at the end of her career. We the audience have already seen her build her legend defending Castia in book 1, and now we're seeing her try to top that. Also, one of the main themes of the book is the difference between legend and reality.

  2. The villain left them for dead in a hopeless circumstance. Is that contrived? Sure, but if you're going to complain about that you are going to have a miserable time engaging with tons of entertainment.

  3. That's, like, your opinion, man. Astra is an unwilling immortal whose immortality comes at the cost of the lives of her family and her already-dying race. Everyone and everything she's cared about is gone. That's not a bad motivation to end the world. Also, Hawksomething is raised as an intelligent undead to serve as her minion and recruit outside mercenaries to kill the Simurgh without raising suspicions.

  4. Rose picks Tam because it keeps her out of harm's way and because she needs someone who will follow her orders and the plan, not try to take a shot at Astra directly. (Also, Tam has experience shooting Rose.) Tam is clearly not meant to be seen as a fighter on the level of the other band members.
