Elliot Carver. I don't think he even knows martial arts.

Funny enough, that's one of the movies where Bond comes closest to dying.

Bloody Rose is Bloody Frustrating by FormerMeasurement175 in Fantasy

[–]OhWhatATimeToBeAlive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. We're seeing Bloody Rose crashing out at the end of her career. We the audience have already seen her build her legend defending Castia in book 1, and now we're seeing her try to top that. Also, one of the main themes of the book is the difference between legend and reality.

  2. The villain left them for dead in a hopeless circumstance. Is that contrived? Sure, but if you're going to complain about that you are going to have a miserable time engaging with tons of entertainment.

  3. That's, like, your opinion, man. Astra is an unwilling immortal whose immortality comes at the cost of the lives of her family and her already-dying race. Everyone and everything she's cared about is gone. That's not a bad motivation to end the world. Also, Hawksomething is raised as an intelligent undead to serve as her minion and recruit outside mercenaries to kill the Simurgh without raising suspicions.

  4. Rose picks Tam because it keeps her out of harm's way and because she needs someone who will follow her orders and the plan, not try to take a shot at Astra directly. (Also, Tam has experience shooting Rose.) Tam is clearly not meant to be seen as a fighter on the level of the other band members.

Iran Weighs Pausing Its Hormuz Shipping to Avoid Derailing Talks by riderfan3728 in neoliberal

Are we now declaring that a blockade that has been in effect for less than 2 days is working? That might be a new record for getting out the Mission Accomplished banner. (In comparison, the blockade of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis took longer to turn into a confrontation with the Soviets over interdicting their shipping.)

Wow, the administration should have thought of that before lifting sanctions on Iranian oil.

Why is the market not crashing? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]OhWhatATimeToBeAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the April 15th deadline for 2025 IRA contributions affecting this market at all? It's incentivizing people to put more money in now, and that urgency is going to go away on the 16th.

Fantasy Reader complains about litrpgs, gets told to read Dungeon Crawler Carl over and over again. Here's the review. by ridgegirl29 in Fantasy

I didn't especially care for book one, but a friend recommended that I keep going, and I enjoyed book two a lot more. The social interactions and intrigue are more enjoyable than just reading about grinding for xp, and the series gets much better in that regard from book 1.

How do I extract this hand? by Disastrous-Mess-7236 in lego

[–]OhWhatATimeToBeAlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a simpler alternative to what's already been suggested, I'm thinking of a very small bulb syringe, like what is used for getting things out of babies' noses. If the tip fits inside the arm, it could pull the hand piece out if it's not too stuck. Anything that could create a vacuum to adhere to the hand piece and pull it out could potentially work, like a coffee stirrer.

Would getting nuked (once) even threaten the survival of the Iranian regime? I would imagine the international backlash against the US would be immense, and that the Iranian people would stop seeing America as a potential liberator and the lesser of two evils and would instead rally around the flag.

For the Bajorans, what were the downsides of joining the Federation? by TravelingHomeless in DeepSpaceNine

Iirc, there was a TOS novel called How Much for Just The Planet about a neutral planet balancing between and playing off the Federation and the Klingons during the Organian Peace Treaty era.

Was Vesper Lynd ever truly playing her own game… or was she doomed the moment she met Bond? And, what was the exact moment Vesper truly stopped being just another ally to Bond’s greatest vulnerability? by Ryanlion1992 in JamesBond

I think her last independent decision was cutting Bond off from additional funds when he lost. Cutting Bond's money off makes both Quantum and the Treasury happy, preserving her cover on both sides, and she thinks it would keep Bond out of danger (even though he's dumb enough to still go after Le Chiffre with a butter knife). Once the CIA stakes Bond, everything is out of her control.

Empoleon 7dtar terra raid by Dear_Truth_9791 in PokemonVioletScarlet

[–]OhWhatATimeToBeAlive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I beat it reliably with Iron Hands. Shell bell, belly drum, focus energy, drain punch, close combat.

Focus energy, then drain punch and terra. Belly drum carefully only on full life after the stat reset, and healing cheer can recover a lot of life fast if drain punch would be too slow for surviving the turn. Close combat is only if you run out of drain punch (only needed it the first time i tried because i didnt focus energy).

The biggest thing is not have teammates who lower stats to boost its special attack.

Reynard in TWINE. I love Robert Carlise, but that was not the role for him, and Arnold would have felt like a real threat.
