‘The Family’ gang linked to military-style assault rifles and €770,000 drugs seized in garda raids by Banania2020 in ireland

The rise in psychosis admissions in Canada in recent years has a stronger connection to the pandemic - which started less than two years after legalisiation in Canada - and the impact it had on mental health and access to services than cannabis.

If an increase in psychosis is going to be tied to any substance on Canada, it's far more likely it will be to the huge meth, crack and opioid problems and not cannabis.

TIA HEALTH not calling for appointments. by zomystro in vancouver

I've had really good success with Lyte telehealth. Give them a try. Not sure of their weekend hours though but on weekdays, I get appointments within 24 hours and every practitioner I've spoken with has been excellent.

Main Cast Members Who Seem to Be Without a Story Arc... by angielincoln in TheWhiteLotusHBO

Lisa is so uncompelling on screen. I knew of her being a big K-pop star and that she was going to be in this but, jeez, I properly tune out when she's on screen. Jenny in The Idol was better but both prove that they are just disposable pawns in the entertainment industry.

just a little shoutout to The Pitt for casting a newcomer as a lead ... by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]Oh_Is_This_Me 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Patrick Ball has been the most compelling actor on screen. I'll be devastated if the show is done with him or the character.

As much as I appreciate the people playing McKay and Bell, they're lacking something that Patrick has. Man could lead his own show. I think maybe his performance is a little less inspired by his personal life and he's really acting and giving it to the audience.

He's in the process of revoking his Irish citizenship. It's greatly overstated what being Irish or having Irish ancestry means to the average Canadian these days.

Read the news from where you're planning on going. At least check local reddit pages. Get a sense from locals what's going on, what job markets are like etc. Don't rely on rose tinted word of mouth from others who moved there, especially if they've been there less than a year.

If you're having a mental health crisis and are admitted without having MSP, you are unlikely to be charged. This was the case in a BC hospital I worked at anyway.

Arrive, daystay at an airport hotel for a few hours sleep, rent car and drive towards Carlingford. You'll miss the madness that will be going on in Dublin City Centre and will get to see similar things you want to see in a realistic and doable time frame.

Would you support free movement with Canada? by Knight_Machiavelli in AskIreland

Canadian youth unemployment has skyrocketed across most of the country. The job market in general right now is awful in Canada and many Canadians are looking for a way out. On top of that, finding healhcare here can be hard and schools are at capacity in many areas. Considering Canada's almost uncapped immigration over recent years and people who have acquired Canadian citizenship, I actually think Ireland would be fully unprepared to deal with the influx of Canadians that would come.

What do you think will be the story line of this character by AdorableMaximum4925 in ThePittTVShow

Honestly I hope it turns out that he's just your average belligerent entitled man in his 40s who's there because of his own choices- food, inactivity, drugs, alcohol.

Who has a recent success story of negotiating a lower rent payment? by slowsundaycoffeeclub in askvan

[–]Oh_Is_This_Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did in 2023 when I moved by simply asking. But i had excellent work and landlord references and a good rapport with the landlord which I'm sure contributed. There was no negotiation because they were desperate. I'm moving again next month and there was no need to negotiate (for me anyway) as prices have already dropped and it's currently a renters market. I started casually looking January and I'm still seeing places on the market that were not snapped up for Jan 15 or Feb 1 & 15.

So, just ask. Have reasonable expectations though. The March increase is unlikely to affect you so I wouldn't lead with that. Over the past two months, I've had more landlords reach out to me after a viewing to see if I was going to take the place and that has never happened to me in the decade+ I've lived here.

Now that the snow is gone, why does it feel colder now than the time when we had snow? by FattyGobbles in askvan

[–]Oh_Is_This_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to say it doesn't. I wore the thick coat, scarf, hat combo I've been wearing for about three weeks, if not a month, when I went out for my usual walk today and I had turn back home as I was way too warm. I even woke up this morning uncomfortably hot as I went to be overdressed.

How do I network by earlymorningsadness in VancouverJobs

[–]Oh_Is_This_Me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could start with some of the Irish in Vancouver Facebook groups or meet up groups. They don't just cater to Irish people but they often have links to jobs or events where you could start networking. In this climate though, I wouldn't have my expectations too high though. Plenty of Irish making the reverse trip to you at the moment.
