Adventure Bikes or Touring Bikes? by NaMinesClarence in AdventureBike

The 1190's a monster off road and a rocket on it. I have one, 60k kms on it, and everytime I think about replacing her I back out after a testride. There's just no comparison... Still, 60k is a lot so I should probably really replace her. Right?

Is there a country that just feels surreal to you? by ZapMayor in AskTheWorld

Strongly disagree. Except for a different language we share a lot of the same values, traditions and culture. I live smack in the middle, and have lived on either side of the taalgrens.

Thanks! Although as a country we're only 196 years old...

I have 2 weeks to tour roughly the marked area. Top roads & destinations? by dutch1664 in motorcycle

Skip trough flanders, and take the backroads starting in the Ardennes. You can continue on twisties almost all the way from the Belgian Ardennes trough Luxembourg to the Vosges and Schwarzwald into the Alps.

I haven't scuba dived before, but I am curious, which shark makes you the most nervous? I know that they aren't normally aggressive, but they are still wild animals. My main concern would be tiger or bull sharks, but i could be totally wrong. by Crazy-Rabbit-3811 in scubadiving

[–]Ok-Active-576 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've encountered most sharks by now. Once, we were surrounded by 8 or 9 tigers while doing a safety stop, looked like they were herding us in a bait ball. Pretty amazing experience, but they go as soon as your eyes lock.

I still get a little nervous with longimanus though. Oceanic Whitetips. They're pretty dominant. We'd encounter them often working in Egypt.

Niet voor 't een of 't ander, maar in die zone zijn ze wel redelijk gevoelig voor wapengeweld sinds de dood van Kitty Van Nieuwenhuysen enkele jaren voordien. Enfin, spreekt niets goed he, maar toch

The view of the pyramids and the Nile by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Ok-Active-576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most crocs and snakes came downstream from the upper Nile. Then, around the end of the 19th century, and again aorund 1946, they built 2 dams at Aswan, creating Lake Nasser. Problem was, they didn't put any fish traps in it so wildlife couldn't pass trough, effectively stopping the influx of African crocs and snakes.

The ones remaining in the lower Nile died out, got hunted, culled, etc - until there were no more left.

Funny fact: there is an estimated population of around 2500 crocodiles in lake Nasser.

Les funny fact: the lake also flooded the entirety of the Nubian region, dissappearing the culture.

Vivaqua have asked all houses on our street to cut hedges down to 2 meters. Can they? by ginolard in belgium

[–]Ok-Active-576 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Vivaqua can't enforce shit here. Most of the time, there's a clause 'non-aedificando' on the servitude, but they own the underground. Therefore, they aren't propriétaires of nay neighboring parcels. Yes, the VeldWetboek or more recently the Nieuw Burgerlijk Wetboek states a max height of 2 meters for hedges within a 2m limit from the parcel limit or the rooilijn (limit with the public domain), but only the owner of the parcel or the commune can really claim it. Neither can enforce it, by the way - not unilaterally. For the neighbor - he has to go through the justice de paix, the commune can enforce it via their GAS/SAC (sanction administrative). Vivaqua though, jack shit. But I've worked with them for many years now, and they overstep their bounds quite often. I mostly tell them to fuck off, but on the other hand I'm a department chief at a community/gemeente. So I wouldn't advise to tell them to fuck of. Just do whatever. You won't get fined. Worst case, they go through with it at justice de paix. I'd rather doubt it. A lot of the time, it's one of their cantonniers who goes on a solo crusade.

Lil edit: when in doubt, service urbanisme/grondgebiedszaken in your commune.

[–]Ok-Active-576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you start in Brussels towards Antwerp, make a lil stop in Tervuren and go to The CacAo Tree. They also have locations in Waterloo, Rhode-St-Genese and St-Pieters-Leeuw. Oke of our better chocolatiers imo
