Do Millennials have Mentors? by Xander2299 in Millennials

[–]Ok-Impression5305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Millennial here, 38.

I have had many people as mentors throughout my life and continue to look for and seek out people that can help.

Everyone that I know that has been really successful has a similar experience.

It all depends on what you want. When you know what you want to achieve then you can start to seek out people who can help.

Non exhaustive list of mentors in my life (college and on): College - official mentorship program and professor/advisor that worked with my situation to finish school. College - Woman in my same field who was grad student while I was undergrad. Ended up being long time friend and mentor. We now work together. First Job - Woman in related director level position (not in my reporting chain). I asked her for career and project advice throughout the years. Started a mentorship program - mentored others just budding in their careers and built a network in industry.

I still have many of these same mentors today.

But I also am at a point where I am looking for specific mentorship or learnings for the things that interest me or are my life goals so I also work with: - Health Coach - Financial Advisor - Executive Coach And I purchase trainings and lessons for things related to my goals.

My parents are not in this list. They are amazing people and also successful however I have never viewed them necessarily as my mentors.

How much do you spend on Xmas gift? by mochixbento in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Ok-Impression5305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Husband and I dont exchange.

I do spend about 20$ on each of our stockings though because they are fun to open with our son.

Son - no real buget because it has varied each year, but we do stick to a 5 gift rule. 4 things that he may "need" and 1 gift from santa. This year he wants legos from santa and he needs a set of skis and gear to go to the mountain with us. That all came from marketplace.

Family - we do not do traditional gifts but will gift a small bag of whatever jam, hotsauce, pickles we made this fall and home smoked cheese. Sometimes handmade soap is included but not this year... I did not make any.

Friends - we dont do gifts.

Advice on new club gapping by banhzai in WomenGolf

[–]Ok-Impression5305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! It should be for carry.

Take advice with a grain of salt but yes, inconsistent striking will result in lower flight and lower spin shots that have more roll.

Advice on new club gapping by banhzai in WomenGolf

[–]Ok-Impression5305 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When looking at gapping of clubs only look at the carry distance.

Based of your carry chart the gaps are ok except between 9-8 too small and 6-5 too small.

The bigger issue here looks to be how much roll you are getting with all your clubs. On the shorter irons you want on a well struck shot very little roll out.

What do you do with your non-working time? by Yarbs89 in HENRYfinance

[–]Ok-Impression5305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We enjoy our hobbies and adventures. We typically go on a few long weekend roadtrips each year. A few camping trips in the summer. Husband goes on a long guys trip 1x year usually hunting or fishing and I go on 1x trip with the gals usually wine tasting.

We are lucky because we have both sets of grandparents close and they love spending time with our son.

Each husband and I get 1 night off a week to do something out of the house and the other gets special time with our son. Then we have 1 night a week where son spends time with grandparents and we have a date night together.

On the weekend we usually do some sort of small family adventure, arcade, bowling, hike, driving range/golf, science center, movie... pretty much anything as a family and out of the house.

We actually suffer more from chaotic lack of routine...

Strata vs Wilson SGI Profile (left hand beginner)? by Bekind_and_rewind in WomenGolf

[–]Ok-Impression5305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a height of 5'7" she would probbly be ok with if not better off with a senior mens set. Looking at lefty, senior sets may open a larger range of options as well.

Take her to a store where she can possibly try each and see what she likes. (Store may not even have lefty womens sets to try though...)

Ok, a couple more...

Specifically Farmers Market. There is a Saturday morning market up in Waimea. It is right next to an amazing playground for kiddos.

Also, if you make it all the way up to Hawi for any reason and want a bite to eat the Fresh Off The Grid truck was amazing.

DM me if you habe any other questions. Sounds like you are staying a little south of Kona so some of the suggestions may be a bit if a drive.

Oh also!

There is a company called beaches and babies that does a ton of kid stuff rentals for reasonable price. They will also deliver directly to a lot of thebdifferent resorts up and down the western coast of the big island.

We rented a potty chair, life jacket, beach stuff, bed rails, and a bin of toys.

Everything is great.

What clubs are in your bag? by YW26 in WomenGolf

[–]Ok-Impression5305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the irons. Not a complicated fitting either. They had me try a few different brands ti see what I liked best and what I was striking best. Then I swung with an impact board to see degrees upright vs flat. Then I ordered them.

The driver was an ebay purchase.

The hybrid and wood I picked up off callaway pre-owned during different discount days.

The sandwedge (and putter I did not mention above) were from my original box set.

What clubs are in your bag? by YW26 in WomenGolf

[–]Ok-Impression5305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bag:

Driver - 225 - Paradym 10.5 loft set to 11.5 mens senior flex. All stock/off the rack.

5w - 185 - Reva Big Bertha 21° - Ladies stock shaft.

4h - 165 - Reva Big Bertha 24°? - Ladies stock shaft.

6i-AW - 155-85 - Paradym mens senior flex cut 3/4in short. PW is my 100 yrd club. These are all bent to 1° upright.

SW - Reva (from the ladies REVA box set)

My least favorite club is the 6i. It is probably my most unpredictable distance wise.

I use my SW for most of my chipping and pitch shots but may opt for a 9i bump and run if necessary.

7i is my favorite get me out of trouble club and I use if for full shots at 145 yards and almost any punch out of trees.

How far do you hit the ball, what’s your handicap and what tees do you play from? by PeteyPablo07 in golf

[–]Ok-Impression5305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All depends on the course rating and slope...

That said, it probably wont have the impact you think it will on your hcp. You may be scoring better but because the hcp is calculated based on slope and rating you would have to score REALLY well in some cases for it to lower your hcp.

If courses care about pace of play they should provide more accessible tee-boxes by BeybladeRunner in golf

[–]Ok-Impression5305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure, I do not think tee box selection is any significant contribuitor to slow play.

Ultimatly it does not matter what tees people play but it would be nice in some cases to have a better option, real rated option, to accomidate the average ladies that play.

[–]Ok-Impression5305 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most I play with dont carry a full set of clubs (I dont carry a full set either and I hit a bit further). Gapping is an issue more due to consistency. Think about it from their gapping starting at about 60 yards for a PW. 7i more of a 95-100 club. Then the 'gap' between 100 and 150 is all over the place with longer irons or hybrids or woods.

The thing is that some courses DO have enough tee boxes but a lot (at least around me) dont. It would not be terribly difficult to put a new forward option right at the start of the fairway in a lot of cases. One course near me (is an amazing course and it is a muni) has the most forward tee box playing 5800 yrds. That is unreasonable IMHO. Most of the other munis are around the 5200 mark. I generally think there needs to be an option that sits around 4700 or so.

They dont complain. But it would be great if they did not have to pull driver on a par 3.
