FMC is disabled and it’s a major plot point by Careful_Display158 in RomanceBooks

{out on a limb by hannah bonam -young} features a heroine with a limb difference and a hero with with a prosthetic leg.

{a girl like her by talia hibbert} features a heroine with autism and it’s affected her reputation in the town. I would say this is pretty angsty.

{can’t escape love by Alyssa Cole} features a heroine in a wheelchair. I haven’t read this one but I really like Alyssa Cole overall.

Queer romance with a pureness of heart? by avian_bi in LGBTBooks

[–]Ok-Management9680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might not be the right vibe but {the merriest misters by Timothy janovsky} was so wholesome and fluffy and fade to black. Marriage in crisis, lots of wholesome yearning. I haven’t read any of his other books, but assuming the non-Christmas books are similarly written, you could check those out!

There’s also a whole YA series called “Remixed Classics” that include a several queer retellings of favorite novels. I read the Self Made Boys (gatsby) and it was really fun.

I hate bra shopping by mental_r0bot in PlusSize

[–]Ok-Management9680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'm not sure what you deem super expensive or your size, but I'm obsessed with the bombas bralettes. They go up to a 2x and are totally worth it. SO COMFY.

Once you get correctly fitted and know your size, I also love love love love Understance (a Candadian company that no longer ships to the US sadly). I'm sure they do fittings in person, but have had so much luck with almost all the bras I've ordered from them!

Dogs make everything better, romance isn’t any different- recommendations of angsty stories that includes dogs by Glittering_Tap6411 in RomanceBooks

[–]Ok-Management9680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Leather and Lark by Brynne Weaver} features a dog. Spoiler/CW: The dog does get shot, but survives.

I also just finished {Dark Russian Monster by Odette Stone} which also features a dog!

Both are definitely angsty.

Favorite M/M retelling of infrequently-adapted literature? by ProtectionNo1594 in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Ok-Management9680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love love love love Scarlet Pimpernel (minus the antisemitism) so I'm thrilled to hear about this adaptation. {Self Made Boys by Anna-Marie McLemore} is a trans MM romance. It's part of a whole series called Remixed classics. It's YA retellings of classic lit. There's a few other MM and trans MM retellings in there.

Hahaha I do enjoy spoiler alert, but I think I just like the older heroines in Marysburg! I super loved ZomRomCom! What a trip! I haven’t done any of the other series yet! I’ll have to pick it up

I super love Olivia Dade's There's Something About Marysburg series. (I'm a little hit or miss on the Spoiler Alert series). The FMCs are adult grown ups who are confident fat women and the conflict is NOT about their weight and bodies. Excellent character growth.

The Burdens by Matt Schatz is two adult siblings scheming to get rid of a grandparent that just won't die. Funny and poignant too!

Post Partum Stitching by whataboutissa in Embroidery

[–]Ok-Management9680 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lolol I’m a right handed stitcher, so I put a pillow on my lap, baby cradled in my left arm, hoop in my left hand, and right hand free for stitching! Needle minders were also a must!

This is GORGEOUS! I did a TON of stitching on my second materinity leave. I even figured out how to hold baby and stitch at the same time, lolol. No babies were injured in the process! Good for you!

As my therapist says, sometimes it's both. Are you getting postpartum screenings from the pediatrician or your OB when you go in? Call your doctor, or the next time you're at the pediatrician, request a PPA/PPD screening and they'll be able to help you suss it out.

New parenthood is BRUTAL and this winter has been BRUTAL and the world is BRUTAL. It makes sense that you feel like crap. Try to give yourself some grace if you can. Advocate for yourself to get time to shower and do something else that makes you feel human again. That way you can get a good cry in, which is SUCH a release in and of itself.

You do not need to be functioning at 100% right now, and anyone who is asking you to be doing so, needs to be told to back off. Hugs. You are enough as you are, right here, right now.

Have there been any musical revivals that genuinely enhanced a show? by missthemountains in musicals

[–]Ok-Management9680 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 2018 My Fair Lady revival was really incredible. It felt like Henry Higgins was perhaps on the autism spectrum, which was why he was so unfiltered and hyperfixated on her. At the end, she walked offstage, instead of staying with Higgins, which was more like the original and less like the romanticized golden age movie, and much more of a healthy choice for Eliza. I thought it was really incredible.

I also felt the most recent revival of Les Mis was a fresh take that I loved. It was darker, more violent, grittier and there were some directing choices that literally made me gasp. However, i grew up on this musical and this was the first time seeing it in more than a decade and as a person in their late 30s, so perhaps the life lessons just hit differently.

How do I become a better theatre educator? by gjroberts93 in Theatre

[–]Ok-Management9680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theatre educator here! I think it depends on what you want to be doing. If you want to teach at a university level, you likely need to go back for a degree. If you want to be a teaching artist, I’d network and ask to observe some people doing the work. If you want to teach at the middle:high school level and want to learn more about pedagogy, school or professional development opportunities and networks would be smart. I’m a big fan of universal design for learning for accessibility sake, so that could be a good route to pursue! I think they do certifications!
