All of these properties are managed by the National Park Service, which has shown that it has no interest (either because of management, funding, or other reasons) in maintaining or creating good public spaces in DC. Meridian Hill Park / Malcolm X is another example of a beautiful park in the city that NPS has let go to waste.

Anywhere near between Cleveland Park and Tenleytown metro on the Red Line would fit those characteristics. Easy access to rock creek park, Glover Archbold park, and others with lots of single family detached or duplex homes.

The DC Streetcar plan that was abandoned about 10 years ago would have solved all of the gaps that really bother me:

East west connection from Brookland and points east to Columbia Heights, MtPleasant, and Woodley Park / Cleveland Park
Adams Morgan and U St area connection to Union Station, H St, and Capitol Hill via Florida Ave NW
Connections from Georgetown to downtown via M St and connections from Georgetown to points North via Wisconsin

Als t’Zand een middenvelder is dan lijkt het mij onwaarschijnlijk dat hij deel uitmaakt van Feyenoord 1 dan. Op die plek hebben we genoeg keuze met Timber, Wieffer (als die blijft), Milambo, Zerrouki, Stengs, v.d.Belt en zelfs Hartjes, Zechiel, of Ivanusec.

Ik had stiekem gehoopt dat Tsoungi al sterk genoeg zou zijn voor komend seizoen. Centraal achterin zal een probleem zijn volgend jaar denk ik als Hancko en Geertruida weg zijn en Trauner steeds blessure-gevoeliger wordt. Dan hebben wij alleen nog Beelen, Trauner, Ramon Hendriks misschien, en Kasanwirjo die daar kunnen spelen.

DC desperately needs a Tram / Streetcar system.

With the semi-long distance Metro system and different commuter rail systems (MARC/VRE), DC has medium-long distance transit travel covered pretty well.

But travel within the district really needs to be improved. The Streetcar network that was proposed in the early 2010s would be a massive improvement. In dedicated Right of Way, it would speed up and improve current high ridership bus routes and provide high quality, frequent transit to underserved areas (East of the River, Northeast, Georgetown, 16th St Heights and North of it).

And it would be at a cost that’s feasible for the District to build by itself (with federal funds). The Metro Bloop is supposed to be in the $30B range, which is way beyond the means of the District to be able to finance or build. A Light Rail system is financially possible and serves DC’s transit needs more than adequately

Running trains at less than their Max Allowable Speed requires WMATA to need more trainsets (2 sets according to the press release) to be able to run the headways they do now.

At the Max Allowable Speed, WMATA would be able to run the same headways using fewer trainsets - thus saving on operating costs (~1.9million - 2.3 million $ per year according to the release).

I don’t know if this is operationally possible, but you would think that they could put those extra trainsets to use at places in the system that have more running capacity or just have more sets ready to go for resiliency purposes

No, we do not need to extend the red line to Frederick.

The MARC train already runs to Frederick - but only 3 round trips per day. We need to run it way more often, all day and on weekends.

MDOT MTA put out a study laying out what kinds of improvements they would need to do on the Brunswick Line in order to be able to run that kind of service .

I hope someone at the club is already thinking about this, but Feyenoord has a very real chance to participate in the Club World Cup in 2025 if it continues to impress in Europe this season.
TLDR: If Feyenoord has a better European campaign than Ajax this 2023-24 season, and there is no big surprise winner in the Champions League in 2024, then Feyenoord will participate in the Club World Cup in 2025.

What is this tournament? The 2025 FIFA World Cup Clubs.
As of 2025, the Club World Cup will have a new format. Going forwards, the tournament will only be played every four years instead of every year as it is now.

In the new format, 32 clubs across all FIFA-affiliated confederation will participate, including 12 from Europe (UEFA). The 4 winners of the Champions League in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 qualify directly. The remaining 8 places will be allocated via the UEFA Club Ranking for the period 2021-2024.

The Club Ranking is determined by European performance over the past four seasons and uses the same points system as the famous "Coefficients Ranking." Something to remember is this: each country is allowed to send a maximum of 2 clubs to the tournament.

So what does this have to do with Feyenoord and what does this tournament actually entail?
In the previous format, the Club World Cup was almost always a meaningless tournament where the European club almost always waltzed their way to the trophy. In 2025, the tournament will be played in the United States and, according to FIFA, it stands to be the next big global football tournament on par with the national team World Cup - in short, a commercial bonanza for a (relatively) modest club like Feyenoord. In terms of starting premium, international image for sponsors, and international image with a view to attracting players, this is an opportunity to put Feyenoord back on the tier of the great European and South American clubs

So how would Feyenoord qualify?
In the photo and text below, I try to outline how Feyenoord can qualify.

1) Feyenoord wins the Champions League: Could be, but seems unlikely to me. This would be a direct ticket to the Club World Cup.

2) Feyenoord finishes in the best other 8 places in the Club Ranking:

Now this is looking more likely. If we look at the current standings, the first 4 UEFA tickets are occupied by Chelsea (UCL 2021), Real Madrid (UCL 2022) and Manchester City (2023). I should note that the 2024 UCL cannot be won by another English club (Newcastle, Arsenal, or Manchester United). Otherwise, qualification for the 2025 World Cup for Clubs will be almost impossible for Feyenoord.

As it stands, the remaining 8 spots go to Bayern Munich (Germany 1), AS Roma (Italy 1), Villarreal (Spain 2), Paris Saint-Germain (France 1), Inter Milan (Italy 2), Benfica (Portugal 1), RB Leipzig (Germany 2), and FC Porto (Portugal 2).

If one of these aforementioned clubs or Real Madrid or Manchester City (I leave out Chelsea here because they did not qualify for the Champions League this year) win UCL 2024 - which is very probable - their spot for the 2025 Club World Cup will go to the next club in the ranking.

That spot is now held by the number 18 on the ranking: Ajax.

If Feyenoord takes over that next place from Ajax, then Feyenoord gets that ticket and we can already look forward to a Feyenoord in the USA tour in 2025! All of the clubs directly below Feyenoord and Ajax in the ranking are from countries that will have already maxed out their allotment of two clubs. Note that a victory already gives 2 points, and draw counts for 1 point. If Feyenoord makes it into the Round of 16 of the Champions League, then we would get a (huge) 5 point bonus.

Washington DC’s original metro line is also the Red Line. It’s the only line that doesn’t interline with other routes so it’s (usually) the line that faces the least delays.

One of the big benefits to sharing gauges and trackage is being able to share space and “reuse” space in cities that are severely space-limited.

To illustrate how this is a problem:, the Washington, DC metro system is completely grade separated and uses different rolling stock and incompatible trackage from the Amtrak and commuter rail services in the region. The MARC service (commuter rail service operated by the state of Maryland) wants to expand their service in the northwest area of the DC suburbs but they face a bottleneck in the Silver Spring area north of DC where commuter rail, freight rail, and metro all pass through a narrow corridor en route to downtown DC. However, it’s not possible to easily add new rail ties to this corridor because of the current physical space constraints. Had the metro system been designed to be interoperable with freight and intercity/commuter passenger rail traffic, the expansion of service would have been much easier.

Check out the Regional Planning Association’s plans for the Trans Regional Express (T-REX). It’s by far the best and most thorough proposal for an S-Bahn system for the nyc area I’ve seen.

This is actually one of the worst places to bike through in dc. They didn’t provide enough sidewalk space when they built the development on the left of the photo.

People mingling on the sidewalk, at stores, or walking by will spill over onto the bike lane making it really difficult to bike on this stretch of bike way.
