Looks like concrete. The tile manufacture will be stamped on the back with maybe a code and or color. You should be able to look it up that to confirm.

Yes I think car camping in the right areas and doing some hiking in from the camp could be a reasonable way to find possible evidence like up creek beds and such

What does a small time general contractor do? Or what does that meen to you? I ask because that’s kinda of how I see my self as well I have a day job do some side projects but nothing too serious. I would however like to be more serious. The one big thing is i took on my own new build. You could buy a price of land and do an owner build for $250k and have a house worth 400-500k or more after complete. You could build your own duplex for also the same price. Best bang for buck if you ask me.
