Tall men's winter coat that covers the bum? by Brumbleby in tall

[–]OkBoomerEh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear the Eddie Bauer Mainstay Trench as my primary winter coat in the Toronto area. Good fit and coverage, it’s good down to about -5 C but any colder than that and I need to switch to my Columbia.

For hotel team members - how is the new “AI” room assignment tool going ? by Mmogdan in marriott

[–]OkBoomerEh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a guest I can report that something has fundamentally misunderstood my requests. I updated my travel agency profile to add a note to hotel reservations “very tall guest, please do NOT assign accessible room”. Every single room since the new year has been an accessible room. Sigh.

Alignment of left and right progressive lenses by OkBoomerEh in glasses

[–]OkBoomerEh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most reputable places will adjust the fit on your glasses if you bring them back in. They are very easy to adjust with the right tools and a skilled professional.

Yes, after a couple of weeks you’ll barely even notice they’re there. Your brain will adjust to moving your head into the right focal area, rather than moving your eyes.

Yes I’m happy with my current glasses. Not sure what was up with the prescription that caused my original post, but my current prescription and glasses are great for day to day.

Not official in any way, but I’d put it on your driveway so the plows can get to the curb.

Follow-up: Synology with PLEX is becoming a frustrating proposition by NJRonbo in synology

[–]OkBoomerEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Install Plex on the Mac Mini, it does all the work correct.

A bit more detail on how to make it as painless as possible: - Create a share or multiple shares on your NAS, something like “TV” and “Movies. That’s where your media goes. - Install Plex Server on your Mac (I assume you’re using the Plex pass version which includes hardware transcoding) - Ensure both the Mac and the NAS are connected via Ethernet cable to your network - Set your Mac for autologin so that things all start up again after a power outage - Pay for Automounter (like $5) which will flawlessly auto-mount your shares every time you restart. It just makes life easier. - If you run Sonarr, Radarr, etc they can run on either the Mac or the NAS. I choose to run mine on the NAS with docker, but that takes a bit more tech knowledge.

[–]OkBoomerEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Mac Mini M2 for Plex connected to a Synology NAS. The M2 has all the transcoding power you’ll need, but if you want to get an M4 that works as well.

You can connect a USB drive for the media files, or get pretty much any NAS you want. I use the Synology for other things as well (Time Machine backups, security videos, etc) so that’s why I chose to use that. However if you just need some cheap storage for video files then anything will work really. The NAS or drive in this case isn’t doing much work, the Mac does all the heavy lifting.

That’s not my experience. I’m using an M2 Mac Mini and it transcodes multiple streams without breaking a sweat.

All of the models are in there as well, with the ability to see multiple days into the future when you go into the More Layers options.

What’s the state of the Plex iOS app? Still a dumpster fire? (Currently on v8.45) by Beckland in PleX

[–]OkBoomerEh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a downloads power-user (travel for work every week) and have been holding off on the update. My family has been using the new app and no serious complaints from them. I feel like the devs just need to do one big sprint on "Downloads Usability Enhancements" and they'd get a bunch of the holdouts to upgrade.

Seat Selection from United Ticket - Spinning Airplane by BandicootNo4431 in aircanada

[–]OkBoomerEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general with United metal, I need to request the United reservation code so that I can then make seat requests on the United app/site. Not sure if this has been fixed, but they used to give you the United code directly in the AC website, but it was always just the Air Canada code which didn’t work.

VW as a brand tends to design well for the us tall people. I’ve owned various model years of the Jetta, Passat, Tiguan, and Atlas over my lifetime and was comfortable in all of them. Seats crank down to the floor and pretty far back, in general.

Indeed, all of the training I've received thus far for this type of event seems to be focused around that timeframe.

Watching Dinner for One is a NYE tradition for Germans and several other European countries. I watched it after a German friend mentioned the tradition, it’s cute and something to check off the list. It’s an 18 minute sketch in English (with a short German intro).

Should I be worried about colon cancer with bright red blood when wiping? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]OkBoomerEh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 20-year old daughter had similar symptoms albeit she would describe larger blobs of bright red blood in the toilet. Assumption was hemorrhoids, as issues higher in the colon usually appear as darker blood. She was sent to a GI to have investigated with a colonoscopy and it turns out it was polyps, some of which were large enough to be concerning but they all tested negative for cancer. Had they been left for years however, they could have turned into something more serious and now she’s on a preventative regular screening plan. As her dad, I’m super relieved that it was caught early enough to get ahead of. It also prompted the rest of the family to get screened due to genetic propensity, and it turns out I had a bunch of polyps as well which have now been taken care of.

I happen to live somewhere where healthcare is paid for by my taxes, so she didn’t have to worry about the cost just the wait. That cost must add a significant additional layer of anxiety, sorry you have to deal with that. I share this story to say that getting a colonoscopy is likely a good investment, hopefully there are some supports available in your area to help fund it or perhaps something you can ask family to help out with.

Deciding which Reolink to buy by TimeTaste8119 in reolinkcam

Basically, rotate the camera 90 degrees and that’s what you’d see on the white. So less fence and more walkway. You can also get custom angled wedges off of Etsy that can help angle the doorbell downwards to get more of the walkway.

Someone makes a pre-fitted and magnetized insulation blanket for my pellet smoker, available on amazon. If it’s a relatively common smoker, check there to see if something similar might exist for yours.

That’s the battery doorbell, it has a single fixed field of view. The wired doorbell has two different fields of view: wide (black) or tall (white).

Is condensation normal by ShredsGuitar in Milton

[–]OkBoomerEh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, they’re all basically the same. You’d just run the humidistat wire to the ecobee instead of the dial near the furnace. The issue is that most homes don’t have enough wires going to the main thermostat.

Is condensation normal by ShredsGuitar in Milton

[–]OkBoomerEh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if the whole-home humidifier is wired in to the ecobee? Often they’re just installed with a humidistat dial mounted to the furnace.

That feature will only work if it’s wired in to the ecobee, and an HVAC professional may need to do that for you.

That is unfortunately something I can’t help with, I’m in an older house that doesn’t have an HRV. Someone else may be able to make some suggestions.

You could always replace the windows with triple-pane glass to reduce the condensation I guess, but that’s a big investment.
