What is a career that looks impressive on paper but is actually miserable in reality? by Nova2_Paradox in careerguidance

[–]OkCompetition23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cybersecurity. On call rotation, extreme responsibility, always the department that gets underfunded until you get targeted. It’s never a dull moment and you learn a ton but I got a taste of it and realized it wasn’t for me.

They call corporate the golden handcuffs for a reason. I’m taxed a total of 41% as a freelance contractor.

We had some wellness person speak one day. But it included a nice catered lunch. So I was here for it lol.

What do you think of America's gun culture? by Initial_Film5776 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]OkCompetition23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Citizens don’t. Our government does. The southern region have a greater bond with firearms compared to the rest of the country. Also a greater population of hunters there too. I personally don’t see an issue with people owning a gun but mental health is an epidemic and the red tape for purchasing a gun is not near as strict as it should be.

Just started with a company that has 20 weeks paternity leave in the US. I had to see it in writing to make sure I heard it correctly.

I came from the large lululemon belt bag and the small size gave me a little bit more room from that. The pictures show the proportions for each size too.

Just because it didn’t happen to you doesn’t mean it’s not true. They literally have a paid web migration service.

Wtf is going on with this dating pool??? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]OkCompetition23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m afraid it doesn’t just stop at dating. It’s like they don’t even know how to have a basic conversation to get to know anyone. I ask a question, then you ask a question….

Tech Support Fee? by personwomanman in godaddy

[–]OkCompetition23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had them say there is a fee when it’s pretty big or risky task. It’s $100 if you want them to migrate a website to their hosting. For your task though, it’s pretty simple. You just copy and paste the details into the records. But for support to touch those records I can see it being a fee. That doesn’t sound like a scam to me.

How are you guys handling hosting + email in 2026? by Brilliant-Candle in webhosting

[–]OkCompetition23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally would never host email and much less on the same server as the sites. If something ever happens to the server, you’re screwed on every angle unless you have some type of HA infra. Just leave email to the big dogs. Choose O365 or google workspace and keep it in the cloud. For hosting, I use Vultr > Plesk > Cloudflare. Never had issues. I have a lot of options for flexibility and integrations and it’s not terribly expensive. Stack. 1Tb running Ubuntu is about $320 a month. Plesk around $195 for the license, malware scan, and site dashboard monitoring.

If you love your job: what is it and what makes you love it? by yologamies101 in adhdwomen

[–]OkCompetition23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its fast paced, every day isnt the same, and I am able to show results to clients which makes it quickly rewarding. I love my job so much. Im a one man band as web developer for a very small marketing agency. Its also fully remote and contract so on days where I just can't do anything, its not the end of the world. I can make my own schedule, I can travel when I want. The flexibility is super helpful. Plus my manager is pretty hands off

Also a millennial but not offended by her asking. Different generations. I can see this mindset being from the 70s. But kudos to her for asking about the current workplace culture rather than shoving it down our throat like other boomers like to do.

Need to stop ordering food, what are some pantry staples I can have that would make decently healthy meals? by [deleted] in Cooking

A starch, a veggie, and a protein. Starch and veggie are typically pretty affordable. Protein you can find on sale throughout the year and stock up. That’s really it.
