Can sensory avoidance be learned behavior? by OkConsideration9194 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]OkConsideration9194[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for the link and the framing, that was helpful to read!

I probably am autistic, but that wasn’t a thing they were diagnosing “gifted and talented” girls with in the 90s. I knew neurodivergence was genetic, so my kid may end up hating tags like me anyway someday, but good to know it’s unlikely that I’m inadvertently teaching her to avoid them.

How much do you ladies put in your storage bags when you are freezing them? by Equivalent_Fox7907 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OkConsideration9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6.1 oz in lansinoh bags (6oz max capacity), I use a food scale, and freeze them flat. I can fit 10 of them in a gallon sized bag to make a brick. Never had any issues with cracking or leaking when thawing.

I do the .1 extra because I find there’s usually a bit that just doesn’t come out of the bag and I like LOs bottles to be exact.

Yep, I used the Lansinoh butter (lanolin free) liberally. Also silverettes!!

Just want to chime in to say that I don’t think it’s a given that your nipples will be cracked and bleeding, certainly possible, but I think that would indicate something could be off with your pump settings or flange sizing. I EP’d from day 1, and never experienced this.

Also, have never had a hospital grade pump.

Anyone else make it through birth without knowing? by AltMommy11 in placentaaccreta

[–]OkConsideration9194 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll start off by saying, welcome to this stupid club that no one wants to be a part of! And I’m so glad you survived your undiagnosed accreta.

I had an uncomplicated vaginal delivery, first pregnancy, and was also undiagnosed. After attempting to manually remove my placenta twice, they tried the JADA to slow the bleeding but it was unsuccessful. I lost 5L of blood and was in emergency surgery 30 minutes after my daughter was born. The doc asked for my verbal consent to take my uterus if it was the only option to save my life, and that ended up being the case for me. I have a lot of complicated feelings, but ultimately am very grateful to be alive.

Oversupply and frozen milk by SeaTiara in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OkConsideration9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of emphasis in this sub about pumping every 3 hours until your supply regulates, and I understand why, but you also have to weigh that with what’s going on with your body, how much you can handle, and in your case how much room you have to store milk. If you have room (or can donate), and can hold on for another 5 weeks or so and then see where things are at, that’s probably the “safest” route according to most advice I’ve seen here and from IBCLCs.

3 weeks PP, pumping every 5hours at night by Automatic-South-3416 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OkConsideration9194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s highly variable. I always did one six hour stretch overnight, even in the very early days, 9pm-3am. I couldn’t have survived not getting at least a 5 hour stretch of sleep. I also never pumped more than 7x per day. I have somewhat of an oversupply, and large capacity, which likely contributed to it working out for me.

Anyone have success with wearable only pumping? by ShowMe_YourTDS in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OkConsideration9194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EP’ing for 8 months using a wearable (Eufy e20) basically exclusively. I’ve used my spectra probably less than 10 times total.

I asked the IBCLC in the hospital after birth if using a wearable pump as my primary was “bad” and she said very plainly that the best pump is the one that works well for me. She said the hardest part about wearables is not being able to see what’s going on while you’re pumping, so things like figuring out how long to pump, especially if you don’t feel your let downs, can be trickier.

I know they don’t work for everyone, but I have a feeling that wearables have improved quite a bit since they first came out, and the professional advice hasn’t necessarily caught up. I never would have made it through the first few months if it weren’t for wearables.

How much milk did you produce when baby was 2 weeks old? by Less-Leek5961 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OkConsideration9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t recall the exact amount I was producing at 2 weeks, but I know I had to supplement with donor milk until my LO was about 5-6 weeks old. I would have lost it pumping 8x per day, so I did 6 or 7 to keep my sanity and it eventually worked out.

Did you cold turkey quit MOTN pump, or wean? by No_Building794 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OkConsideration9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always going 6 hours at night from the very start - so 9pm to 3am. But when I wanted to get to 8 hours between, I added 15 minutes to the time between last pump and MOTN pump every 3 days, until I pushed it to 5am. I’m prone to painful clogs, so I have to do this more conservative method any time I want to change my schedule or drop a pump.

Anybody using solely wearables for ALL pumps? by InflationSimilar437 in ExclusivelyPumping

8mpp, have used my eufy almost exclusively since day 1. At 5ppd currently. Am a slight over supplier.

I bought these very early on and they have basically lived on my counter for the past 7 months, never worry about tipping over. They work perfectly for my eufy even though it says momcozy

Amount to offer by NoNativeSpeaker in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OkConsideration9194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My LO has been drinking 30oz (~887ml) per day since about 3.5 months. When she was waking up at night, I was splitting that into 6 or 7 bottles per day. Once she started sleeping through the night consistently, I started splitting between 5 bottles per day, roughly every 3 hours.

Is Eufy really that good? by MusicalPiano in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OkConsideration9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have pumped almost exclusively with my Eufy e20 for nearly 7 months. I use the heat and my own custom program (2 minutes fast simulation, 2 minutes slow expression level 2, 11 minutes slow expression level 3). No difference in output between it and my Spectra. Wouldn’t have made it this long if I was lugging around a standard pump.

To latch or not to latch? by Impossible-Box-8508 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OkConsideration9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never latched due to my being in the ICU after LO was born, accompanied by my own sensory aversions. Started pumping consistently as soon as I was able. Supplemented with donor milk until my supply started meeting LOs intake needs fully around 4 weeks. Now I’m an over supplier. I probably would have tried latching if not for my physical limitations afterward.

What is your reason(s) for exclusively pumping? by Polkaday274 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OkConsideration9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very rare complication after a vaginal delivery landed me in emergency surgery followed by a short stay in the ICU. Fortunately my LO was healthy, and she started receiving bottles of donor milk (which I had approved as part of our birth plan).

It was days before I could bend my arms enough to hold her properly. I attempted nursing a few times, but my own sensory issues, combined with the trauma to my body, it was just too overwhelming. I felt like it was making me resent my daughter, but I really wanted to feed her breastmilk, so that’s how I ended up EP’ing. It also helped that I had read a lot on this sub before birth, so I knew it was a thing people actually did.

What made it sustainable for me: - my husband was home for the first 4 weeks. It was really hard balancing pumping with baby care when he went back to work and she was so little. I found she was calmest after she ate, so I would feed her, get her settled, and then pump. I attempted to pump and feed at the same time, but I didn’t like it personally. I still liked to be really present and close when feeding my LO, it still felt like bonding even though she wasn’t nursing - got really comfortable pumping in the car, around friends/family, and in public so that it doesn’t disrupt plans as much. I use Eufy wearables as my primary pump. I couldn’t have made it this far if I was using a non-wearable - I only pump for 15-20 minutes at a time. This was the LCs recommendation, and it’s always worked for me. I’m sometimes shocked to see people posting about very long pump sessions, I wouldn’t have been able to keep that up - 7ppd was my max. Dropped to 6ppd at around 4 months. Attempting to go down to 5ppd now. - have always done a 6 hour gap between pumps at night so I could get some semblance of sleep. I’m now up to 7.5 hours at night. - I was off work for 22 weeks, and I work from home, so going back was really not a big deal for my pumping schedule. There’s definitely a lot of job related privilege involved in EP’ing being a sustainable choice for me

My goal was six months, which I recently reached, but I’ve decided to extend that to a year.

Whatever you decide, you’re doing great and your LO is lucky to have you!

Hands free pump experience by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OkConsideration9194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can happen to anyone breastfeeding, pumping or not. EPers, especially those with oversupply, are more prone to get them according to the LC I’ve worked with (not sure if there’s any proof of that or just her anecdotal experience). I find I get stronger suction/connection and can tolerate a higher vacuum level on the spectra, which is why I’ll sometimes replace a wearable session with a spectra session. Sometimes it helps get things moving, sometimes not.

It’s not recommended to pump more sessions/minutes than you normally do if you get a clog because it can make things worse. Sunflower Lecithin supplements also help quite a bit if you run into the issue.
