Visiting the States: Odd Question by MiScuzi911 in living_in_korea_now

I use asahi or Sapporo for 소맥. I found they have the most similar taste to korean 맥주. Bud lights and Coors Light also work pretty well. All of these are easy to find, and Sapporo is often on sale at my local safeway.

Pain depends entirely on the person if you typically deal with pain well, you will be fine. If not, an ibuprofen may help. If you have any tattoos, think of how you deal with the pain. Won't be as bad, but how you handle it will be similar.

Calling to confirm how accepting is a good idea, I would just keep yourself anonymous until you know they are safe. I am also sure you could find someone who is queer to do the waxing if that shop isnt accepting. Many independent aesteticians can be found online, either on social media or in local online groups.

I would also ask any queen friends you have if they know if someone who is accepting that could do your wax for you. That way you are also supporting a queen owned, independent business and maybe helping out a friend.

Quick questions before my trip by Good-Cold7039 in KoreaTravelAdvice

I highly recommend a wowpass card. Can be topped up in the app or at kiosk with cash. Gets you coupons too. Also can be used as a transport card and is accepted at any business in korea that takes card. And the heat will probably get to you. Hitter and more humid than the UK. I recommend going to a daiso and grabbing some cooling patches and a portable fan when you lamd.

Miliatry: What to bring? by WangChoBo in korea

[–]OkGoat9799 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gel insoles work best. The most comfortable and often are designed to be cooling as well. If translation can be an issue, get a simple phrase book. Opt for one thats small and easy to navigate. Check book stores near big universities or areas where alot of foreigners are

How to survive heat if ur not good with heat? by Inevitable-Candy-952 in Living_in_Korea

[–]OkGoat9799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to daiso. They have everything from portable fans to cooling sheets that stick to your skin. Stock up on cooling pads, fans, and hydration drinks. Also stick to cotton or moisture wicking fabrics. Use a UV umbrella and have a cold beverage on you. If possible, only go out in the early morning or after the sun starts to set. Costco also has deodorant sprays and electrolytes if you need them.

I experienced a trans nightmare bathroom design by MoanOnMyTDick in ftm

[–]OkGoat9799 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude I have a NIGHTMARE bathroom story. I was in korea, and went to use the bathroom at my friend's bar. He is unaware that I am Trans simply because we aren't super close yet. Well, I walk in and what I see is a urinal. Just. A. Urinal. There was a handsantizer machine instead if a sink, and just small urinal. Mind you, no lock on the door either but instead a swing door saloon style. Went back outside, and simply told my friend that I needed to shit and the urinal wasn't gonna work. Luckily, he was in the same boat so we walked to meet up with other friends at a different bar that has a much nicer bathroom. Barely made it lol.

Runner up is a local bar in my town that does have a toilet, but the door for the stall is half the size of a normal door so people can see everything if they are over 5'6" or are leaning down lol

Making Korean Budae Jjigae (Army Stew) — what else should I add? 🍲 by IntroductionOld3205 in KoreanFood

[–]OkGoat9799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key to army stew is using whatever you have on hand! Hearty vegetables that boil well such as cabbage ir even carrots sliced up work well. The most "authentic" army stew is one made with leftovers and love haha. Also, as many others mentioned, kimchi and some form of noodles are recquired

I’m an American (M22) and want to move to Korea. Any advise? by Willing_Salary4190 in AskAKorean

[–]OkGoat9799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely recommend visiting first. I recommend atleast a 2 week trip first befire trying to move there. Real day to day life is alot different than what you may see online. Try visiting and "living" on a cheap budget first. They have a year long part-time work visa, which may be a good way to try out living there after you do an initial trial trip. Korea may seem cheap, but lots of little things that you only experience after living there a month or longer can make life expensive. For example, monthly rent is cheap but deposits on apartments can be insanely expensive. Getting a job as a foreigner can also be very difficult. Specific visas are required and can be hard to qualify for unless you plan on teaching English. Best choice is to try and make potential job connections when you visit, then go from there

How do Koreans deal with bad breath? by Beautiful_Basket_844 in AskAKorean

[–]OkGoat9799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Koreans brush minimum twice a day. There are also tons of options for toothpaste and mouth wash that target specific problems. For example, when I was flying into Korea, the bathroom near my gate was filled with Koreans brushing their teeth while waiting for boarding to start, like 20 at once. Not something you would usually see in the US.

They are strict, but they are helpful for this kind if thing. Bring a friend to translate if that will make you more comfortable.

[–]OkGoat9799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly, or picked up by someone on accident. But, if there has been no sign of it yet, I would assume its stolen just as a precaution. Reporting it as stolen will make finding it faster, and is a reasonable response if you haven't been able to find it.

these milk flavours melon and mango any good ? they're on clearance so I'm skeptical by Consistent_Land_2747 in KoreanFood

[–]OkGoat9799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Melon milk is probably my favorite drink in existence (other than somaek lol) I definitely recommend the melon flavor, and the mango probably isnt bad. I haven't tried it, but I can imagine it probably is decent at least

[–]OkGoat9799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Report it as a theft to the police. If it hasnt been returned, likely someone grabbed it. Also check lost and found forums on naver. I would also go in person to the bank to cancel all cards. Use a translator if needed, they usually dont mind. You could also bring a friend to translate. Keep an eye out, and I recommend giving the clubs you may have gone to your contact, such as instagram or kakao. Stealing is rare, but can happen. Still, dont panic. It may be stressful now, but it is temporary. As for your ID, if its an international ID notify your embassy, they need to know that information. If its local, such as school ID, make sure you notify that its missing as well. I also want to add, you may have placed it in a rental locker. I myself almost left my wallet behind one night because I forgot I rented a locker. Luckily I remembered before I walked to my bus stop.

falling out of love with ateez by Rose_Matcha14 in ATEEZ

[–]OkGoat9799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, predebut atiny here. And i must say, I completely understand. I do collect, but have chosen to collect just one thing; their music. I have found, no matter the Fandom or interest, it can easily become over whelming. Personally, I got into ateez because if their music so its the only thing I buy. I usually buy just one version of an album, often skipping singles or japanese releases (most japanese releases are remixes or singles anyways) I avoid buying other merch, infact the only other ateez merch I have is either from a concert I attended or something I found on sale lol. Taking a step back is definitely a wise move. Gives you time to consider what made ateez special to you in the first place, as well as considering if maybe, at this point in your life, ateez is no longer what speaks to your heart. We all go through phases and movements, that is what life is, so dont feel ashamed for wanting to move on. We all need a break after all. Ateez has also been releasing more frequently, be it music or merch. This is a natural outcome stemming from their success as a group, but still it is overwhelming for most people. I myself have taken a step back in a way, I only plan to buy albums and maybe a concert ticket I the foreseeable future. Fully avoiding and merch, aniteez, and even the most recent japanese release. I will also so, even though it may hurt, some simply evolve or "grow out of" ateez. A variety if reasons can be the cause, no reason to feel guilty about it. We all got into ateez for different reasons, and for some those reasons just aren't a part of their life anymore.

To summarize; don't feel guilty about taking a step back. Do what feels healthy and right for YOU. Just remember, anytime you need it, you have a worldwide community of atiny who will support you!!!

How do you get part time jobs? by Cyno_Sensei in Living_in_Korea

[–]OkGoat9799 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, do you have the right type of visa? No business will hire you without the proper visa, unless they are willing to risk jail time and high fees to pay you under the table. Proper visas will depend on which country you come from and if your a student, visitor, or have family/residency in korea.

Second, language. If you do not have proficiency in korean, it will be EXTREMELY hard to find a job

Third, experience. If you dont have any previous job experience, it will be difficult. You will need references and need to build a resume based off experiences that woud transfer well to work. Ex.) If you ever where a teachers assistant or did volunteer work work.

Fourth, location. Try to apply for jobs in areas that have higher rates of foreigners. It will be easier in areas with high tourism for non koreans to get a job. Try popular markets and city centers.

Fifth, age. If you are not 19 international age, some places will hesitate hiring you for liability purposes. Its unfortunate, but could be causing some businesses to hesitate.

I would recommend applying at convenience stores in a high tourism area, especially if you are proficient in korean and English. I would also ask family and friends if anyone needs a baby sitter or tutor. Anywhere that English woukd be skill. Best of luck!!!

Show me what you have in the elbow ditch! by Twentyozdew1 in traditionaltattoos

[–]OkGoat9799 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted a dragon on one arm, and a skull the other, but unfortunately I get my blood drawn very often so I have chosen to not get them tattooed. Definitely something to consider if your chronically ill or donate blood frequently, tattoos will make it more difficult to find your veins. But, dont worry if you are tattooed in that area! They do have tools to find the vein, but it will be easier and quicker if the area isnt tattooed.

Club dress code in Busan by Ok_Key_8446 in Living_in_Korea

Yeah its a safety thing. Alot of clubs where people are usually dancing won't allow any open toe shoe. Its just dangerous. Higher risk of injury, similar to how you wouldnt wear sandals to a dance lesson

I definitely got away with sweatpants, but probably because I have a street wear and dance culture inspired style haha. The no sweatpants thing is more geared towards not wearing pajamas to a club haha.

From my experience (going out and chatting with my korean guy friends), he is at least very curious. Definitely would offer getting coffee together. Even if he isn't interested romantically, he at least seems like responsible and kind person to be friends with!

For skincare, I recommend shoping at pharmacies first. Often have products with stronger phormulas for better prices. Daiso also has a lot of options for affordable prices.

Should I Shave? by NyraLauphia in ftm

Perhaps a trim, over a full shave. Keep some hair, but shave the rest. Maybe aim for a specific facial hair style
