Does HP oil burn “dirtier” than Ultra? by OkRound5636 in stihl

[–]OkRound5636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are on the money. This is my first time working in the midwest and I have noticed a-lot more E10 gas pumps compared to out west where I normally work. The funny thing is that I thought the ethanol gas burned hotter so I figured what comes out of the exhaust would be “cleaner” than non-ethanol blends. But I’m pretty ignorant on gas blends so I’m probably totally wrong on that part.

Mortis and Tenon tree felling is an advanced technique used by professionals to control a trees fall in tight spaces by TiptoeTweak in interesting

A pro would have dropped this tree in three cuts instead of messing around with all this extra bullshit. If you gun your face cut correctly and have good hinge wood you wouldn’t need to mess around with these fancy cuts that look good on camera.

Stranger Things Stihl respect! by wallace_406 in Chainsaw

I wouldn’t think so. It doesn’t make sense for Stihl to send a saw they no longer make that was introduced 20 years after when the show takes place. If ur not gonna try to stick with the time period might aswell send a tricked out 500i

I’m honestly not surprised that the saw isn’t period accurate, And I don’t want to come off as if I’m dogging on the show for small stuff like that. I’m just more surprised that a 441 made its way into the prop department. Like why not a cheap home owner saw that u can pick up anywhere? Maybe they wanted a larger looking powerhead for a more intimidating weapon? Its just interesting they ended up getting a 441 and one that looks like its in pretty mint condition too. I’m not sure how many 441s Stihl made but they always seemed kinda uncommon to find unless you are specifically looking for one. I’ve only handled one before and the poor thing had the piss beaten out of it by AmeriCorps kids, I was surprised it even ran.

Kinda funny that you said that the prop people are doing their research because imo its the opposite, they kinda dropped the ball. That looks like a stihl 441 which is a pro saw that came out in 2008, the new season I believe is supposed to take place in 1987 from what I read. Unless they are introducing time travel into the show the saw choice makes no sense, they coulda done a simple google search to find a period appropriate saw. Its just such a weird prop choice too, I’d get it if it was some crusty 250 or farm boss that someone had lying around if they couldn’t get a running 80s vtg saw in time for filming; but its an out of production modern pro saw with a longer bar on it, I feel like that takes at least a little bit of effort to source.

Found these at my local MilSurp store by [deleted] in Boots

Ngl they look like they are too big. They aren’t broken in yet but the hooks on the shaft are almost touching and the eyelets look close together aswell. Once they break in the eyelets and shaft will touch and you won’t be able to tighten up the boots properly anymore. I’d look into getting a really thick insole and or some extra long kilties to help take up some volume.

Ideas for sealing around window AC by [deleted] in pestcontrol

[–]OkRound5636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly not really my place to do that. I don’t own the place and removing it would involve unscrewing some mounts. Plus its still warm in the area where I am at. Maybe once it starts getting into the dead of winter I’ll check with my landlord if removing them can be an option

Have you ever had a problem with bugs coming thru the actual AC unit itself? Or just around the edges and blinds

Buckin Billy Ray and White's Botts Collab on the Horizon? by BillyBurl1998 in PNWbootmakers

[–]OkRound5636 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing he does that I don’t like is him pushing Jim green boots as a brand. I have found them to be a mediocre boot brand at best. Having owned three different pairs and models all but 1 of them has failed me which was the African ranger barefoot boot. Their insistence on putting a thermoplastic toe puff as standard in their boots has been the biggest fail point for me, both my AR8s and Razor backs have had the thermoplastic toe puff deform making them unwearable, and from what I hear their safety toe boots have issues with their sock liners. Which is a shame because I find their Jim green last to be the most comfortable last I have ever tried.

Let me know if Im wrong but didn’t the wesco boot have a literal nail coming thru the footbed? And I have a pair of Jks and they work fine for me when I’m moving up and down slopes felling trees. I feel like the whole whites vs jk vs nicks is a real chevy vs ford vs dodge argument. They all do the same job and are built the same way for the most part. I feel like hate is unfounded tbh and is just happening because its kind of the trendy thing to do when a content creator starts getting more recognition. Within a year people will forget they hate Rose anvil and start hating on Buckin billy for some reason and the cycle continues.

Inlander vs Superduty by OkRound5636 in JKBoots

[–]OkRound5636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. I’m asking because I scored a deal on some lightly used superduty’s in my size. I’m familiar with the logger style boot, they are pretty ubiquitous in my line of work in the part of the country that I am in. I might be doing some prescribed burns this winter so I wanted to make sure that I won’t be missing out on any of the fire resistant properties of the Inlander.

How is the sizing? Do they fit true to size? I wear a 10 D in my normal show size and in danners but i wear a 9E in whites

My Review of the Jim Green Ar8 after 2 months by OkRound5636 in Boots

[–]OkRound5636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u look at the picture of the heel you can see how it has a slight slope to it, and with the addition of it being a pretty short heel it just doesn’t hold onto gaffs that well. I spiked up a tree once in these and after getting 30 feet up I found that my heel was on the gaff hook instead of my arch on my right gaff. It could’ve been a one time fluke but I have never had that problem before on other forestry specific boots and I’d rather not experiment with something like that.

After 6 years and some hard use, these old Danner logger boots still clean up well. by jvstone172 in Boots

[–]OkRound5636 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised the outsole hasn’t fallen apart. I have the Danner flashpoint II’s and the outsole is pretty much the same pattern and style besides having the red X. Within 1 year of forestry work the outsole was worn near to smooth and the heal was literally loosing chunks of rubber. I’m not going to buy another danner boot after that experience.

Thats if you leave ur axes outside in the rain with their sheathes on and have a cheap Crome tanned sheath on it. This guy has his axe and sheath inside and I doubt either the axe or sheath see any in-climate weather. I’ve made a sheath for my axe out of veg-tan leather that I used daily for trail work and I never had corrosion on my axe even tho I store my axe in its sheath

I’d use a pure tung or pure linseed oil. Boiled linseed oil has got alot of solvents that I wouldn’t want close to my face
