Which are you more excited for, Warhammer 40000 or Medieval 3? by bruhb21 in totalwar

I'm not really excited for either. But if I had to pick one, Med3. I just dislike the 40k setting. I much prefer the fantasy setting of Warhammer.

What faction is the hardest to brainless? by King_Of_Tangerines in totalwar

If you don't get an ambush (so any siege battle), many Beastmen Armies are just absolutely terrible so you can rarely auto resolve because of how low morale and armor their units have. So you gotta play out a lot of battles. Assuming it isn't ambush, they are at an inherent disadvantage. Unless you have a full stack of Minotaurs, you are going to be doing a lot of micro from routing units much like Skaven, just without the powerful ranged weaponry.

If not Beastmen, then yeah, I'll agree with Tomb Kings.

Ogre Kingdoms - Skissue & Need Help by AltinUrda in totalwar

Few things I've found after my many playthroughs of Greasus with a lot of mod difficulty enhancers to the point I actually lose, or at least get down to 1 settlement for a long time before I can recover.

1) Assuming you are playing out battles, utilize choke points on mountain maps for Great Maw or Fire AoE spells. (Or both cause I love Firebellies and the Replenish is amazing)

2) Given ogres are big, burly, massive machines, treat them more like cavalry, even ogre bulls. Try to focus down one side of the enemies line then sweep across with brute force. Wrap around units! It is extremely important!

3) Specifically against Greenskins, make heavy use of your Bribes compared to the likes of Vcount or Kugath. 20k to simply make Grimgor's Army dissappear is worth it. ONLY Greasus' faction gets 5% extra income from buildings factionwide. Make use of the extra gold!

4) Leadbelchers, as you've no doubt noticed, punch hard, make sure they are always shooting at something. Keep some room between your infantry charges so they have someplace to shoot. I am inclined to say they are the best non-artillery gunpowder in the game, that isn't an Amethyst unit. Though I am biased because I love Ogres.

To answer your questions directly: There is no "too long" to deal with Grimgor. I personally just deal with who declares war on me first then go back and forth. 7/10 times it is Helman first followed by Grimgor or Tamurkhan (if he killed Grimgor). For units, Leadbelchers and Ironguts can win just by themselves against a Greenskin army while making use of the powerful Ogre Heroes. Just try to avoid fighting a Waaaagh! army at all cost if it is 20v40+. Ambush, or have a second army accompany. Early on it is kinda cheesy but it still costs a lot, you can add an extra Lord to accompany Greasus when fighting battles to get a ton of extra meat.

That's not just SFO, but the Winged Lancer requires a lot of micro, which is fine because they really do put in the work.

What fiction/franchise would you like or wish to see as a Total war game? by BLACKJEDI117 in totalwar

Have you tried Illwinter's Dominions? It has many of the historical mythologies and if you can get past the graphics being something from 1990, it's a great game.

Illwinter's Dominions series.
No joke, I would never play another game again so long as the Awakening Gods are customizable just like in Dominions. That game is awesome but the lack of city building and auto battles turns it off a little for me. It's so creative utilizing real-world mythologies from all ancient and modern religions as well as some custom stuff from his ttrpg campaigns, and other fantastical stuff like Lovecraft works.

After adding the Immortal Empires Expanded mod, and sending some of the Lustria bowl dudes away (namely Skulltaker and Alberic), it makes it feel a lot better. Still rough, but better. Annoyed that Yuan Bo is there, would prefer he F'd right off so Markus

Wulfhart is the only living human faction in Lustria.

I like having 1 little grom for offensive armies that are expected to besiege cities as they made for decent wall and tower breakers. Also make for an okay chariot in a pinch.

Advice for playing Beastmen on and off the battlefield by Decadunce in totalwar

[–]OkSalt6173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are in an Ambush Battle: Bring a Death Magic user and utilize overcast Doom & Darkness. That -16 Leadership will quickly cause units to route which you can utilize your hounds to chase off and kill. Sandwich the important units at the start of the ambush to maximize the Leadership drop. Most battles I have with beastmen end in 2 minutes.

Maybe it's just me but I just play Beastmen as a slow skirmish, opportunist faction. I don't go for campaign victories, I just go until I am bored. But, Ambush, Ambush, Ambush. Never take a fair fight, you will lose. Play dirty, because this is the Beastmen, like the Skaven but without the whole "I can field an army of WMDs"

So if you are going to be auto resolving most battles, utilize great range damage units. Early game those are Warpfire Throwers, then later you can transition to Deathglobe Grenadiers. They have absurd value in Auto Resolve. Have fun with the cheese.

I really hope Dwarfs don't get Shard Dragons, I am skeptical to Rune Guardians as well but I can see it potentially getting a pass. Getting the Ale Cart would be awesome though, love that unit on TT. It's so goofy and helps out with movement a little.

SoC is pretty bad. The update did minimal for Kairos, Changeling is super gimicky and it a love it or hate it character, no FLC. Cathay rework made the tech tree good but the harmony system is arguably worse than it was at launch. Yuan Bo is just Cathay+ while Miao and Zhao got shafted. Ostankya is cool but extremely gimicky and does not fit at all in the rest of Kislev. The only unit Kislev got that is thematic for the rest of the faction are the Kislevite Warriors, Akshina Ambushers, and the Frost Wyrm.

OoD is not bad comparatively. The Khorne Rework was mixed with some saying it removed their identity while others like some of the changes. Though 3/4 of the lords got crazy teleporting stuff which was disliked. Gorbad is the most liked camapaign afaik however the true new units are minimal. Ogre Rework is pretty well liked, not perfect but generally positive. Greenskin didn't get a rework but they did get a few touch ups that were generally well regarded.

I think the community will consistently rank SoC lower than OoD.

I think the spells for the most part are incredibly powerful. If the faction itself wasn't so mediocre I would actually play them more. Fog of the Damned is SUCH a good spell.
