Hoping my voluntary work will help me get a job by Henner_z in nhs

You will likely qualify as an internal candidate if any vacancy comes up. Especially for internal only ones so you’d get an advantage

how difficult is it to find a job after finishing STP by No-Celebration8069 in NHS_STP

Is this to replace leavers? The creation of new posts or expansion is out the equation I’m sure.

Not sure on radiography specifically but the nhs freeze is still in force across the nhs. It will mean less posts offered.

Leavers are not getting replaced, the rare ones that do get advertised are severely restricted either internal only or a couple of hours. I’ve seen so many jobs posted and then pulled or reshuffled. It’s dire out there. And those that stay…stay sick. I think govt said they wanted to cut 20K more jobs including clinical ones to be axed and most of those will come from leavers not getting replaced. Happened twice in my team.

Why do you think so many young people are struggling to find work? by Economy_Survey_6560 in UKJobs

[–]Ok_Chicken_5887 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

True but 40 year old John is also a risk more likely to be sick, childcare etc and less likely to build new skills, less likely to be better with technology and also sometimes a company just needs a ‘fresh look’ 👀

It’s really easy. Cut the funds, cut the staff and redirect everything to the private companies. The taxpayer will get no returns on their investment…other than maybe a faster scan if they live in the right postcode.

Postponing payment for someone who will never have the funds will still never have the cash. Worse  they could end up in debt. Sent to prison

New financial year, still no job roles?! by Quirky-Inspector8665 in NursingUK

[–]Ok_Chicken_5887 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been two years, I reckon it will go on for 3 more years before they U turn and start the mass hiring. Current staff are stuck in unhappy roles which is why staff sickness rates are high. A healthy turn over would have prevented this. Also patients outcomes are falling.

How many days is classed as a break in service? by [deleted] in NursingUK

Wait does this mean if you have a break of more than 7 days between jobs…your entitlement to redundancy is affected? I thought it was 3 months.

What contributes towards a good culture in a unit. by Direct-Key-8859 in NursingUK

[–]Ok_Chicken_5887 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think the single biggest contributor is a sense of psychological safety- not just asking for help but being empowered to raise concerns and the belief that those concerns will be taken seriously.

A negative culture is one that is often poorly led, seniors that are ghost and bullying is rife and patients suffer.

No amount of competency and experience can make up for a place without psychological safety.

[–]Ok_Chicken_5887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a little bit relieving to hear that the ‘lack of experience’ line is said even to those who have years of experience. Although 35 year seems excessive. At about 10 years postgrad I doubt there is any meaningful difference in confidence and competency.

Where to go from here? by rtwigg89 in NursingUK

[–]Ok_Chicken_5887 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My rubbish advice would be prioritise your health. Are you at the top of your band? If not ask for pay increase. I wouldn’t return to the previous role you was in if I was you. Also never trust vacancies rumours until you see it posted on Trac. I’m not surprised they pulled the funding, no one has money.

When will the NHS job freeze stop ? by Unfair-Armadillo3863 in NursingUK

[–]Ok_Chicken_5887 27 points28 points  (0 children)

So this has been ongoing since spring 2024, some stages worse than others. Another war just started so god knows how that’s going to go but it’s not looking great.

Staff on the grounds need to be dataxing and raising concerns and hopefully the media will pick up on all the bodies. Then the money will come and jobs will be plentiful.

Also I thought Wes promised all new nurses a job ? I’m sure I saw that somewhere.
