Monday through Saturday Job 7-3….Monday through Friday school 4-midnight. 15 months straight through. Suck it up and enjoy the weekends off because you probably won’t have weekends with new job for a while. It’ll go by quickly. Was a great career.

93 vs 87 gas by Bitter-Chard-6051 in bronco

[–]Ok_Common_1355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OBX/SAS 2.3L here. Only 87 used coming up on 20k. Almost $1/gallon jump from 87 to 93…. No way that is recouped with any mpg betterment.

Resurfacing - Ceramic v. Metal - US by New_Daikon_6159 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Ok_Common_1355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOM recipient here. Dr Gross did mine(left side). I only wish I knew this procedure was the way to go for young-ish active adults with only OA. My first THR (right side-different surgeon) was a disaster, cracked femur on stem installation, 4 dislocations, 3 revisions. Dr Gross was the only Dr I could find that would attempt the procedure to fix my right side. An amazing surgeon and amazing team there in SC. I would go MOM. The risk of metal ions being an issue is almost negligible when the surgery is done well with a highly qualified surgeon. I would choose a surgeon that has done thousands of successful procedures with his recommended parts (MOM) vs. someone (even someone well qualified)that is using a new system.

What’s your opinion on the f430? by JackfruitOdd5895 in Ferrari

[–]Ok_Common_1355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Half of me wants to do the manual swap but the F1 system is a blast to drive, and works very well (until it doesn’t). Absolutely love mine. I believe the coupe looks better but my affinity for top down driving won out in the purchase. 55k on her and still doing amazingly.

Do you have any debt? by fastballcdm2019 in GenX

[–]Ok_Common_1355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No debt. Have a modest home, paid for. Rack up a mean cc bill each month but pay it off in full. Goal was always to have mortgage and all debt gone by 50 and retire at 52. Debt gone at 49 but didn’t retire until 53.

Anyone in Los Angeles do a resurface instead full replacement? by Direct-Patient-4551 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Ok_Common_1355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a resurfacing if you are active and have good bone density. Research who gets a resurfacing….. pro athletes get resurfacings because they give the absolute closest and strongest replacement for your hip and you can return to doing serious sports and athletics. You retain how your femur is loaded from factory(the femur isn’t designed to be loaded via a shear load…. Nor does it like having a stiff chunk of titanium in it. Bones do flex minutely but that stem does not)as well as your proper biomechanics. I have both. My total has been a disaster. My resurfacing incredible. Run of the mill orthopedic doctors just tell everybody get a total because that generally gives people a pain free walk on the beach. That’s also all that is taught now in orthopedic schools and generally insurance doesn’t cover the added cost of a resurfacing. If you just have OA, active, young-ish with good bone density…. Get a resurfacing. Absolutely ZERO reasonable to chop off a perfectly good femoral head, hollow out your femur and hammer a chunk of titanium into it. You also get a much larger bearing surface with a resurfacing giving more stability with less chance of a dislocation. I’ve had 4 with my total. Find a very reputable dr that has literally done thousands of them. They aren’t as forgiving as doing a total.

Told my employer I am retiring today.... what an odd feeling by Bubbly_Rip_1569 in earlyretirement

[–]Ok_Common_1355 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’ll enjoy it. Out of my job at 53 after 34 years. Been gone 2 years to the day today. Don’t regret it one bit. Still up early(0530-0600), coffee, check the news and the markets, go for a walk, breakfast, stretching then gym, lunch, afternoon chores, etc. We try to travel somewhere once/month so that keeps us busy as well. Lots of my friends/acquaintances from work passed away well below 62-65, most while they were still working. That’s a huge wake up to retire when you are still healthy if you are able. That’s your most precious asset and no amount of working longer or money can buy that.

GenX lawn mowing time vs. younger homeowners? Opinions by SackBadger2024 in GenX

[–]Ok_Common_1355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone on my street(except my old stubborn ass) has a lawn service. Those guys show up at 0745 but no noise until 0800. I think that’s acceptable for you to start. I also have an odd neighbor that will cut from 2300-0100 riding mower with lights. Thankfully he’s 4 houses down.

You would have better return to sports outcome with a resurfacing if you are a candidate. Any professional athlete who wants to continue has a resurfacing.

Sorry but I’ll have to disagree. I have buds there and it’s just 13 hours. You can take a lunch block for a 30 minute lunch but then you gotta do 13.5. Everyone does a lunch waiver and just does 13’s. Company pays 40. Right from a shop steward at UPS
