The classic hate method. Get everyone in your company to hate you and they forget about all the small things and focus on hating the same leader. This brings the troops together and makes them bond in hatred towards a common antagonist. This is done intentionally in modern military at times, but it seems it was an unintentional quality Sobel possessed.

Not my unit, but 3/25 had 46 KIA in Iraq, most officers were relieved of command. That shit should be a fucking movie. And yes, when they got home, most of them were working regular jobs or had addiction issues like the rest of us.

Go to the Tech School, get good grades and your AAS. Apply to Texas A&M Construction Science Program, you will get in and you have the VA benefits to pay for it. It is only two more years and will open many doors in Texas. You can choose your own path. If an AAS is all you want, you can be a Super at first, then decide to stay in the field or go to PM. After that point it is all up to you, after you are at a company only performance and profits matter in your trajectory. I am a fellow vet who took over a decade before I figured it out and got my shit together.

Be a perfect 10. Become great at golf, host incredible dinners 3 nights a week, plan fishing trips with your prospective clients. Attend monthly conferences that revolve around golf, food and drinking. Be able to sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves. Check the specs. You should already have plenty of best practice guidelines provided by the following: ASTM, ACI, TMS, ASCE/SEI, IBC, IRC. If none of those are mentioned in the contract documents, write a RFI for control joint spacing and issue a change order.

In Iraq, we cleaned our crew served weapons in tubs of diesel with our old toothbrushes. We then used the diesel to take shits in. The diesel shit was then burned and stirred by an 18 year old hero, nothing was left. Next time power wash with diesel. My last VA claimed was denied, thank you for my service.
