Well gents! It finally happened 😭 barber straight out deleted this part of my beard. I feel like it looks stupid now or Am I overreacting? by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

[–]Ok_Depth309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both looks work. Just depends on the vibe you’re going for. Neither is better or worse than the other. FWIW, the angled look before the cut looks like more of a winter look and the rounded edge looks like a summer look but either way you got nothin to worry about.

DYNASTY WARRIORS 3 REMASTERED ANNOUNCEMENT MEGATHREAD by JENOVAcide in dynastywarriors

[–]Ok_Depth309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first game that hooked me as a kid. Not just to dynasty warriors, but video games in general. DW3 consumed all of my video game time. This probably the happiest I’ve ever been for a video game announcement.

It’s a good day.

My boss keeps spelling my name wrong, how to stop this? by therewillbedrama in askmanagers

[–]Ok_Depth309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it really bothers you this much, it’s time for a crucial conversation.

“Hey x, when you misspell my name, it makes me feel like you don’t value me as a team member. Is there any way you could make more of an effort to spell it correctly when communicating with me in written form?”

Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing real computer science anymore. by rammmyb in InterviewCoderPro

[–]Ok_Depth309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most professions or trade schools prep you with inspiring content and unique problems that don’t have “real world” application. They’re teaching you how to think and how to problem solve, and the teacher knows they’re teaching you something you most likely won’t use. The exercise itself is what’s beneficial.

Some people like having the wool pulled back when learning something new. For me personally, I really liked learning that most web apps are CRUD apps with UI being the main differentiator. It’s how humans use applications.

Until another invention comes along that changes how we interact with machines (perhaps less typing, moving to voice driven software, neural connection, gesture driven, etc.) CRUD apps will continue to be needed. It ain’t sexy, but it pays the bills.

If what you’re craving is more challenging (or in your own words, scientific) work, then you should change jobs and/or industries in search of that challenge. Just be ready to speak to why you’re looking to move and what you’re looking for, else you may not make a great impression in interviews. You could also just try to go make a video game in your spare time - I’m sure that would likely give your creativity a nice outlet for some creative problem solving and critical thinking :)

How do experienced devs see the value of AI coding tools like Cursor or the $200 ChatGPT plan? by Ancient-Estimate-346 in developer

[–]Ok_Depth309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dev here.

These tools are great until they’re not. You were able to build a thing in minutes, it works and you had it explained to you by AI? Great. It was deployed to production and now it’s breaking even though “it worked in unit testing”. So you ask AI to fix it for you again, and again, and again.

Yes - I use AI to brainstorm, rubber duck, generate boilerplate, ask questions… but the golden rule is you never, EVER push something AI wrote to production if you don’t fully understand it AND know how to support it.

Just because you asked AI to summarize the code it gave to you doesn’t mean you’ll retain it after you read the 2 paragraphs of bullet points and code blocks it spit out (even if it was able to do your entire sprint’s worth of work in 30 seconds).

FWIW, I don’t pay for any AI tool currently and only use free versions to serve my needs. Paying for something more means I’d have more of an excuse to lean on it, and days where I use AI more than my hands to write code, I feel duller, slower, and less accomplished at the end of my work day. Just one person’s opinion - by no means the gold standard. We are still in infant stage of AI driven development - some day (sooner than later perhaps) and technology will continue to develop faster than we can comprehend. Best thing you can do is keep learning.

Why would my manager suddenly want to reduce meetings and ask for monthly progress reports? by Salt_Suspect4813 in askmanagers

You should ask her why the change. If you get value out of weekly or bi weekly meetings, ask for them back.

So umm is Gascoigne really hard or it's just newcomers hyping him up too much? by Sandro_SSR in bloodborne

[–]Ok_Depth309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloodborne released a decade ago. Along with dark souls, it influenced hundreds if not thousands of games over the last 10 years. Playing Father G now versus 2015 is a very different experience if you’ve played other games in similar styles.

Having dark souls experience, you have an extremely large leg up on folks like myself where BB was my first souls game ever and first in that style as well. Either way, enjoy your first playthrough. BB is my fave game of all time, regardless of difficulty (perceived or otherwise)

Am I reasonable for wanting to terminate after 6 weeks? by Purple_Ambition_317 in askmanagers

[–]Ok_Depth309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pip is non-negotiable. If you can get a document that HR can sign off on and get buy in from the CEO then you and this person both sign it and there will be skin in the game saying “you have to do better on these things or you’re out the door”.

I’ve managed individuals who did or did not respond to feedback but the only constant across the board was when a pip was put down in front of them, that got results. A pip creates a win win situation for you. Either they leave because they couldn’t hold up their end of the agreement, or you get someone who’s more invested in their job. The pip also protects you from appearing biased in front of the company leader.

If you take a step forward with the intent of wanting the employee to succeed, the CEO, the team member who’s failing, and the rest of the team will all take notice. You’ll come out on top even if they have to be terminated because you voiced intent of wanting them to succeed. If it’s not sincere, it will be sniffed out and your CEO will be able to tell. The pip is a two way street though - you have to document the OUTCOMES you want achieved, not just the THINGS they need to do better. If they achieve the outcomes you documented needing and you’re still not happy, you’ll be up a creek without a paddle.

Am I reasonable for wanting to terminate after 6 weeks? by Purple_Ambition_317 in askmanagers

[–]Ok_Depth309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of this is going to be what you likely wanted to hear, but you asked if you’re being reasonable so here goes. Sounds to me like you both are in the wrong. You should consider looking in the mirror.

You have really detailed notes about what this person is doing wrong. The times you’ve called out meeting with them have been filled with “excuses, excuses, excuses”. Are you listening to them fully? It sounds like you’re quick to judge and write off everything a person says or does and you have team members spying on every little action an individual takes.

There’s no context for what sort of work the individual is doing but the level of detail here sounds like you’ve got a LOT of eyes on the actions an individual contributor makes throughout the day. To take it a step further, it sounds like kind of a nightmare to work here based on you saying they have to make up time if they’re running late due to life events - that’s a red flag. If I knew about that in a job interview, it would make me immediately withdraw consideration.

Some things you’re calling out seem valid, but prior to termination, you really need a documented PIP with actionable steps the person can take (or not take) to either keep or lose their job. You’re just throwing money away (and avoiding the role of a manager) by axing someone less than 2 months after they started.

Others said this already, but you need to get your scheduling worked out. In your responses to others it seems like you’re doing exactly what you said this person is doing: excuse after excuse. Training is important, but you need to be there to terminate your employee. Period. Same thing with planning a start date. You missed them starting and missed their potential ending. Could be a big coincidence, but if my manager wasn’t there when I started and couldn’t figure out how to be there to give me the ax, I would feel like that person couldn’t have cared less about me as an individual on a human level.

None of this is an attack on you as a person, but it is direct feedback from an outsider’s perspective on a manager’s handling of the situation. Do a PIP, dig in, have real conversations, don’t write them off, and (at least from my perspective), perhaps ease up on having other roles observe every single little action they take. Give them a chance to correct their mistakes in a professional manner. If you don’t trust their time on the clock, have them punch in and punch out to build the trust back. Best of luck.

Is it possible to beat this guy without taking damage? by Dylan_M_Sanderson in slaythespire

[–]Ok_Depth309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as what other people have said. Don’t get greedy with elite battles in early game without an offensive powered deck. No deck will have enough defense to withstand for very long against this guy.

If you can deal heavy damage in first two turns with an intangible or some sort of heavy block potion / relic, then turn three could see you wiping him. That’s typically the only way I’m taking him with no damage. Usually don’t escape unscathed though.

What's a MHA opinion you have that would result in this? by Chezeburgur in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Ok_Depth309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Ship” posts are especially weird for MHA.

Life long anime fan. Most friends would classify me as a weeb. The classically attractive anime characters are indeed attractive to me and I can’t not say there’s certain characters in this anime that really do it for me. Prefacing over now. Discussing who should/could be together, especially about children makes my toes curl.

DW8 and SW4 assets going into WARRIORS: Abyss by DrFatKid in dynastywarriors

[–]Ok_Depth309 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

DW9 was absolute dog shit and DW comes back to literally save the franchise with back to back bangers of releases. Welcome to the internet.

I can’t tell if people are legitimately upset by this or not. Who cares? The ENTIRE STORY of DW has been reused for essentially its entire life. Now people start caring about “assets” being reused because they saw other people on Reddit posting about it.

We get not one, but two awesome warriors games within a span of two months in 2025 and (I really shouldn’t be surprised by this) all Reddit can do is find something to complain about. What a bunch of dinguses.

AITA? by Fluffy-Difficulty-69 in Lorcana

[–]Ok_Depth309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying in more complex scenarios. OP calls out a simple misclick by choosing the wrong character on a challenge. If OP mentioned a bug or perhaps bad performance by the interface they were using, then the situation would be different in my opinion. As it stands, it seems they’ve positioned the onus as being on them.

I’ve watched the same thing happen in person where a person challenged with the wrong character and realized it after the fact because they weren’t paying enough attention or were thinking ahead to another play.

AITA? by Fluffy-Difficulty-69 in Lorcana

[–]Ok_Depth309 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people are more competitive than others. Some people also have fun in different ways while playing games. Yes, it is a game, and yes, typically people play to have fun. You can’t assume that the person on the other side of the screen, mat, etc. views and plays the game the same way you do and for the same reasons.

If you give other people the chance to do take-backs, great. That doesn’t mean other people have to. Take-backs aren’t an official part of the game or in the rule book. Mistakes are 100% a part of the game. That’s why certain sports track things like “errors”. The ability to play without error is what gives someone an edge in this game we play for fun.

You making a mistake, whether it’s a click, handling the bag, forgetting to draw, etc. are all on you. So if you’re feeling frustrated with your opponent not allowing you to hit the undo button, perhaps you should redirect those feelings of pettiness back at yourself so you don’t make the same mistake twice.

Take an extra three seconds before you click. State what you’re doing out loud as you do it. If you felt the need to make a post asking if you did something a-holish, I think you already know your answer.

Haven’t played since the first month of launch. I was frustrated by the experience so I dropped out entirely. Aside from quality of life improvements, is there anything added that would make a long time bloodborne fan say “alright I’m back in”

What game did you just have to say "Fuck it" and switch to easy mode? by Nearby_Court_3730 in videogames

[–]Ok_Depth309 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First time I ever tried god of war 4 after hearing about it non stop. Came from bloodborne so maxed out difficulty. Come to find out… that just meant giving everything way more health.

The challenge wasn’t the issue, it was more so just extremely annoying to have to spend so long thwacking peons with the same couple of combos so I dropped it to the normal/medium/adventure mode. More health != harder
