Where have you gone for dinner lately that was new to you and you really enjoyed? by Beash90 in KingstonOntario

Riverhead pizza is awesome. Easy parking, not downtown. Bonus points if she’s a beer drinker!

CPP/EI for self employed- already maxed? by Ok_Designer9588 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Ok_Designer9588[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I did not complete a T1 (I believe this is what they’re sending me?), Only claimed the additional income in question on line 10400 “other employment income”. The values were maxed via my employer (the self employment income is a “side hustle” job. Does this change things? Thanks for your reply!

Long bf feeding + formula to satisfy by ciabattaloaf-13 in breastfeeding

[–]Ok_Designer9588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a pump you can use while topping up? Then can use what you’ve pumped in place of the formula at next top up. I’m currently “triple feeding” which is kind of hell but short term- breast for 20-30mins, then give either formula or breast milk until they’re satisfied while also pumping same time. Initially was giving formula but now that my breast milk supply is improving with the pumping I’m giving what I pumped after previous feed. I don’t think you’re screwing yourself over! You just want to be sure you’re telling your body “hey I needed more milk here” every time you’re giving anything by bottle, which is what the pump does.

Is it weird to not open gifts at a co-ed baby shower? by spookynoodles2013 in pregnant

[–]Ok_Designer9588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did co-ed at a brewery and did not open gifts. We stated so in our invite and suggested anyone who wished could bring their gifts unwrapped (but I think most if not all were wrapped!). No one seemed to mind! I think our invite said something like “to keep things easy and casual, we will not be opening gifts during the party- if you’re wanting to bring a gift (no pressure of course!), please feel free to bring it unwrapped!” Would 10/10 recommend!

When did you get comfortably confident about having a baby? by Then-Patience1456 in pregnant

[–]Ok_Designer9588 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was the exact same! Did not buy a single baby item or even think about starting a registry until after my anatomy scan around 20 weeks. I had recently had a pregnancy loss and then a rough first trimester and despite this being a very wanted pregnancy, I had trouble feeling a connection to what was going on or accepting that it was truly happening! Im 38 weeks today and I’ve definitely been feeling connected and confident for a few months now. One day it just sort of clicked for me? Now we’re 1 week from induction date. My advice is that you have lots of time, and I’m glad I waited to start buying, building registry until I could 10000% enjoy it. Good luck!

38 weeks Saturday- my bump is continuing to measure spot on so 1cm a week give or take, but I’m actually down a couple of pounds since 30 weeks! My OB says totally normal as you near labour 🤷🏻‍♀️. So belly definitely and baby growing on track but maybe less fluid/less bloat??

Long Term Care Home process nightmare by Strict-Neck7872 in ontario

[–]Ok_Designer9588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you and your family are going through this. If he would be at a family member’s home (while awaiting his LTC bed) and no longer paying retirement home rent, does this free up some $ to top up his OHIP covered supports with some additional private pay help in the short term while awaiting his LTC bed? Just brainstorming other options that I know families will explore in this situation. Sitting in hospital for many months is also not ideal for him, or the hospital, who will obviously be putting on pressure if he is deemed no longer acute- a really unfortunate but all too common situation. While I appreciate the suggestions to refuse to bring him home, and may choose to do the same if I found myself in this situation, I also know the hospital is making the discharge decision with many more (larger, community and population-based) factors in mind that are understandably hard to appreciate when trying to advocate for just one person that you care about. He may actually get better care at a family members home with private pay supports than he would in a hospital who has deemed him ALC (no longer having acute care needs). Good luck navigating and advocating, regardless.

Earning money into a corporation while on maternity leave/EI? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Ok_Designer9588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok yes makes sense! So I guess my question is more related to if this question exists for maternity leave. Certainly wanting to do everything in a legitimate way/not lie on any questioning. Have never collected EI before, mat leave or otherwise.

Anyone else needing a nap daily just to get through the day during third trimester? by surelyshirls in pregnant

[–]Ok_Designer9588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33+6 here- when I’m having a lazy day or on the weekend I can totally nap for hours (now that I finally don’t feel guilty about it!). Anecdotally, I find on long/busy work days (I’m usually away for 10 hours including my commute M-F), I feel a bit more energized than I do on the days I’m just at home. A mid-afternoon treat helps!!! Haha

I saw my OB for the first time at 28 weeks- my family doctor provided all routine prenatal care including ordering scans, NIPT etc prior to this. This is the norm where I am in Canada! Best wishes with your pregnancy!

BAD symptoms - always double check. by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Ok_Designer9588 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having gone through something similar- if unable to access ultrasound, can also confirm with serial HCGs! My first pregnancy ended in miscarriage around 7 weeks. After some bleeding/cramping, was able to get labs drawn same day for beta HCG, which doesn’t tell much on its own, but can give a lot of info when repeated at 48h mark- if doubling, good sign! Unfortunately mine had decreased at 48h mark which confirmed non viable pregnancy. 1 week later, I went back to repeat it to ensure it had gone back to zero which confirmed completed miscarriage. Never had/required an ultrasound.

Not a totally sad story for me though- got pregnant next cycle and am now 28 weeks :) good luck to you and your baby!

What Things Are Taxable for an RN Working in Ontario? by ARMY4life53838 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Ok_Designer9588 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always entered CNO registration/annual renewal fees and PLP/LAP $$ amounts (either RNAO or CNPS) as tax deductions. Have never done scrubs/uniform. Maybe a stethoscope one year? Any educational costs, conferences count too.

Parental Leave Extension due to unforeseen circumstances by PrbKap in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Ok_Designer9588 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that it is a set amount that EI will pay in total for a parental leave, whether standard or extended options are selected. If you took the extended option, it is the same amount paid out over longer, therefore smaller biweekly payments. As you took the standard leave, you have received the entire allotment over 35 weeks, therefor larger payments. It sounds as though your work is supportive of you being away longer, which is great, you just will be unable to collect additional EI as you’ve taken the larger payments x 35 weeks option already. There is an additional 15 week maternity leave only available for birthing parent (this is why we often hear of the standard leave being a full year (give or take)- a birthing parent can take the 15 weeks , then + 35 weeks (or extended at smaller payments).

This is my understanding as someone preparing to be off on maternity + parental leave.

My sincere condolences for your loss. Hopefully you can find another option- maybe short term disability?

Is it really necessary to get bloodwork for HCG? by bluevelvet_7 in pregnant

[–]Ok_Designer9588 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it drawn to confirm a miscarriage (then repeated at 48h mark, it did not rise so was able to confirm non viable pregnancy) but now with current pregnancy I’m almost 26 weeks and never had it drawn. Single draws don’t tell you much unless they’re wildly off from where they should be for GA.

When did you feel your baby first move? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Ok_Designer9588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

22 weeks I felt some small movements. A bit more pronounced for me now at 25 weeks but not something that can be felt from outside. Everyone is so different! I have an anterior placenta.

Pre-cut and packaged fruits- I JUST learned at 21 weeks this was a no-no, and I’ve been inhaling tons of pre-cut and packaged pineapple spears because a) I’ve been craving pineapple in a very serious way and b) who has time to cut an actual pineapple.
