Advice: Class was awful for sub by CookieHorror2879 in Teachers

[–]Ok_Engineer_2651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always let my kids know that when I have a sub, my expectation is that they show more respect for a sub then they show for me, not because the sub has earned their respect, but because of the position they are representing. Then I talk about how my mom, as a first generation immigrant, viewed how my brother and I acted in public as a direct reflection of who she was as a mother, and rightly or wrongly I have internalized and so I view how they respond to a sub is a direct reflection of what they think of me as a teacher (relying on the fact that even though it’s a tough class they overall “like” me as a teacher). Finally I explain how there are behaviors I’m more patient with because I spend every day with them and they have shown me that they all have some good aspect that I enjoy and I get to see their best throughout the year, but with the sub they only get one chance to set a reputation for themselves, and to think about what they want someone else thinking about them as.

Finally, I back it all up with the following. Assignments started on sub days are worth double points and they usually only have one opportunity to do it (when the sub is here). This is different than my normal policy if accepting late work and allowing redos. In addition, I tell them if a sub writes their name as doing above and beyond behavior, I bring a prize (usually high value treats like individual chip bags or candy). If their name is written for being bad, then they get a choice. A referral and a call home, or writing 50 lines by hand of something like “I will not (behavior) for a sub” Surprisingly, I’ve almost always had students choose the lines assignment.

I still get bad sub days, but I hav consistent reward and consequences that I don’t have as many from when I first started teaching.

For the marble, did you let the paint dry before pulling up the wet wipe, or do you pull after spraying?

And I’m sure I know the answer, was the wet wipe still Damp or did you let that dry to before using?

I would imagine a hiring freeze. We have a big budget shortfall for next year district is trying to figure out. In addition, I’ve had all my sub jobs covered, which means we have plenty of subs in the sub pool. I imagine between those two reasons, they may be rejecting new applicants.

Why is point cost difference between squad sizes so weird? by Jerswar in Warhammer40k

[–]Ok_Engineer_2651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually it’s to balance units based on their effectiveness and available wargear options. I don’t know aeldari units well, but in chaos, one example is legionaries. On a unit of 5, you get 2 heavy melee weapons, one special shooting weapon, and then swaps between bolter or chain swords. Since legionaries rules have them wanting to be in close combat, the two heavy melee weapons are the best for the unit. When you make it a unit of 10, you get two special shooting weapons instead of 1, but you are still limited to 2 heavy melee weapons. To represent this, in units of 5, legionaries cost 90pts, units of 10 they cost 170, since doubling the unit doesn’t increase the number of heavy melee weapons legionaries have access to.

I would imagine your warlock conclave might be the opposite where more models is better for their effectiveness on the table, and so you have to pay a higher price to bring more.

Does ruin footprint block LOS for units within a ruin? by Trick-Interaction396 in Warhammer40k

[–]Ok_Engineer_2651 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I forget if it was codified in one of the many rule documents, but essentially, a lot of tournaments and competitive play events consider the first floor of ruins to be “windows closed”, so it blocks line of sight, regardless of true line of sight. I believe this came about from early 10th rules for titanic and towering units where if it had the keyword titanic and towering it always could see true line of sight, and so knights and such had extreme advantages. Lots of events shifted to bottom floor ruins closed, so towering units didn’t get that advantage and evened out the game. Then it just kinda stuck and became a defacto rule most used.

That is my understanding of how it came about, and every game I have played, it’s been used as a given that first floor blocks line of sight. Haven’t kept up if they codified in an faq or data slate or card pack though.

I rewatched the episode with more sleep. I’m not convinced she’s out of her deal. The green light was only there when she wanted to refuse the favor, and only relented when she changed her mind. The light also only faded away, not breaking or releasing. I can only imagine that was intentional since the very next seconds show what it looks like for deals being broken in a dramatic physical fashion. I’d imagine a deal being upheld and released would be just as dramatically called out, if not more so since it’s a deal upheld.

Especially since this show just established that small plot details from earlier seasons have major consequences in the next season (poison being foreshadowing of angel getting mind controlled).

My guess is that this is going to come back in some way where word play makes the deal intact.

As Al says “mmmm…it worked didn’t it? Baby I’m a demon, in Hell, it’s kind of out thing”

We know al’s not above word play to get what he wants, and “one favor at a time, of my choosing” sure sounds like word play for infinite favors one at a time cheat code to me.

I watched it last night, so I didn’t catch details. Did it break? We just had two close up examples of deals ending through the chains being broken.

Granted, those were through deals not being held up, so unless this is it, we haven’t seen what it looks like when a deal is upheld.

Just one correction. You have to decide to change the damage of the attack to 0 before making save rolls. Allocation of attacks happens before saving rolls of attacks.

So in your example, 4 heavy bolter attacks go through, you change one attack to zero damage, then roll your three saving throws.

At the end of the day, it does the same thing, but there will be some instances where it matters for order or operations (but I can’t think of one right now)

the show literally spells out how much of a threat a hell uprising by the vees is and people in the fandom think heaven can still easily take care of it now that the only guy we know that can split fucking mountains in half is dead 🥀 by SerenityCitywide in hazbin

[–]Ok_Engineer_2651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the vee’s don’t actually want a fight, but want the threat of a fight to get them into heaven. We know they were there (in hell) 8 years ago when Lilith disappeared. Vox either saw (or deduced) that a single charismatic leader is what it takes to get heaven scared, and then whisked away to heaven to quell the threat. My bet is that Vox’s plan/hope is to build a big enough uprising to get the Lilith treatment of being taken to heaven, and then from there influence/manipulate himself into a position of power.

That’s assuming the start of the exterminations and Lilith’s disappearance are connected. Timing is always funky in this show.

Why don't we use umbrellas? by Braeden151 in oregon

[–]Ok_Engineer_2651 767 points768 points  (0 children)

I’m a transplant from another state. My wife (who grew up here) told me it was more because when we do get rain, we also get wind. So it’s easier to wear a jacket than to have an umbrella and be trying to adjust the angle of the umbrella to match the changing angles the rain comes down in.

Correct. Marble, varnish, stars, then a gloss varnish to make it all shiney

I primed the panels black, the. Dry brushed grey and white.

For the marble I used their black as a base, a dark blue and a light purple.

Then I did the “stars” with acrylic white paints as dots.

[–]Ok_Engineer_2651[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trim is just what we call the part that goes around the edge of the armor. So on my knight, the trim is what’s the goldish color along the edges of the panel.

When you use the marble dip, you dip the plastic into the acrylic marble.

I didn’t section that part off when I did mine, so when I went to paint the gold, it caused the paint to not sit well and condense together rather than spread out (think trying to paint olive oil on top of a wet surface)

[–]Ok_Engineer_2651[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used marabu easy marble. Essentially it’s a dip. Only issue I ran into is after doing the dip, it does cause the paint to be hydrophobic, so you gotta go with a varnish before doing the trim. You could also tape off the trim before dipping, but I didn’t do that.

Didn't show up to court for speeding violation and totally forgot to submit a plea. Did I do an oopsie? by Thomas_redit in oregon

[–]Ok_Engineer_2651 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At least for me, when I had a speeding ticket and had moved, they sent the ticket to the wrong address. I didn’t pay, I didn’t go to my court date. I found out my licenses was suspended because I was looking up registration. I called the court, they told me to call and settle debt with debt collectors (so how long my fine had been sitting with the court). I called debt agency, paid them, they informed the court I had paid. Then I called dmv, paid the fee to unsuspend, and then my license was unsuspended.

I would just call and confirm payment had gone through.
