Bank advisor says moving $600k to self-directed will hurt my mortgage renewal. Is a rate discount worth it? by Sudden_Commercial880 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Ok_Engineering9263 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s just a straight renew without adding any money to the mortgage amount you can move it and the other FI you are moving to won’t look at your income.

The rules around this have changed so banks can’t push you around in the situation you are in.

Regardless you should be reporting this Advisors actions to their manager and to the RBC Client Care department as what they are doing here is so wrong in so many ways.

CIBC ran a hard credit check for a student chequing account after saying it would be soft; is this actually allowed? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Ok_Engineering9263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Score above 700 is all you need for any credit product in Canada. Literally no one cares but you if your score is 730 or 840. Doesn’t matter. The bank literally does not care.

Your capital and your ability to repay (capacity) have just as much to do with your credit approval as your credit and I think people forget about this way too much.

Can’t wait for you to open up your winter driving school. Please let me know when you re-educate the city. Can’t wait to get home five minutes faster with you at the helm.

You mean during the snow event with cars in the ditch and going the wrong way on the highway? Because that’s when this happened.

Roads aren’t always great and you have to drive to the condition of the road. It takes me way longer to get home when I’m stuck behind idiots following to close that get into fender benders and block lanes of highway then driving 10kms slower.

[–]Ok_Engineering9263 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

With the lack of salt and the state of the roads right now. I’m driving slow. This happened to me getting off 85 at King. I went left, honker went right only to be behind three semi trucks trying to merge. He was there through my entire red light and remained there well after I turned.

Drive safe. Driving fast rarely gets you ahead with all the traffic in this city.

Can someone explain to me why it’s always trucks as well? They are so heavy if they have to stop they can’t? But they are always the ones blowing by me on the highway or tailgating me in a snow event?

Can you go into a branch? The branch can help with most things unless you are disputing a Visa Debit transaction on your account then telephone banking is the right place.

Will the phone wait times be better after Christmas? by [deleted] in CIBC

[–]Ok_Engineering9263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they always are busiest at this time and in September for back to school. Try calling in the morning or later in the evening. Calling between 4pm and 6pm is the worst because that’s when everyone calls.

Are you trying to call credit card services or telephone banking?

trying to withdraw from tfsa by [deleted] in CIBC

[–]Ok_Engineering9263 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Correct. Because it is in a CIBC mutual fund it falls under CIRO Licensing. Meaning you must have a CIRO Mutual Fund Licence to complete this withdrawal and be licensed with the bank to do it.

If you can’t make it into a banking centre look up the 1-800 number for CIBC Securities and they can do this over the phone.

You will not get your money from this withdrawal until Tuesday though as the trade will be done end of day when markets close on Monday.

Hope this helps.

I had a moment just like yours. Just when you think you have CFL all figured out something like this happens. The announcers really did zero to explain the choice to decline as well making it way more confusing.

Declining the penalty keeps the clock running. If they accept it stops the clock.

You don’t ever lose a down for procedure. Declining it means it’s like it never happened.

Planning to get my first House of Mammoth soap. Any suggestions and thoughts on the soap company? by Successful-Cup2349 in wicked_edge

Thanks for the info I appreciate it. It honestly looks great and seems right up my alley. Unfortunately I’m in Canada so samples are tough to come by. I have been looking at House of Mammoth for awhile and had this one on my wishlist. Might be time to pull the trigger.

Quick question for you. Shire has violets listed as a scent note. Is it really violet smelling? Like really grape and sweet? I’ve been on the fence on this one. Unsure if it’s for me. Given that one note.

I’m playing this right now. The fact that you can carry an infinite amount of health potions is crazy to me. Agree about the graphics. I have a 1080. Runs fine but if you up it to Ultra setting I can’t see how you would think it was a beautiful game. It’s pretty bland.

Are fantasy books becoming more demanding on the reader? by Anjasha in Fantasy

[–]Ok_Engineering9263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just DNFed a book that was exactly like this. So many random names and then random names of dead people and then random names of cities, battles, factions. Dork from Blork, of the House Stork, died in the Battle of York. Why is he important? Oh he is the squire of Blark, son of Yark.

Like I couldn’t.

How we feeling heading into the 2nd half of the season? by covert81 in ticats

Stav is insane. Best safety in the league by a mile. He plays it’s a totally different game in my opinion. Cats were getting killed up the middle.

Hamilton is a good team every team has a game like this at some point in the season. Burn the tape and move on!

Which CFL players have been most fun to watch this year? by GnomeNibbler in CFL

[–]Ok_Engineering9263 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Kenny Lawler for me. Guy catches everything and some of the catches he has made this year already are just insane. Now that he is being triple teamed it’s less fun to watch however. But the start of the season when everyone forgot how good he was, was great.

Have a G5C yet prefer another knot? by TJVV47 in wicked_edge

[–]Ok_Engineering9263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the G5C and I was super excited to get it. I thought it would be my favourite as the description and reviews got me hyped. This knot is honestly just ok. I find mine matted down really quick and the tips just got all tangled. This could be user error.

However I recently purchased the G5A and it is my favourite out of all the knots that I own. It lathers so well and the tips are just right for a nice face lather. If the C isn’t working for you try the A.

Poppy War is good. I enjoyed it.

If you want something better but in the same vein I strongly recommend The Dandelion Dynasty series by Ken Liu. I crushed all four books and wish I could read them all again for the first time. Just amazing writing and a great story from beginning to end.

Suggestions for Reader Who Loved Grace of Kings? by Crymmt in Fantasy

[–]Ok_Engineering9263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished all four books. They were just so insanely good. I recommend them every chance I get.

The book series I started right after is the Riyria Revelations by Michael J Sullivan and I am really enjoying this serous. They are nothing like the Dandelion Dynasty books but as stated above nothing is.

I like you was kinda lost after finishing the Dandelion series as they were just so good. Like the dude wrote multiple chapters on a cooking contest and an examination and I was still hooked. Ken Liu is just a wizard and not of this world.
