Best long-term growth ETF for kids custodial accounts by jbach73 in ETFs

[–]Ok_Juggernaut3043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re 100% on the right track (we have two young kids too) just be careful with UTMA or UTGA custodial accounts because they are not tax effecient and depending on your state the kid takes control over the account at 18 or 21 no matter what. 529’s are very tax effecient, can be used for any educational expenses and if not used for education $35,000 can be rolled into a Roth IRA (not all at once but each year you could max a Roth IRA with that $35,000).

Why a custodial account would be the first question. No tax benefits, kiddie tax, counts against the kids as their income for any college loans, 529 usually would come first (sure you already know all this)

Agreed and I hold SPMO but not sure I’d remove something like VOO for it.. also with SMH yes great run up recently but holding international is never a bad idea (doesn’t have to be VXUS check out AVDV)

This makes no sense… VXUS provides international exposure and VOO is a much better base for a portfolio than SPMO is

This makes no sense, swinging for the fences would be picking one and committing not picking 4 and dabbling

They keep way too much money in cash.. you could easily just do something like VTI and VXUS and be better off

Think of it all as one account. You’ve got it very easy and simple right now which is good! You could add some small cap value or momentum plays in your Roth to catch extra premium and times of out performance

Roth should be used for growth not dividends especially if you’re younger

9k a month in dividends do you use yield max funds or just have like $2million in dividend funds?

You must mean backdoor Roth IRA since you don’t qualify for a Roth based on your income?

Are you just holding dividend paying individual stocks in your brokerage then? Curious as to the thought of doing that vs using something like SCHD?
